Product cycle is off....

It's still too soon to launch the iPhone tablet. If they are planning to use ARM chips and not Intel chips then it's just too soon. And they won't say anything until it's ready.

I'm expecting to hear about updates to the iMac and Mac Pro. On the Mac Pro front we might see Nehalem chips and on the iMac side I'm expecting juiced up graphics capabilities and (possibly) a design more in line with the new cinema display and (possibly) a bump to a quad core processor though not Nehalem just yet.

It's also too soon to talk about Snow Leopard. There might be some discussion about iLife/iWork updates but I'm not holding my breath there. I'm guessing iLife will get a bump with Snow Leopard and iWork will follow shortly after.

Oh, and I could see them announcing a 17" MBP based on the new manufacturing technique now that the first batches of MB and MBP15 are out and about. That one might be scuttled by the economic outlook, but my gut tells me that it kills them to have such a mixed up product line at the moment.

It's an open question as to whether Steve makes the presentation, but I think he simply has to. He's set too much of a precedent in the past. Then again, if Steve is good for anything it's breaking precedent.

He must be at the Keynote if he is the CEO. I also hope that he is the main speaker.

Without Jobs, Apple would not exist. I hope he continues to be the CEO for a long time, and not end up like Bill Gates.

Jobs really should begin passing the torch. His personality and presence is dangerously intertwined with the company. What would help would be a killer keynote without Jobs.

And that would start all sorts of speculation that Jobs is sick again or about to retire.

But a keynote delivered by Ive would be incredible.

I hope they don't use ARM chips. The iPod touch 2nd gen is the fastest mobile OS X device they ship, and it's completely straining against that CPU. I can't imagine something that's supposed to be more fully featured trying to run on that thing...plus it's much more useful if it can run REAL OS X of some version.

Quite understandable. It also would send a calming influence to the Stock price too...

Of course, what I wouldn't mind is for Steve to provide some lighter moments. Two things I can think of would be:

Announce/demo an app for the iPhone that puts Bill & Jerry Seinfeld online.

Provide 'Market Guidance' that Katie Huberty's IQ has been downgraded ... to 65.

Snow Leopard Speed Comparisons?
Imac touchscreen?

Agreed, I cannot see Macworld without Jobs. Being the "king" of Apple it may shed some negative light if he does not show up as everyone expects.

What does that have to do with anything involving Apple? There won't be Nehalem Macs save the Mac Pro until Q4 2009.

Hmm, given current and projected economic conditions, hope that Apple AND Jobs are both still around by then to get MY $10,000 I've been hanging onto now for two years waiting for a state of the art flagship tower that can handle blu-ray properly.

We all need to shut up about the economy. I mean come on! The only way in which it has affected my family is that gas is cheaper now. That's really it. Apple has 25 billion dollars and no debt. They'll be fine.

Also, we also need to keep dreaming on the Blu-ray thing.

I don't know about the copy and paste thing. It could be a fairly basic feature that Apple could add in a future version of the iPhone.

I suspect you are right. Heck, I bet lunch you are right. But that does not mean it will happen... look at everything else that would be "easy" to do right now: put FireWire back in, update the Mini, and (dare I go there) make a screen that's not also a mirror. Think we'll see those?

Well

Steve isn't leaving Apple yet, so its like in his duties list. But I like when he lets other people speak. We should start getting used to it.

He's losing his dynamic stage presence. I would be satisfied if he served as a chairman, introducing other Apple employees for various announcements.

Good for you. I'm thrilled that the downturn hasn't affected you. Unfortunately there are a few million other people that are losing their homes as a result of this. Are you going to tell those people to shut up about the economy?

Trust me, $25 Billion in the bank or not, Apple is worried about the economy.

You should be too.

How many of you are willing to bet that Steve will not be addressing MacWorld? I mean, put money on it?

That's what I thought.

I went back and read the original article. The jist was:

Apple has not come out and stated the obvious. This must mean the sky is falling.

This kind of "sensationalist journalism" makes me ill.

It's getting to the point where I don't care any more. The low point was when Steve talked about a phone and not much else during macworld. And then there was that "special event" where all he could announce was that the iPod Shuffle was now available in multiple colors and the nano would be tall and curved. And then at the next event they talked about a new manufacturing process for notebook cases.

This time I bet he announces that Apple notebooks will ship with a free trial size package of screen cleaner. Oh and "one more thing... In six months Snow Leopard will ship with zero new user facing features. Thanks for comming."

I hope I'm wrong but I'm not betting on it. I doubt we will see the mid-tower, blu-ray, netbooks or anything but "speed bumps" at most.
