Perhaps I'm wrong, but I think you're referring to making a slideshow by hitting the slideshow button. I have gotten that to work fine, and it exports with music fine.

The problem I'm having is highlighting photos and choosing to export them as a quicktime movie with music (not in slideshow mode).

You're right, just choosing export will not have the audio attached, but I was referring to is you can "force" the audio to work if you just hit the play button to "reselect" the audio (without actually going into slideshow feature), then I get my slideshow to show up with the audio, it must be a bug, but that is the work around I found that works for me.

Thanks for the help, but quick question, where are you going to choose the audio song without going into the slideshow feature? That's the only place I've found it in iPhoto.

Many thanks.

Can someone tell me what the "original location" of the programs is? I moved them a while ago before I realized that SU worked that way. Right now it is in Applications>iLife and I'm not getting anything.

they need to be in the Applications folder, not in a subfolder of Applications

In the lower left corner of the program next to the PLUS (+) is the right arrow button (>) (play button), hit that button, select your song, you don't necessarily have to preview your slideshow, but you can if you want to, then go to export.. quicktime, etc. You will then get your pictures in a slideshow in Quicktime in the smaller size you want (as you're right doing it in Slideshow itself creates HUGE files). I do this frequently for emails. I think this will work for you.

Thanks so much for your help, that has been driving me nuts since January...

If you're ever in Fargo (ND) I'll take you up on the beer! :) I'm glad it worked for you.

Importing video from a DV videocamera when using analog passthrough or recording live video

Does this mean this couldn't be done, prior to 5.0.2? I plan on buying a Digital camcorder soon and plan to import my analog tapes through the Digital camera.
I never tried it myself, but I understand that 5 and 5.0.1 had a bug that prevented this from working properly. It did work in prior versions, though (4.0.1 and older).

I think. :)

...and iDVD 5.0.1 still flaky on the widescreen. Man, Apple came up with the most retarded way of setting widescreen bits!! Arggghhh!!

Well, thank goodness for DVD SP. I think Apple needs an FCE-level app for DVD authoring. iDVD sucks and there's no other option unless you want to shell out the bucks for DVD SP.

Update to news story

iSight Update 1.0.3 (also in Software Update)
The iSight 1.0.3 update improves the iSight's audio performance. This update is recommended for iSight users running Mac OS X 10.3.7 and later.

I really haven't noticed all that much of a difference. iPhoto is still the mediocre performer it has always been, and it's a bit the same for iMovie. :(

Weird...

I ran Software Update and got the "New software is available for your computer" screen (as opposed to the "No new software" message) but the list is empty?!

Anyone else having this problem?

Stupid iDVD

Well hopefully this fixes the issue when I try to burn dvd's I have created between iMovie and iDVD. It sucks up all my rescources for about 40 mins to render a 6 min DVD with menus and everything and then when it goes to burn it always tells me it had an error during track initialization and that I have to delete all encoded assets and retry. Its only worked once and the movie stopped working after a min and a half POS. If anyone knows if i'm just doing something else wrong feel free to let me know

probably been said, but iphoto 5's still too buggy to rely on for any photo editing. it's also just very slow no matter what system I use it on. I like the some of the organizational aspects of it, and it's great for just keeping pics in order, but it's in real need of a X.1 update. I'm sure it's in order.. this is Apple we're talking about.

slideshow performance and photo editing on G3 systems

Whatever the problem had been with iPhoto 5 on the G3, this was a desperately needed update. I immediately noticed significant speed improvements on my G3 iMac. Nothing earth-shattering, but it seems about as fast as iPhoto 4 had been. My wife had been pissed at me because for installing iPhoto 5 because it was so slow as to be practically unusable.

Digital 8 problems

These was a reference to "Capturing video with Hi-8 (Digital 8) devices". I still have ilife 4. Was there a problem in that as well? I have some digital 8 tapes that I need to import and am wondering if there is a problem with imovie 4?

This is of note: the iSight Updater has been available to Tiger ADC users for a few months now (I submitted a rumor about it but it never made it online). I'm guessing it has to do with the introduction of Tiger, but I'm not sure. Could anyone tell me how many bytes the folder is with 1.0.3? I'd like to compare it with the Tiger beta.

I have been using my isight with the 1.0.2 update and have not had any problems at all. I updated today but I see no real improvement/performance difference. I am wondering exactly what is different about the 1.0.3 update? the description from Apple about the update is vague as usual. It mentions Audio Improvements. Well.....I never really had any audio probs before the update.Whats the Dealee-O ?

Thank you Apple!!
iPhoto is more bearable on my iBook G3 900!
Thanks for not forgetting all of us who still have G3's!!!!
