Is the only problem with light leak the fact that it is just annoying?

Or is it that you are afraid of moisture/dirt getting in through that spot?

Or maybe something totally different?

For me it's not only about potential moisture/dirt getting in but the fact that there's a defect in a [close to] $500 product. For that price I refuse to put up with anything short of flawless and seeing light shining out the sides in the dark is unacceptable.

Ok, so far we got this

O : Good condition, minimal light leak around volume buttons
O* : Clicking, lets call it Good condition, not sure if its hardware or software issue and not everyone complains about it or haven't noticed it
L : Major Light leak problems
X : Dead pixels, screen not glued properly

CC O O O O* O O O* L X L O O ----------->9O, 2L, 1X_____Population 12
C3 O O O* O O O X O O O L O O O O------>13O, 1X_______Population 14
1P X------------------------------------------>1X___________Population 1
SC X------------------------------------------>1X___________Population 1

Avoid 1P and SC :p

C3.

No light leakage. Clicking most of the time with WiFi on. Happens with both secured and unsecured networks. No clicking when connected to Optimum Online Wifi hotspot though.

For what it's worth, I don't think this serial number factory code has jack to do with anyone's issues. I think manufacturing variations happen in all the factories.

And I believe the clicking in video is there for everyone, even for those they say they don't have it. Maybe they haven't listened close enough, I don't know. But I have two new iPod touches, one 32GB and one 8GB and they both do it.

C3 and two light leaks. Haven't played with the other features yet.

Of course, it's going back; and will keep going back until no more light leaks.

I had clicking on the first one that I purchased from Apple online and returned it. I didn't have it on the second one that I purchased, but it had a loose screen and a mushy home button so it was returned. I tried very hard to find the clicking on the second one but was unable to hear it. The first one I had was very noticeable.

Interesting. That is my fear about an exchange, that I might end up worse off than before. My home button is fine and no light leakage.

I plan on buying my first ipod, the ipod touch, at my local Apple store. Do the new ipods have any battery charge so that I can check for "defects" (light leaks, etc.) before I leave the store?

Yup, they should have a charge on them. However you will need to connect it to iTunes on your computer before you can do anything with it. When you first boot it up, you get a screen that prompts you to connect it to iTunes. You won't be able to run any programs until you do so. You can check out the hardware (screen, buttons, etc), but you won't be able to do a full check until you plug it in.

I've personally had a couple iPods with problems, but please don't let this forum scare you. I'd say the majority of the people out there are not having problems. People that are having problems with their devices voice them here (me included). So I'd say purchase your new iPod without hesitation or anxiety. It is an awesome device that you will love.
