Don't waste your breath with facts. Have you forgotten you're on MacRumors. The hate capital of the world for anything Apple. When positive news is posted here Apple gets trashed. So this iCloud issue is only dedicated to Apple as if Google never has problems like that earlier posted naively stated.
Yeah. I deem Apple's web services as very reliable ! Even now I have no problems

Cloud Services are for the dumbest sheeps in the IT Biz. Their pricing is so intransparent that you need services that optimize costs and utilizations. Only the dumbest Managers accept storing / computing anything on the "Cloud".

There is no cloud. There is just somebody else's computer.
What?? This is the first I've heard this! I always thought that iCloud was really in the sky looking down upon us. 🙄

Ring security cameras/systems also has a major outage today too, roughly the same time. Hopefully, just a coincidence?

My time machine backups also mail content

I don't understand what the problem is on your end?! I am on BigSur. My backup is from the Mac OS X Leopard era and it runs up to this date on Big Sur.
Once upon a time you could open mail or contacts and recover deleted emails back in time WITHIN that app. The ability to recover an accidentally deleted or lost email has saved me many times. Same with contacts.

since Catalina you cannot do that. The only resolution Apple offers is fully restoring an entire mail or contacts back up which negates the ability to recover emails and contacts individually. Instead you are restoring an entire back up from only one point in time.

it’s tantamount to restoring an entire back up of your hard drive to recover one file in finder.

Why does Apple have these kinds of issues yet Google’s services don’t?
Apple uses Google?

For me I think its time Apple used its own servers, and increased the minimum 5GB to 10Gb. If Apple is serious about privacy, then it should not be outsourcing that privacy to Google.

I restored every new Mac from my TM Backup since Leopard. Never had a problem. Started there, where I left it last time. A complete transparent solution.

I remember 2 times, where it said something along the lines "something does not fit, and it needs to create a new backup". TimeMachine is a Delta backup. So if something happens that destroys integrity I fully understand, they need to create a complete fresh one.

But TimeMachine is a free software, that is built into MacOS. On Windows you have to rely on 3rd parties. I doubt, that the user experience is a LOT better there.
And how do you know you got a complete restore? You don't, because Apple's error reporting is not-so-much.

Meanwhile, Apple wants to push backups to the cloud which is one of the many reasons Time Machine was stripped of the ability to recover lost emails and contacts, etc within core apps (no, Catalina’s separate volumes is not the cause, I’ve been working with Apple engineers on this issue since day 1 and it seems Apple has wanted to push time machine features to the cloud but backed off as users and developers complained). One of the other reasons Apple left the networking market and Time Capsule’s - it seems Apple wants to push backups into their cloud services as iCloud storage increases and Apple focuses on services.

I don’t understand why Apple couldn’t leave Time Machine alone and simply add the ability for cloud backups in addition to local. One or the other doesn’t make sense.

I was working with a Senior Specialist who was working with a Liason who was working with Engineering… on a Time Machine issue all summer, and I finally stopped responding to their emails and phone calls because everything got lost in translation, and it was a complete waste of time (pardon the pun). I really wish Apple still prioritized Time Machine and wireless routers. Godspeed.

Well, iCloud backup on Windows is...it just doesn't work. We have iPhones and pay for iCloud for photo storage. Anyway, I wanted to upload some audio files for an audiobook app for iPhone and the files simply do not synch. 2 days later and nothing uploaded.

And how do I know if Apple Numbers is calculating the rows correctly? At some point I have to trust a software. At least in the past, the TM Backups worked for me.
