I bought a 8g yesterday for 399.99 at At&t and had to extend my contract. I sold my black 16g 3g to a buddy because i switched to Verizon for the Storm (worst 24 hrs of my life) and when i went back to at&t i had to pay 399.99 but i didnt mind because i love the iphone. Also the STORM is TRASH.
I went to the G1, worst decision ever. Stuck with a 2G :(

Yeah, and I know they aren't technically three "capacity models" but...

iPhone 3G Black 8gb
iPhone 3G Black 16gb
iPhone 3G White 16gb

Going into production, not in production. I think we might see a 64gb touch at Macworld, and a 32gb iPhone (along with a remodel) at WWDC.
I would think that both would be introduced at the same time, since they are based on the same chip with the current design.

The touch has two memory slots and the iPhone has one. So if the 32GB memory modules are available, then both the iPhone and touch would be upgraded to 32GB and 64GB, respectively.

We are 6 months or so away from a brand new iPhone. I wouldn't upgrade just for storage at this point.

Agree with you on the storage point.

But how do we know we are 6 months away from a new iPhone?

I'm guessing he uses the previous upgrade to the iPhone as model. iPhone 3G came almost exactly 1 year after the original iPhone.

So I'm guessing the next iPhone (3.5G with full HSDPA/HSUPA) will be next year in WWDC'09. That's a guess from the last timeline events. Also, take into account Apple has said they will fiercely update and price the iPhone. Makes you wonder...

Edit - I for one think Apple might reintroduce the 4GB model at $99 for low end/entry level market and possibly add the 32GB model for high end market. Look at the MacBook line-up, sorta looks like that.

I just hope Apple puts back the Aluminum style back into the iPhone, thats my biggest hope.

I see. Thanks.

For me, 32GB will be the sweet spot memory wise. However, 3.5G would be nice.

Your so certain because...?

Mostly because I sense Apple will be reluctant to cut into iPod sales by releasing such a high capacity iPhone (because to my knowledge Apple doesn't make as much per iPhone as they do per iPod), but I have many reasons.

Yeah 32GB is more than enough for a phone, I would be happy with that as well [I don't need to carry more than 1000 songs since I don't even get through half of them in a day, for TV Shows/Movies/Podcast it is a different story]. 3.5G will certainly be a blessing.

I don't know, but I feel like I can guesstimate. I've been following Apple for a few years now and I'm just beginning to see how they work. July 11 I believe was when iPhone 3G was out so now we're around 6 months give or take from an announcement or at least something.

32 GB is a lot for a phone. I'm pretty happy with 16 but I know there are the "I want everything" people out there who would appreciate more.

Understand the guesstimate.

I had wondered if I had missed some info.

Because the cell phone market is very dynamic, we may see updates sooner.

Understand.

For me, I currently have a 32GB touch which has around 30GB of songs, music videos, TV shows, movies, personal videos, pictures and a bunch of apps. So a 32GB iPhone would be great for my use. It's worth the wait for me. And if I get lucky, and it is upgraded as well all the better. :)

In the meantime, I will continue to use my cell phone and carry my touch.

Even if they'd let you extend your contract, the carrier would still be taking a huge hit as your previous subsidy will not have been paid off yet.

Please refer to AT&T's Upgrade Eligibility Requirements

How fast you pay off your subsidy is a function of how much you pay per month for your plan, which determines how soon you will be eligible for an upgrade. I guarantee you AT&T makes quadruple the subsidy price before they let you upgrade, so don't worry about whether or not you are paying them back.

Indeed it is. Now more rumors of an iPhone nano are even starting to surface (See front page) so who knows?

Looks like a 32 gb iPhone would be perfect for you. It's really only a matter of when not if. They're going to have a 32 gb iPhone. They'll also have a 64 gb iPhone one day, probably. However, no matter how much content you have on there, the battery isn't enough to play all of it on a single charge :p

You don't think they'll do a funky touch thing like:
16gb - $229
32gb - $299

They might but I see Apple charging more for the first couple months till the hype dies down, then they would lower prices.

I really am comfortable with 32GB. I've tried to run within 16GB, but it's too small for my needs. Although for many, I am sure that 16GB is more than enough.

Agree.

Probably. But I won't wait until then. Don't need that much space. However, I am sure there are some who do.

Snort!

I'll just carry a long extension cord. Ha ha!

Seriously, I've been looking at battery backups like this one.
