just checked - in my family members beta.icloud pages, they can finally access the domain settings without error
Epic! I can confirm I’ve created my wife’s email and she is a family member!! Finally this works 😜💪🏽🤛🏽

Ok, does anybody know the correct dns settings for setting up a domain registered with Google domains? I copied the settings Apple suggested but the MX records are not formatted correctly.

Well I was able to get an email created on my test domain for my wife. Problem is when I go back to beta.icloud.com I'm not getting an error and can't even log in. Hopefully it will work later.

Apple obviously changed something - all family members are pre-filled in the domain setup, and for wife and son already confirmed. And they receive & send in/from their iCloud mailboxes

I, myself, still end up in hop errors ... weird
I've been thinking about this. The bounce error message is really weird because it is coming from mx01.mail.icloud.com.

<owner@[example].com>: host mx01.mail.icloud.com[17.56.9.17] said: 554 5.4.0
Error: too many hops (in reply to end of DATA command)

That means the message is rejected after it is resolved to the iCloud mail servers? So it looks like it is a misconfiguration on Apple's servers.

I removed the existing domain and waited about 2 hours to try to add it back again but now I just get an error that says, "There was a problem adding this domain. Try again later."

Checking with dig, all of the mail domain settings have been reverted to the registrars mail forwarding. Beta ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Same here, just tried to test the process again.
"They're" working on it heavily at the moment I assume ...

I just tried a couple of more of my domains and they all report the same. So I think you are right. The domain setup is just down right now.

Playing around now quiet some time with the e-mail domain apple is offering - I might have a silly question:
In simple words - what is the benefit letting apple forward these email addresses to my iCloud mailbox when I can define mail forwarding on the email address itself, giving the same results ? Better security ?

Mine is coming from mx02

Was I too late? Finally wanted to add the address for my wife and while the window loads now after trying to add an address it just gives me "There was a problem adding this email address. Try again later."

Edit: Seems like another problem. I had "wifesname@domain.tld" set up on my own iCloud over the weekend. I removed it from my account, but when trying to add it to my wife's account, the error comes up. Other addresses work, but not the one she actually needs.

I’m having a hell of time entering the supplied CNAME info in Namesilo. Anyone have any insight?

Apple gives me this:

CNAME: Host=sig1._domainkey
Value=sig1.dkim.example.com.at.icloudmailadmin.com.

But Namesilo won’t accept in this field:

Gave it another go with a different provider and url I own, still can't get it to work and no idea why not.
Feel this is a pretty poorly implemented "feature" if its this much of a challenge (I'm no expert but I'd like to think not a complete idiot).
Very frustrating and disappointing.

If someone on my family plan wants to add a domain, do I need to add the custom domain so it shows up for them in beta.iCloud.com? Or can they add the domain directly themselves?

For me it's two things: removing unnecessary dependency on an email host/forwarder, and more importantly recipients of my emails seeing them sent from my domain, rather than an iCloud email address.
