That is a shame if that is true as it was how it was presented really. Albeit not categorically described in that way, comparing it to dropbox did give that impression.Hopefully it is something in the pipeline for a future update.

I was under the impression that iCloud drive would work like dropbox. and the iCloud drive page on apple.com gives that impression from the photos too.
No. It will never work like DropBox. You are too stupid to manage your files (Apple's philosophy).

That image of yours is a "Document Picker" that presents itself when opening documents from within each App. (And those Apps need to be developed to support the document picker)

I too am on Yosemite, iOS 8 and have icloud drive enabled on all my devices but the document picker doesn't come up when I open an iWork app like Pages, which I also just updated. So annoying. Still trying to figure this one out...

Yes, my issue precisely. And ironically, I just got an iCloud update on my Windows 8.1 machine, and iCloud Drive is running flawlessly there

The document picker hasn't been enabled for Pages or Numbers. As far as I know, the only apps that have document picker enabled are Dropbox and iMovie.

Can you let me know how to access the document picker in Dropbox? I don't see an option anywhere. Thanks.

i'm furious, i had some notes w/photos i was saving, lost a few, called apple took 2 mins, assured me pages was best place to store, so i did and now i can not access them as i don't have Yosemite

i have back up on TM so i could do something i suppose

i thought notes in maverick were cool with photos

I was able to get it working here ... noticed that after using pages on my iOS device and turned on and off the iCloud settings on settings / pages ...

It made a folder on the iCloud drive. Put documents there and ... there they were.

Still not working for me. I'm waiting for iOS 8.0.1 to do a restore.

Does anyone also experience the issue of everything saying "Encrypted File" or "Encrypted Folder" in Settings>Manage Storage?

Yes, I had the same issue and just resolved it. iCloud syncing was working between my iMac and iPad, but not iPhone.

I disabled the encryption on my iPhone's iTunes backup, and disabled iCloud and then rebooted the device, then reenabled iCloud. At first it still said "encrypted" on everything, but then after about 10 minutes it changed and started working again.

Hope this helps.

the app should be coming out. They wouldn't show something that isn't coming out.

ITT people who don't understand how iCloud Drive works.
No. Apple designers who are so "sand box happy" they don't understand how a Cloud Drive "should" work.

And that app referenced above? Try to use it to open a document already in iCloud Drive. It will create a duplicate file in the apps container and won't let you open the original.

That's not correct. The document picker is there - access it by clicking the + icon and then selecting iCloud.

My problem (in the other thread) is that the iWork apps are no longer properly synching their own iCloud Drive folders.

I just used an app called Documents by Readdle and opened a text file in my Preview folder. Edited it and exited out. Opened iCloud drive on my mac and opened up the same text file that was edited in the preview folder and the changes were there. It did NOT copy it to the Documents by Readdle iCloud Drive folder.

I have that app as well. Try it with a Pages or Numbers file. It will make a duplicate file in the Pages/Numbers app - right next to the original.

Why would I use another app to open a Pages file? If its a Pages file I would just use Pages.

Maybe it makes another file because the app cannot support the Pages file format? Like opening an office 2003 file in office 2007 and saving it in office 2007 format, it will make a new file.

What if the file wasn't for Pages, but a photo. Then how the fsck do you get to it? I don't understand iCloud drive in iOS!??!

Do you do that with iCloud Drive for the Mac? I don't... I just launch the file and it finds Pages all by itself.

I was basically hoping that Readdle's Documents app for iOS would do something similar. So much for that. iCloud Drive for iOS is asinine. A Dropbox killer. LOL!
