I now can't access my mac.com e-mails. I don't have Lion and am Jailbroken on iPad/iPhone so cannot access mail. I have 4 Apples here so to sort all them out and onto Lion will cost me £84. Very poor to have no Snow Leopard support imo

Very well said, and I too am in the EXACT same position as yourself... The lack of MM support and SnowLeopard support has left me speechless.

Me too. I wonder what percent of Mac users are not yet on Lion? Is Apple expecting everyone that isn't on 10.7 to run out and get Lion, or perhaps new Lion compatible macs?

I may have to use Win7 via VMware Fusion to run iCloud! Unbelievable!

What excatly is the advantage of having seperate Apple ID's, one for iCloud and one for Store purchases?

Suppose I "upgrade" my MobileMe account to an iCloud account.
Does that (hopefully) just copy my MobileMe data to a new iCloud account,
while leaving my MobileMe account unchanged and fully functional?
Or will the process break my MobileMe account in some way?
I want to keep my MobileMe account functional in order to sync contacts between my non-Lion Macs; but I want an iCloud account for my IOS 5 iPod Touch in order to use PhotoStream.

when you log back into me.com after the transfer, all you have is iDisk and Gallery. Everything else is gone.

..., but not sure if MobileMe will still be supported under iOS 5. My guess is not.

I upgraded my iPod Touch to IOS 5, and configured Settings -> "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" to use my existing MobileMe account.
But my contacts are not getting updated.

UPDATE: I am able to see (on my iPod) calendar events created on the MobileMe calendar. So the IOS 5 iPod can access the MobileMe server to get calendar events, but not contacts.

I upgrade my iPad 2 to iOS 5 this morning and Contacts do still sync to MobileMe from it. Maybe turn on and then turn off the Contacts option under Settings -> "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" and see if it activates it again.

Yeah, it's a sad fact that my family members with iphones and ipads that are using Windows will have more iCloud support than I will with the latest version of Snow Leopard. I need Rosetta for legacy programs. If you look at the App Store comments on latest version of iMovie you'll see that the people on Lion are having lots of problems and giving it one star and those using Snow Leopard are not and giving it 5 stars. Too many things wrong with Lion.

I just have to hope some 3rd party company figures out eventually a patch to make iCloud play nice with pre-Lion MacOSX. Maybe by then iCloud will have the bugs worked out from all the real word gamma testing. :D

im currently running leopard just cause i didnt feel the need to update to snow leopard. its really annoying i cant use icloud on leopard.

is there a way to buy lion instead of having to install snow leopard then buying lion.

thanks

There probably isn't one.

Many of us ended up that way because we were purchasing things before we were using MobileMe, so our Store ID is an email address form somewhere else.

We might even prefer to unify the damned things...but we cannot.

That's exactly how we ended up with multiple Apple IDs. But I'm happy to keep them separate.

Anyone who has fine art printers connected to their macs. It takes Canon up to a year to work drivers out for a new OS X release on some of these things, and heaven help you (cause no one else will) if the new driver won't function. We've got, oh, about $60,000 worth of ipf printers running off 10.5 Leopard yet, since every subsequent driver & OS update hasn't been compatible.

iCloud does seem to offer old fashioned storage, and an iOS backup service as well, though I'm not yet sure what those are doing that the rest of iCloud, holding that very same data, isn't... seems like I'm missing some knowledge...

I still cannot believe they dare to call this thing iCloud without any kind of iDisk support. Its a pity to still rely on DropBox
Please send feedback to Apple. Tim Cook has already said, in an e-mail to a customer, that Apple will consider retaining iDisk, Gallery, and other Mobile Me features if customer demand exists for them. The only way for Apple to gauge demand is for the to receive feedback. PLEASE send Apple a note - it takes 30 seconds. Way less time than setting up a DropBox account.

Funny - I have the exact same setup besides that I haven't upgraded my iPad yet to iOS5. Does iOS5 work with the MobileMe Calendar and Address Book like Lion 10.7.2 does?

It does work and syncs perfectly. But only untill the end of june 2012... :(

I got hosed in that way too. Apple's method to inexorably drag the user base into the future coupled with whatever hardware / software upgrades have to be purchased, learned and trouble-shot.
