GREAT idea. looks awesome.

I want to build an iphone application but haven't had any luck with finding any dev info. Like accessing phone services, content dimensions (within safari).
Anyone find any info on that?

Any info is appreciated

Great work!

PS. I dispise carriers. They get everyone by the balls.

They DIDN'T

does anyone have an idea why Apple would want to leave this service off their phone?

The "missing" icon in the iPhone commercials is really iChat. However, Apple doesn't want people to know this until the 29th because of the speculation and criticism that would accompany an official announcement of the app. without giving away this feature. That way the competition could not get a head start on the within screen camera if it's not preannounced.

For example, people will (and have already on this thread and elsewhere) request the camera be available on the same side as the screen for video iChat sessions.

In reality, this is planned. I expect that it will actually be present in this first version, but it is HIDDEN. Remember the patent Apple applied for?

You heard it from me first :) (I've actually posted this on macrumors previously a while ago).

This WILL be the killer app on the iPhone, although it will likely only work well on 802.11 networks first due to bandwidth concerns. This will be the feature that sells millions of these phones.

This is nothing new.

Uh, web based clients to various IM services (AIM included) have been around for years. Who cares? this is nothing new

Now if iChat for the iPhone worked like the full client (inluding video conferencing!) that would be newsworthy.

bwahahahahaaaaaa...HAHAHAHAHAHAHA....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA *coff,pant* HAHAHAHAhAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHA

*whew*

You mean $500-600?

wow thats pretty cool. but what are the chances of it being in the iphone.. seriously it would cost a lot more to implement it in that tiny thing...maybe ?? i donno im not that smart

If they are really planning to sell 10,000,000 of these things, perhaps the cost could be as low as $50-100 for the telescreen? I don't know, but it might even better justify the high price for the phone.

YES! if this was included in it i would most certainly buy it (even tho i was gonna get it anyway). i wonder if it could also be wirelessly streamed (the camera) to your computer so to have a different perspective other than the camera that is right infront on the mb/mbp.

Imagine the family connection...

I'm just imagining the commercials that Apple and AT&T could come up with that show the "family" connection one could have. Many people don't have or travel with their laptops, but being able to videoconference FOR FREE (with 802.11 at least) would be awesome for anyone who travels.

I would be lying if I didn't say video iChat would be neat, but seriously it is also sort of gimmicky. To me, the beauty of IM is that I can be doing other things while chatting. Voice and video force me to direct much more of my attention to the person I am talking with.

hell yes!!! that would be so incredibly amazing. there are so many free wireless networks these days around the place. so family members could have a quick video conference with them while having a coffee or something.

Then Apple would need to provide those cheap cardboard/plastic glasses with 1 red lens and 1 green lens.:D

Seriously, if this phone could do all things that were demoed in the keynote by sj/phill/gw & ballmer it would sell billions...

not only would you have the Internet in your pocket... but all your friends would be there too (a scary thought, actually).

i wish apple would just release an iphone store through itunes that allows users to download real apps.... apple would test it and then it would allow a user to install it on their iphone...

hey guys. i dropped the source files on my server and i keep getting

"Forbidden - You don't have permission to access /im/ on this server"

I know this is probably kids stuff for a lot of you but how do i change this?

...
it looks like there are simple ways to configure this to allow more time.

cameras on the wrong side buddy :(

There's "substantial evidence" to suggest there's a camera hidden inside the "home" button - the square is the exact same shape and size as the border on the new cameras built into macbook screens...

Oh boy...

...here we go again...

...getting all worked up about the gap in the icons and the million different things that might be there.

...and then when they're not we'll be all ticked off with Apple for failing to meet out wildest dreams...

...you know, a bit like this years WWDC. It wasn't as great a keynote as previous events, but it wasn't as bad as people said, and Leopard is shaping up nicely.

...the iPhone will be cool too. Will it make all our dreams come true, I doubt it. :)

Sometimes the missing icon isn't missing at all. It's just that there's nothing there. :)

be well

b-b-but, wh-wha-what
will sustain us 'til the next stevenote?

Oh, maybe they'll offer a leather case....

Ya know... you are really on to something here... Apple/ATT could market the hell out of "enabling connections/capabilities" rather than "selling services"... ...done right, it could revolutionize multiple industries.

Or, maybe I just suffer brain freeze from spending 2 Februarys in Marshfield (Figi's) as a consultant for IBM.
