ifoAppleStore reports that Apple is planning to open its first retail store in the state of Idaho, which will become the 42nd state in the U.S. with an Apple retail presence. Apple's first Idaho store is reportedly set to open in Boise as early as September.
Far out and left out. That's the way Idaho residents have felt for nine years without an Apple retail store. Now their laments will end with confirmation of a future store at the Boise Town Square shopping mall along Interstate 184, west of downtown Boise. It will be the first store in Idaho, whose residents have had to drive to one of the other 41 other states that have already received an Apple store.
The other eight states currently without at least one Apple retail store are Alaska, Arkansas, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

I am studying at Washington State University which is about 10 minutes from Moscow, ID and the University of Idaho which is an Apple reseller. They carry all the Apple products and even offer repairs so its not as though Idaho has been Apple-less for the past nine years and they're about to see the light. Granted their repair service is terrible and their sales people know absolutely nothing about the products they're selling.

Expercom in Logan Utah (just over the border) is a Mac reseller, and for years before Expercom was the one of the only Apple resellers around Salt Lake, for the exception of MacDocs, and (cough) CompUSA.

So although it's had 'connections' it's nice to hear Apple isn't ignoring them out there in good ol' Idaho.

*Now we have a SimplyMac in the SLC area... avoid at all costs it is a terrible experience... PC' guys thinking they know macs... travesty!

Finally!!!!

YES! YES! YES!

This is awesome news!

Hello Apple store, Goodbye MacLife!:p (Your in trouble now!)

Finally a real :apple:Store, Real Service and no attitude!

Boise's LONG OVERDUE for this!

Looking forward to September:)

I've lived in Little Rock, AR for the past 4 years. After moving from Long Island, NY, with 4 Apple Stores all to itself, it has been pathetic trying to find anything past the small niche in Best Buy. There are a few decent sized malls here that Apple should look into. Too late for me though...with any luck, by the middle of this year, I will be moving up to Massachusetts with a whole boat-load of Apple stores in the area!

Forget Boise! Let's put one up in Coeur d'Alene (/Spokane) in North Idaho :p we have nothing up here! The closest Apple store is Portland followed by Seattle...

If they offered to sell guns in the Apple store they probably would have gotten one earlier in Spokane/Coeur D'Alene (tongue in cheek)
Spo-tucky had an independent All Apple products retail store that failed a few years ago.. Don't know why.

No, it will now just be official Apple employees giving you crappy service and attitude.

Came here to post this. You beat me to it.

Over 800,000 people without an Apple store within 4 hours of driving.

I'll happily still take it any day over the absolutely pathetic service and attitude we get from our local bonehead mac dealer, Maclife.

Haven't seen one inside DC. Though there are a couple in nearby Maryland and Virginia area... :)

Hey neighbor! I live in Moscow, and didn't know until recently that the UI Bookstore offered repairs (Apple doesn't list them online or even have them in their system when calling AppleCare).

I haven't used them yet, but its nice to know there's something closer than 6 hours away.

Vermont & West Virginia is surprising. The other states not so surprising considering they are less populated than the other states in the US. Slowly but surely I guess!

They honor warranties for repair as well. Be careful though, we brought my wife's MBP in for a trackpad repair and they messed up the backlighting on her keyboard and wouldn't do anything about it claiming that it must not have worked when we brought it in. Frustrating. I had to disassemble it myself and reattach the cable.

I also called to reserve a copy of Snow Leopard and they said they had plenty and weren't taking reservations for it. I show up a couple hours later and the manager tells me they were out and I should have reserved a copy! haha.

I just expect poor service when I go in but to get products it works. I got my copy of iLife 08 for $40 because they lower prices when they can. So maybe it all balances out.

SWEETNESS! MacLife just opened a new 2nd location in BoDo. Gotta be expensive real estate. MacLife has always had outdated products at premium prices. They even temporarily lost their rights to carry iPods (unconfirmed rumor). I'm stoked to have an official apple store. More competition is always good for the consumer. Thank you Apple.

I also heard they had lost their rights to stock ipods. Competition is great, they will either have to get their act together or go out of business;). The :apple:store at Boise Towne Square is going to get a lot more business than Bodo or Overland Maclife locations hands down. The ninth level wizard that owns Maclife is not going to be to stoked when he here's his monopoly is over and Steve and Company are moving into town!

Going to be so much easier than having to go to either Salt Lake City or Portland for an Apple store!:)

The opening of that one store means that the entire state will now be charged tax for online purchases from Apple.
