Why are you calling before the phone is even availble? Heck, it hasn't even been announced!

I love being head of family plan....I am eligible for full upgrade ever 6 months...they seem to think that is a reward for having to pay the bill for 5 iPhones....LOL rrrggghhhh Damn kids:mad::mad:

Well, I just called AT&T and was told that with that they would not change the date with respect to the iPhone. They can move my date for any other device. I then said if that was so, I want information to cancel my account. Since I got my iPhone 4 at launch, my 2 year contract expires June 17, 2012 and as of today I have a $175 early cancellation fee. I've been with AT&T for several years longer.

Seems very short sighted that they won't move the date since its less than a month adjustment that I'm asking for. Obviously it's now cheaper for me to drop AT&T, although, I'd rather not. I've been pleased with my service with them, coverage is fine where I live and I like being able to surf and talk at the same time. I also don't want to loose my unlimited date plan.

Btw, asking for your upgrade date to be adjusted is not like asking for your mortgage to be changed. They set your upgrade date using their internal policies, it is not set in your contract. I'm not asking to be let out of the 2 year contract.

Has anyone really gotten AT&T to move up their upgrade date for getting an iPhone?

Why? Because tens of hundreds of thousands of people like you call every year and expect to have their upgrade date changed in order to get the new iPhone for that year. That's why, the deal with people like you in droves year after year. Why bother with 2yr commitments? People use the whole "they're loosing the 2yr leash if the don't give in", yet you call every year seeking another subsidized phone.

Question......could someone explain to me why a person signs a two year contract for a subsidized iPhone and then raises holy hell when the provider won't just cancel that contract? Are these the same people who want the bank to cancel part of their mortgage because the home is underwater?

I know I sound like a smart ass, but I'm not. Why do these people think the world owes them something. The same people think they can skip the $250 early upgrade fee by going to a different carrier and paying the cancellation fee that starts at $375 and declines slowly, never getting below $250 before you are given upgrade options. What a world! You signed an obligation..live up to your responsibility and quit whining.

You know why? Because it is business - and as a client, I am a valuable commodity. It cost them a bundle to replace me and therefore I have a little clout. Do not think for a second that if they couldn't make an extra buck off me that they wouldn't. So I do not feel one moment of remorse if I can find a way to bend them over and get something for free (or at a discount).

They spend millions on lobbyists - they spend millions creating a business atmosphere where they have the upper hand. If you wish to be a lemming and worry about the morality of using your position as a valuable commodity in your favor in a business transaction - I feel for you. I suspect you only purchase name brands and do what your broker says you should do...

Not me.

So I called ATT again about an early upgrade. It looked like it was going to go through but then the guy talked to his supervisor and the supervisor told him that APPLE has laid a strict rule on early upgrades. He told him that I would not be able to get an early upgrade. The supervisor then told him that the iphone 5 will be coming out in a week and that things might change as far as promotions and they might move my upgrade eligibility. My upgrade eligibility is Nov. 25th fyi so I guess I'll check back after tomorrows announcement. Fingers crossed.

Every six months? How is that possible?

Now I know I am with Verizon, but I have 4 lines of service with 3 smartphones and I only get upgraded after 20 months.

Am I missing something here?

Upgrade Eligibility at 1pm today: 03/31/12
Upgrade Eligibility at 8pm today: 06/12/12

WHAT THE HELL?

This sucks after 4 months of AT&T trying to trick me into playing $300 for mistakes on their end the least they could do is let me look forward to an upgrade in the next couple of months! I was banking on the "early upgrades for anyone with eligibility in the next 6 months" this blows!

Any suggestions?

What?? I think you're confusing the date of your two year contract with AT&T and the upgrade date you can get a new device. The first is specified in my contact with them and has the associated early termination fee. It was fully disclosed when I signed my contract.

The second was not. It's set internally by them and varies account by account. Some say the magic number is a reoccurring monthly bill of over $100 for you to get an earlier date, but who knows. So because of this flexibility and the option of porting my number to a different carrier and getting their iPhone, it seems short sighted not to try and negotiate for a better product. If droves of customers are calling then their policy is definitely arbitrary and unclear.

But bottom line is, some accounts for people who bought an iPhone 4 are able to upgrade now and some can not. Why berate people from trying to be in the former? If paying $7/mo to make my bill over $100 gets me an upgrade now without paying $250 extra I would like to have been told.

I called AT&T this morning and they changed my upgrade date from Nov till Now.

Granted my original upgrade eligibility date did say June, but was changed at some point.

Honestly, even though it's changed I'm still not sure what I want to do..

I sold my iPhone 4 last week for almost double. I'm really not sure if I want to extend my contract beyond 6/12. Decisions..

Man, how did u manage that? I tried twice and was told both times apple won't let them. My upgrade date is 11/13 , I just wanted it moved up a month. I am part Of a family plan of 5 lines that have been paying 270 a month for almost two years. I am also a premier customer, by using my dads ID from his job, which I guess buys all their phones from AT&T. You got really lucky that they moved yours up, aré they lying to me when they said Apple wouldnt let them move up any eligibility dates?
