I bet you'd buy a can of out of date tuna if it had an Apple logo on it.

Nope, just use Macs to make my living, it just works.
I have 5 macs and 6 ipod/iphone devices, that's why I'm on this site
and I don't go to other sites and bash other manufacturers stuff.
How about you?
Are you a troll or have you actually used an apple product and found it to be lacking?
If you do use other stuff, why are you here?
Hey i guess people have more free time than I do.

I own apple products. I own other branded products. I use the best product for the intended purpose. Common sense.

Don't hate the player...

Hmmm.....

Interesting.

Given that I'm a smartphone administrator for a Fortune 100 business it's amazing to me that we have hundreds of Blackberry, Goodlink (Treo primarily), iPhone and Android phones but only TWO Windows7 phones so far.

Interesting.

It's actually the opposite.
I say that the iPhone is the first real smart phone BECAUSE I have plenty of experience with the junk that was sold to us as "smart" prior to the iPhone.

It's almost embarrassing that people think this stuff. The first iPhone was junk compared to what Symbian offered at the time.

I've been reading this thread and a few things need to be said.
1. Most of these analyst firms are rolling dice. They know nothing. Here's a graph of what they said about Intel Itanium sales:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Itanium_Sales_Forecasts_edit.png

2. CUT in Finder. Might be nice, but I personally like spring loaded folders. They work just as well. Most new users don't know about this.

3. Quitting applications. I don't know why everyone expects that the "right" way to do it is to exit the program when all windows are closed. Probably just coming from a Windows background. I frequently have times when I am done with a task and want to close all documents related to it and create new ones using the same program. On windows, you have to relaunch OR close all but one window, open up a new window, and then close the other one. With some software, the launch can several seconds (or with an adobe product, maybe it's a few minutes).
If you want to quit the program, command-Q or Application menu -> Quit.

Mac OS X ISN'T WINDOWS! If you stop expecting it to be Windows, things will be better.

Of course it was. That's why Symbian has done so well since the iPhone launched.

Technical, I'd still say Symbian is a better OS at a kernel level. iOS has a better GUI.

Popularity != technical quality.

Symbian could multitask, run native apps, and copy and paste way back in its EPOC days - over 10 years ago! The original iOS couldn't do any of these in 2007. Hell, the iPhone still cannot transfer files using bluetooth. You have to physically plug your iOS device into your computer via a usb cable

Windows phone to top iPhone? Chu! I seriously doubt it! Hardly anyone buys anything that's made by Microsoft.:apple:

hey, if so few people buy anything made by Microsoft, why are they still the worlds largest software maker, still make xbox 360s and Kinects (the fastest-selling electronic device in history, which broke a record in the Guiness World Records btw), and happen to still be a larger company then Apple?

For those who doubt the Windows phone 7, I would like to point out no one expected the android to take off like a rocket ship so don't doubt it and just wait. **** HAPPENS. next week a meteor can fall on apples headquarters then boom Iphone is out.

If that is the case then Mac OS back in the '80s was also doing copy & paste.

The bluetooth file transfer might have been "excluded" by :apple: because it might "kill the battery". Anyway, if you want to share a file you can always email it, it is faster than pairing and all the crap related to Blutooth. Same thing with the pictures and videos captured with the mobile device.

Some Apps do wi-fi syncing for that matter.

What has Mac OS in the 80s got to do with iOS? Its a completely different OS. You can't compare EPOC and Symbian vs Mac OSX and Mac OS <= 9.

Think - Mac OS 9 -> Mac OSX was revolution. EPOC -> Symbian is evolution - actually a name change! But evolution is between EPOC and Symbian^3 today is a good description.

Bluetooth is low power.

Once you pair, its paired for good - I transfer between my Mac and phone - so always paired

Yes, you can email.. personally, I find BT for transferring files faster than having to email. iOS has no user accessible file system anyway, and if iOS doesn't recognize the file type you can't do anything with it. Unlike Symbian.

Some apps - but refer to my comment above regarding user accessible file system.

The downfall of Symbian was purely mismanagement, not for technical reasons.

Huh?

What can Nokia do with WP7 that hasn't already been done that will put them in 2nd place? I just don't get it.

Smartphones only have so many directions to go that will actually make a profit.

There have been some interesting new concepts (dual screens, sony's gaming phone, various keyboard sliders, WP7 speaker phone) but basic slab touchscreens without much going on are what people are buying, regardless of OS.

All phones will stay similar on the inside for the most part. One will be the "best" for a week and then another and so on. At some point batteries will have to greatly improve or other parts will have to slow down advancement.

I've never understood the whole Nokia hardware lovefest. Their "best" phones don't look any more amazing or radically different then what others are offering.

To me, I don't see how slapping Nokia's name on a WP7 phone and offering it in different colors besides black will take WP7 from the bottom to 2nd place or 3rd or 4th

Android has basically taken Symbian's spot and with cost cutting will be able to provide a good OS to people of all budgets around the world.

The market is still very young, but I've yet to see anything that would cause someone to jump from Android, iOS, WebOS, or BB to WP7. Unless you have to get those 10 achievement points on Fruit Ninja for your xbox profile...

Oh well, guess we'll see in a couple years :)

Yeah. I mean it missed all kinds of cool stuff like the ability to crash regularly, and a rendering engine so slow you could see it drawing. This stopped you from learning how geometry engines work. It also didn't constantly run out of memory and the iPhone also lacked a browser of the style which made you curse and swear. And cursing and swearing is good. It also made syncing easy with MobileMe, which is bad, of course, because you don't have to exercise your muscles with a cable all the time (and software that crashes). It was also missing all those dialogs and settings you needed to connect to WiFi. Writing text messages and reading the conversation is too easy with an iPhone, thus leading to higher costs because of many sent messages. It also made you waste time and enjoy life more by having a good music player. To top it all it interfered with spare time and stuff by having an emailer which you could actually use to read your email and, god forbid, respond to, without crashes and heaps of menus.

So yeah, let's just forget about that piece of junk they called the iPhone and all go back to the old Symbian days. Life was so much better then.

Hi I am a final year student and I am doing my dissertation on smartphone apps.

Would anyone want to complete a quick questionnaire below?

http://FreeOnlineSurveys.com/rendersurvey.asp?sid=n75eoaregq8qhzy896942

Many Thanks

Carol
I started to fill it out, however I am not under 30. Some feedback, you are using the term your app in many of the questions, a typical user has more than one app, so it is not clear to which app you are going to answer. It may help you get better answers if you rephrase the question or categorize the survey, or focus it on the area of interest.
