This makes little sense considering that recalled vehicles don't lose their value as long as there's a fix, and cars get recalled all the time. The value will go right back up to where it should be once a fix emerges, and yes, there will be a fix, whether it's a software update or Apple initiates a swapping program for the affected units. No need to return it prematurely.

We're talking about a complete phone replacement, a situation that will only occur if there is a hardware issue that needs to be resolved. After all this bad press the interest in a 'Gen 1/First Run' iPhone 4 will be significantly diminished if Apple comes out with a hardware tweak that is reported to correct the problem(s).

It's a matter of perception. Regardless of whether my current phone is perfectly fine, views of it will inevitably be colored by all the bad press. Best to just take the replacement phone and not deal with all the questions and suspicion when it comes time to resell.

What's more, I'd be able to sell a replacement phone that would have less 'miles' on it. Another bonus for me and future prospective buyers.

Yes, even though apple extended the return window to 30 days, this phone definitely has issues, even though personally for me, I have not experienced them yet. (though my friends have)

If there is a recall then there will be a h/w fix so no need to return. No need for me to return right now anyway. Anyone who can't deal w/ the issues can return now & buy back latter if they want. Apple is not going to pull iP4 off the market though. It's not that dire. We are not talking exploding batteries. It's mostly bad PR of Apple's own doing that is the prob.

Your poll left of one important choice and that is that there is not going to be a recall. You may get some form of credit for a case or bumpers, thats all. That is all that is needed. Even the NYT says so.
