Hmmm... I think this is something else

Doesn't it seem more likely that this is an iphone remote control for AppleTV and possibly Airtunes?

The iPhone has a powerful OS and is a total WiFi and Bluetooth enabled device, it could've been doing a lot more than Apple has offered right now.
As Front Row can connect to multiple iTunes Library via Network, so could the iPhone, and as Apple TV can stream content from multiple Libraries, so could the iPhone. As the Apple Remote can control any Apple TV or Mac, so could the iPhone. As the Apple TV and Front Row have an optimized app for streaming movie trailers, so could the iPhone.
I mean, there is so much to think of. Apple, you can make this.

...believe it or not vista is an amazing os that I use every day; no fanboi allowed Windows is what it is for a reason. [/U].

Desperate Microsoft to count Windows XP sales as Vista sales
Sunday, April 27, 2008 - 01:34 PM EDT
"InfoWorld confirms that Dell will sell and support Windows XP to consumers beyond the June 30 Microsoft sales cutoff date that Microsoft reaffirmed today, after comments from CEO Steve Ballmer yesterday seemingly indicated it might reconsider that decision," Ephraim Schwartz reports for InfoWorld.

"Dell will take advantage of a licensing option in Vista Business and Vista Ultimate that lets PC makers provide XP under the Vista license, which Microsoft calls a 'downgrade' license. (Enterprises with site licenses have these same rights with any version of Vista.) In essence, the user is buying a Vista license that it can apply to XP, and Microsoft can still claim a Vista sale," Schwartz reports.

"The computers available with the XP option will include the Windows Vista installation DVD in the box so users can later install Vista over XP under the same license if they wish," Schwartz reports.

Full article here.

MacDailyNews Take: So, Dell sells with PCs with Windows XP, throws the unwanted Vista DVD in the box, and Microsoft pretends they're Vista sales? Now that's desperation. And, another thing: the ancient Windows XP sucks, too. That it's the best Dell and all of the other PC box assemblers can offer is just pitiful. Get a Mac.

Hi, thanks for popping into our discussion to complain about it.

May I suggest that YOU take note of the frigging thread title! Here, let me cut-n-paste it for you:

iControl iTunes Player for iPhone?

I don't see "let's argue about MS vs Apple until the cows come home" anywhere in the thread title.

You guys REALLY need to get outside and get some fresh air or something.....jeeZUS!!

That's fine, but it sounds like you still need a computer to be on. They should enable the iPhone to steam via AirTunes directly from the iPhone's music library.

That or some ability to stream a music from my NAS. :)

iControl meets Interactive Programming Guide?

I keep thinking that there are all sorts of value added ways that you could combine remote control and interactive programming guide in the iPhone/iPod touch environment.

Specifically, (from my post), 'iPod touch: the first mainstream Wi-Fi mobile platform?':

About 15 years ago, Interactive Network was service that allowed you to participate in an interactive fashion with TV game shows and sporting events. Unfortunately, it was pretty limited and required that a special hardware box with a dedicated phone line be connected to your TV. Plus, no one knew what the hell interactivity meant since the Web was still pretty nascent, so it failed. But with an iPod touch, an interactive TV programming guide application becomes possible that allows you to systematically interact with your favorite TV programs (think: sports, game shows, finance, reality TV, etc.) and connect with others who are watching the same program - in real time.

In any event, it seems beyond the universal remote goodness that there are applications for such content-aligned services (listen to the same music show with virtual friends, watch DVDs and apend them with smart/social bookmarks that others can pull up when they watch the same movie, be virtual DJ for an audience of like minds, etc.).

They're a separate company and always have been. I don't think MS are whiter than white because they most certainly aren't -they're duplicitous and nasty but then they're also successful. Sure, they weren't nice to Apple but then Apple weren't very nice to Xerox, were they?

Apple had permission from Xerox's visionless board to do and use what they did. Microsoft just blatantly stole from Apple. There is a HUGE difference.

Remote Buddy

Remote Buddy is a web app so its not quite the same. Does have good features though.

Remote Buddy is a web app indeed, however, streaming from iTunes will require an internet-connection anyway, so I don't think this will be a lot different? The only difference will be that the interface is 'installed' on the iPhone/iPod?

I am actually struggling to work out what this app is giving me access to do. Personally I owuld love to synch wirelessly rather than USB for a start. Then I would love to access my mac and control that from the device - but I don't see that yet - I would then need to hook up my LCD TV to the mac and we would be really motoring :)

I don't understand this comment though.

I'm certain that that discussion has been played out over and over in board rooms world wide as Apple morphs the product in ways unanticipated. For starters, who'd have guessed Apple could and would address every shortfall of the iPhone for enterprise use essentially within the first year of releasing the first iPhone?

I am currently carrying a phone and a blackberry for work. We should be negotiating contracts soon that mean I will just have the BB. In terms of enterprise solution is there anything in the iPhone suite that can replace my BB?

The enterprise/corporate e-mail server issue will be addressed on June 10 at WWDC 2008.

Thanks for that - very interesting then - obviously no "legal" iPhones here in Oz yet so still a while before we get our hands on them - and time enough then to replace the BB :D
