Jobs and MacWorld

Ok a few things.

1)Steve may not be feeling well. He has had health issues. Apple may be waiting to see if he is up to the task.

2)He has been sharing the stage more and more over the last two years.

3)He may not feel there is anything GREAT to say, if he cannot get the record companies to go DRM free. I don't think Steve is all that excited about introducing new computers anymore, he is about "game-changing."
4)Apple and IDG may be watching the attendance numbers and ticket holders. This HAS to be a down year, dare I say it the LAST MacWorld as we know it. The last downturn(the dot com bust) killed Boston/NY.

Having said all this, I think Jobs takes the stage and shows off the new MAC PRO and a new cooler mini and "something special" either a tablet or a mid priced tower. I think the record companies are holding this up because I think the BIG announcement is this...
DRM free and one more thing...THE BEATLES on ITUNES with Paul and Ringo onstage. I guarantee this IS a way that Apple would spend some of it's BILLIONS. The reality isn't nearly as cool as the PRESS.

Let me fill everyone in on a little secret: Steve Jobs will give the keynote no matter what. Period.

Historically, it should be noted that the Macworld announcement always comes from IDG Expo, and the WWDC announcement directly from Apple. At most, Apple publishes a link to the IDG Expo press release on their "Hot News" Web site. Apple does not issue their own pre-keynote press release for Macworld.

Great post jaw04005!! So historically, latest date for an announcement was Dec 18th...

To me it seems strange, I mean, if he's going to do the keynote then why not confirm it as early as possible to encourage ticket sales and raise interest?

One explanation I could think of is that because the rumour mill is more mainstream these days (and generally gets more press attention) Jobs may not want to impact xmas sales of consumer goods by increasing the profile of this event too early.

Ok signal the false reports of Steve's poor health while people make a fortune from playing with Apple's stock! Steve will be there, chill people.

And don't create all this unrealistic hype for product releases and then whine afterwards. Just have fun and see what comes.

Agreed. There is a chance that Jobs might not be the main speaker, but he will be at Macworld unless something happens with his health.

I think I could watch a keynote done by Jonny Ive...He captured my attention when he was speaking in October. The only thing is he should learn to say "Aluminum" like everyone else.

Tim Cook, although a little drier, was not bad either. He kept me attention in October too. Of course, in both cases, I kept thinking "ok, when do I get to hear Steve?"

However, that being said, Steve Jobs has that something about him that just causes people to follow him. He could come to Macworld, introduce the iTurd and people would be standing outside an Apple store, just waiting in line to be the first one to hold this piece of s**t.

Unfortunately, Steve is not immortal and one day Apple will have to survive without him. We all hope that day doesn't come any time soon but I am realistic enough to realize that he is 53 and I am 24...I will (barring any tragedy) see the day where Apple no longer has Steve Jobs. It is sad but true.

Here's hoping for a Mid-Tower Mac Pro. But I won't hold my breath.
That would be very nice, but if it happens I do not think we will see it until after "Snow Leopard" comes preinstalled on the Mac. The same number of people that buy a mid-tower Mac Pro with "Leopard" will buy one with "Snow Leopard", but not everyone that buys one with "Leopard" will update it to "Snow Leopard". Now what is realistic is:

iMac - updated graphics, FireWire400 dropped, mini DisplayPort, and a quad-core processor (CTO at least)

Mac mini - updated with MacBook internals, mini DisplayPort, and FireWire400 dropped; however, Apple could replace it with FireWire800 since the Mac mini is a desktop model.

iWork & iLife - It has been 16 months so it is due for an update, but Apple might wait until "Snow Leopard" so 1) they are compiled 64-bit top-to-bottom from day-one instead of doing it through an update, or more likely because 2) some of the applications will require QuickTime X.

Cinema Displays - especially if the Mac mini is updated.

MacBook Pro 17" - We will get a date on when it will start shipping.

Future-speak and Adam Osborne.

Steve needs to avoid being another Adam Osborne. I am seeing some parallels here. Don't come out with a Mac Snow Vixen. A.O. had a superior product, but sales started lagging the industry after he talked too much future-speak.

I don't get how if Steve Jobs goes that means the end of Apple. Have you seen the crap Apple came out with lately? I am ready for a tablet and an MBA with a smaller footprint as well as the consumer notebook dropping back down to the $899 point. I see the light at the end of the tunnel!

I agree with you to a point, but Steve's nitpicking every little detail is the reason why Apple has 20 billion in the bank and beats evert PC product hands down. I would hate to see him go.

Good for you. I'm thrilled that the downturn hasn't affected you. Unfortunately there are a few million other people that are losing their homes as a result of this. Are you going to tell those people to shut up about the economy?

Trust me, $25 Billion in the bank or not, Apple is worried about the economy.

You should be too.

agreed...

i just went from making 130k/year to my position being eliminated due to the economy... i will get my last check on December 25... merry christmas eh?

i have held 3 jobs in my life and i am in my mid 30's. last company i was with for 8 years. got married ~ resigned from a great managerial position and hopped over to a competitor in hopes of making some more scratch to start a family. (october was my one year date with this company) brought in over 1.5 million in GP this year alone. last in... first out... three of us got hit with the wonderful news...

where i live 8% of companies are hiring and 48% are laying off...

my 401k was almost cut in half du to the market, and i had around 200k in the DOWJ & NASDAQ that are now worth around 80k...

if you think this economy isn't affecting anyone, you are living on another planet than i...

with all that being said, i still plan on buying another MPB for myself over the holidays! :D
