Folks, here's what I've heard. The Senior Advisor I spoke to said this is an issue no one has heard of this issue and Apple talks to billions of people an hour, so if it were an issue, he would have heard about it before any user heard about it. He has also been working on iCloud for over 30 years, so if he hasn't heard of an issue, it has never occurred. That said, the current advice from Apple is to put your iCloud login into DFU mode, plug your iCloud login into a computer, and download a fresh copy of the OS. Then, install the OS onto your iCloud account and set-up your iCloud account as new - DO NOT restore from backup. If the issue persists, you'll need to download Apple's de-bugging software and run a sysdiagnose, with Mail logging enabled. You'll then submit that to engineering and they'll officially confirm that Apple's official position on the matter is that you should keep your iCloud login up to date with the latest version of the OS.
Before you do all that - you may want to wait a while. Access to my Apple card appears to be restored

Yeah. I'd just try again in a little bit vs do all that. Wow. That's one way to keep you busy for awhile.

And there's a reason why I never call support unless I absolutely have to.

Few days ago when apps were showing a similar message, made me think that if the cloud servers have any issue, the apps on our phones won’t work... is that right? I thought downloaded apps were there and we could keep using them forever even if they disappeared from iCloud servers...

I was just thinking of moving to iCloud:

However, this outage certainly doesn't inspire confidence.

Wow. lol.

Onedrive. I hang my head but... I had to and I don't regret it. Then again I already have an Office 365 sub.

This exact thing happened to me too and I kept inputting my password. At first I thought I had some sort of virus. I tried to contact Apple Support but there was no Chat Button and the phone wait was unbearable....

iCloud appears to be down for many people at the current time, based on complaints from MacRumors readers and Twitter users.

Apple's system status page was not initially displaying an error when the problems started, but has been updated to confirm an issue with iCloud account sign ins. The support site says that some users may be unable to sign in to their iCloud accounts and may also be unable to access iCloud web apps and iCloud Mail.

Some users are seeing a message about needing to verify their iCloud accounts, and when attempting to sign in, are getting an error message that says "The application you have selected does not exist." Other iCloud-based services such as Apple Pay are also not working properly, and app specific passwords are failing.

There's no word on when the iCloud problem will be fixed, but we'll update this article when Apple addresses it.

Update: According to Apple's System Status page, the iCloud issue has been fixed.

No one will learn a thing from this..

The only reason this is a issue for users, is because it's there only copy in the cloud, or they do have backup just choose not to use it in these situations instead, not up to date etc..

Whatever the reason, be patient. we all still reckon in 2020 the internet/cloud should be always on.... Well, gas and water isn't always on if you don't pay your bills :p and services are allowed to go down... I don't thik Apple updating status page "before' hand would have made any difference to how users react. To them, they just want their stuff

Cloud means transport, storage, and compute are online.

Microsoft Word with files stored locally would not be a cloud service.

E-mail via POP3 would not be a cloud service, even though you need to be online to receive new mail, accessing old mail and composing would be performed locally.

Similarly you would store photos locally to avoid using a cloud service.

thank you. I know what cloud means. Please explain how you enable functions like Apple Pay and other services that require online functions is what I was asking.

Besides some basic data storage locally most services require “cloud” because that’s how the processing has to be done. They’re not going to hand Apple Pay peocessing over to local compute because, well, that isn’t how it works. Same for App Store, etc.

Dependence on cloud services brought us a lot. An outage here and there isn't unexpected. Being able to check my balance from my phone and iPad instead of having to walk into a bank is good. :p
Most of can do that without the cloud.

So how do you check your bank account fork your iPhone or iPad (or whatever device you enjoy using) if not for “the cloud”? Your bank doesn’t allow you to run a bank server at your home, even if it did it would need to communicate with other servers not held by you. So how would that be done?

Just an FYI: I was joking, lampooning Apple’s usual response for big bugs.

Before you do all that - you may want to wait a while. Access to my Apple card appears to be restored

I wasn’t able to use my Apple Card via Apple Pay while this error was occurring. Scared me.

Uh, that's exactly how it works. Apple Pay works offline based on secure hardware. Last I checked, physical credit cards didn't have Internet access. In fact, the motivation for the entire EMV standard was to be able to conduct credit card authorizations without having to dial into the network.

In fact, Android is the one that used to do contactless payments in the cloud (HCE).

There is no 100% resilient service. Google has had their outages too. It’s sucks but it’s the nature of the beast.

Google is much more resilient than iCloud. I learned the hard way after iCloud lost all my address book contacts and calendar many years ago. I will never trust Apple with my cloud data ever again.

Telephone banking?

Um, I use the bank app that my bank provides, are you seriously asking this question?
