I called AT&T this morning and they changed my upgrade date from Nov till Now.

Granted my original upgrade eligibility date did say June, but was changed at some point.

Honestly, even though it's changed I'm still not sure what I want to do..

I sold my iPhone 4 last week for almost double. I'm really not sure if I want to extend my contract beyond 6/12. Decisions..

You can almost easily sell your iPhone 4 for no less than $350 after launch. Use the $350 towards purchase of either a partial upgrade or full price.

Is that really worth the hassle just to have it day 1? For me, no it's not. I can wait a couple of months. I may just ask my wife to make it Christmas gift for me and call it a day.

Plus they are still losing money. If they wait until the upgrade date then sell. They are make $350 instead of putting it into the upgrade fees...

what did you say to have your upgrade pushed up??

I have the $250 early upgrade option, I had planned on doing that because I have a $200 gift card already, but if its just an iPhobe 4S I may just hold off.

My full upgrade isnt until Feb 2012

I tried to get an upgrade, but no dice. I have an 11/25 account upgrade date and I've been with them since 2007 with a $150 a month family plan...

:(

Mine was up next year and i just talked to the rep and she back dated it since im a valued customer ;) since 2007.
I think it all depends on who you talk to and how nice you are to them.

If Sprint does get the new iPhone I might consider leaving AT&T. My main concern is keeping unlimited data, so Verizon is not a real option for me.

I didn't think they could do this over the phone?

No dice

Well, I just called AT&T and was told that with that they would not change the date with respect to the iPhone. They can move my date for any other device. I then said if that was so, I want information to cancel my account. Since I got my iPhone 4 at launch, my 2 year contract expires June 17, 2012 and as of today I have a $175 early cancellation fee. I've been with AT&T for several years longer.

Seems very short sighted that they won't move the date since its less than a month adjustment that I'm asking for. Obviously it's now cheaper for me to drop AT&T, although, I'd rather not. I've been pleased with my service with them, coverage is fine where I live and I like being able to surf and talk at the same time. I also don't want to loose my unlimited date plan.

Btw, asking for your upgrade date to be adjusted is not like asking for your mortgage to be changed. They set your upgrade date using their internal policies, it is not set in your contract. I'm not asking to be let out of the 2 year contract.

Has anyone really gotten AT&T to move up their upgrade date for getting an iPhone?

Did you ever think to call them and see if you have any options? I know my great company known as Verizon will let me get 2 year upgrade pricing when my current date is 11/12/12 and all I have to do is pay $20.

I understand your gripe, but they could say the same thing as well. Just like they could move it up you could wait a month. I'm sticking with my guns on this and I would be completely blown away if AT&T said they were moving dates up to upgrade for the new iPhone.

Has anyone really gotten AT&T to move up their upgrade date for getting an iPhone?

I called this morning and had virtually the same experience. I got the iPhone 4 at launch and currently have a full upgrade date of 11/25/2011. I was extremely persistent (yet curtious) as to moving up my upgrade date. At the end I was told that I could have my iPhone upgrade moved up to 11/1/2011 otherwise I could switch to any other phone besides the iPhone effective today. I'm still hopeful that once everything is announced that they will take in to consideration anyone within 6 months as they did with the iPhone 4.

You forgot "Switch to Sprint and pay AT&T's early termination fee." or you could add it to the switch to Verizon option aha.

To give, maybe one person hope, I checked my upgrade status today and said I was eligible for a full upgrade. Last week it told me late November. My wife's line still says February though.

My full upgrade isnt until Feb 2012

Earlier in the year when I did *639#, it said June as my early upgrade date. Somewhere later in the year it changed to November. I basically just stuck to that. Not sure if it's true or not, but I was told they can see every time you do *639# and the result it gives you. They researched and found it was as I said and updated.

I'm confident almost anything can be done over the phone. It's just getting the right person that will do it.

It seems as though there are a lot of people with mid to late November dates and it just seems foolish that they wouldn't bump up the upgrade dates. To have the potential of losing a good customer base, especially with the addition of a third competitor, just doesn't make sense. Especially if we are talking about 30-45 days from the anticipated October 14 launch. I have to imagine that losing a two year commitment/contract renewal has to cost them much more than sliding up upgrade eligibility 6 months. They did it last year and I realistically don't see them deviating from this, it just does not make sense... both from a PR and a business model sense.

They're not losing any money because if you leave you still have to pay them leave. Don't be shocked tomorrow if they don't bump up eligibility dates because I just don't see them doing that this go round. Last year it was done to lock down customers as VZW was getting the iPhone IMO.

So you are saying that $175 is worth more than a two year (or possibly longer) contract renewal? To me they will make far more than $175 over the course of two years off of each and every contract renewal.

EDIT: Plus now you have a more competitive market with the introduction of Sprint. If Spint sticks to thier guns and offers introductory Unlimited Data for the first couple months then you can bet they will lose a good portion of business.

Hasn't AT&T given 1 year full upgrades for Iphones in the past?

I don't know about the original Iphone, but I remember I was eligible from the 3G -> 3GS (even though I didn't do the 3GS.) And didn't they do the full upgrade from the 3GS -> 4?

Not to say that they'll do it again just because of the past, but why wouldn't they?

With other competitors having/getting the new iPhone it's more tempting for me to leave to Verizon/Sprint. Especially with the numerous blackholes of 3G signals AT&T have where I live.

I really don't understand these upgrade dates at all....
A lot of people are saying they got the iphone 4 at launch and they have november dates. My brother and I started a family plan with the iphone 4s at launch date and my brother has a january 2012 date and I have a February 2012 date. Where do they come up with these random dates??

Cool i'm in the same boat that you were in. I was eligible in June and now I can't upgrade until 11/19. I'm going to call att and see what their talking about.

Based on a variety factors and when it comes to a family plan MRC(monthly recurring charge) plays a factor and I believe the magic number is $99 a month with plan and data plan. It's been posted on here before.

Just called att and asked what's my upgrade date they told me 11/19 I told him that when I check earlier this year att services said I was eligible for an upgrade in June. The customer services guy went into my notes on my account and couldnt find why they change my eligibly date. He said said att can change the ebigibly at anytime, or something to that degree.

I told him I would like to know more information about terminating my contract he gave me that information and I told him to plan on canceling my services with att. I was hoping he would call my bluff and say they would give me that upgrade. I plan on calling att again maybe talking to a supervisor maybe they can help me out.
