That's why all of this requires custom TXT records, MX records, DKIM record and SPF record on the public domain registrar. Only the owner of the domain is able to edit and add such records. So no, unless you actually own the domain and have access to edit these DNS records you won't be able to utilise that domain.
Thanks for the info! Didn’t quite understand what this was

That was it!! Thanks. There was no indication in the CLoudFlare DNS settings that this was more than just an icon. :)

Cloudflare DNS is a great option for DNS. Free for personal use and some of the best in the business. Their default proxy option is great for most things. It gives your DNS records a Cloudflare Proxy IP instead of the real-IP so you don't have to expose your real IP addresses, all traffic will also have to pass Cloudflare's servers for added privacy and security.

But such features won't do for records like these where you are simply telling that your e-mail lives on Apple servers (MX records), you have to verify that you own this domain (apple-domain=*** key), dkim and spf for e-mail verification and security.

So far can't get past "There was a problem loading your domains. Try again later." on the iCloud beta page. Haven't even entered one yet.

I am trying to move off Google. My registrar is Hover. I updated my DNS as below. Is there a replication period I need to wait out as my test emails are still going to Google. Also, Hover added one CNAME. Do I need to delete?

For anyone who knows better than me, do these records look correct?

The quote marks on the TXT entries aren’t actually in the field when you paste them across.

According to iCloud, it’s all setup. I skipped the verification process because it didn’t work.

However, no email is being received to the new domain address (though it’s not bouncing either). Is it just a case of waiting for the DNS to update?

Also expecting to be able to send email from the new address but that hasn’t shown up either. I did see a pop-up to use it with FaceTime though.

It will take some time for DNS servers to update their caches. Your time-to-live is 15 minutes, not sure what you had on your Google records? You will have to wait at least 15 minutes.

Looks to be correct. Depending on the TTL (Time-To-Live) on your old records it might take anything from 15 minutes to several hours for the new records to take effect. You can verify using sites like https://mxtoolbox.com/ to see what your current MX records are.

Because I've set it up and tested it

I was just wondering how you are testing it? I have it running myself. But there are no way to see any detailed e-mail information on beta.icloud.com/mail. Have you configured it using a third-party mail application where you can view detailed information?

Would someone who uses Google Domains be kind enough to post a screenshot of their DNS settings?

My outgoing mail works, but incoming mail fails. And I can't for the life of me figure out what I entered wrong. 😩

Thanks for this.

It looks like my Google TTL was 60 min.

Thanks.

The moment you replied, it started working. Receiving, anyway.

Should I be able to send mail from the new address too? Is that just a case of me waiting for things to update as well?

I've got the MX and DNS options changed, and email is now flowing to icloud. How do I setup to send email with my custom address on my mac and iPad? It still only give me the option to use my icloud and mac.com addresses?

I already use a custom email address as my Apple ID. For example, myname@exampledomain.com. The email for example domain.com is currently delivered to a Premium Outlook.com setup. Has anyone set up iCloud+ email for an email address currently used as an AppleID?

So far this option seems to be lacking. Not sure if there some delay going on. I will give it 24 hours, if there is still no way for me to set it as outgoing address then I'll go back to Microsoft 365 until Apple gets this sorted.

I have just managed to set it up. I am using NO IP. The domain I'm using and my email address is also my Apple ID so I'm happy. I wonder how reliable it's all going to be during the Beta though? I don't want to lose any emails.

I have. My Apple ID was name@mydomain.com, @mydomain.com is hosted at Microsoft / Office 365. Was able to move it over to iCloud+ without any issues.

Have folks had any luck with email addresses that end in top-level domains that are more than three letters (like @domainname.email)? I tried adding one and the system said it was an invalid email address. I also tried adding the email address as an additional address for my Apple ID and it said the same thing.

I made all of the DNS updates and followed the beta setup instructions that had the verification buttons. When I got to the end it said complete. There were no other instructions. I sent an email to the me@mydomain.com that I had configured and it was successfully forwarded and deposited into my iCloud email account myname@icloud.com. Unless there are other instructions for spoofing the send from account I don't see how you can send something from this new email address. I replied to the email that I sent myself and the send from address is my myname@icloud.com address.

I’m using a .band TLD without issue :)

Yes, I've done just that. I had been paying for email forwarding from NOIP to my Outlook.com email address. Looks like I can now cancel the NOIP email forwarding service because my emails will now be delivered direct to iCloud.
