Bang & Olufsen.

The influence of this company on the landscape of product design is immeasurable. I really need say no more.

Here we have the classic 'Beomaster 2400' from 1977 and a pair of 'Beovox 2500' 'cubes' from 1967.

Beautiful.

Yeah, very correct, well see what they make now...:D

Ooh, Muji is only one of the more fabulous things ever....:D

It's a shop that originated in Japan and sells no brand, simple type stuff. It can be a bit of a mix of stuff, and some stuff is incredibly cheap, and some seems expensive for what it is, but it's basically very good. They have a website www.muji.co.uk, but it only sells a limited range. There is a Japanese website, but it I tend to get a bit lost on it. Their stationery is amazing, and I'm currently coveting a pair of slippers to buy on my next trip to London. I just really appreciate being able to get stuff that is beautifully and simply designed. I don't want to pay a designer price tag, but I equally don't want some garish cheapo stuff.

This is also a really interesting article about Muji, that appeared in The Guardian magazine. Sadly you miss out on the pictures on the web though. :( The Japanese shops look amazing though, you can buy anything by the looks of it.

edit: oops, the wine opened above is evidently taking a toll on my typing speed....:D

I brought home a whole bunch of crap from the Muji in London last I was there. It took an immense amount of control not to walk out with half the store.

On a related note, the Beeb are running a 'Best of British Design' competition but I can't see any reason why people outside the UK can't vote.

25 shortlisted items are:

• Aston Martin DB5
• London A-Z
• Sinclair Calculator
• Raleigh Chopper
• Concorde
• Dr Martens boot
• E-Type Jaguar
• The Face magazine
• Grand Theft Auto
• K2 phone kiosk
• Anglepoise Lamp
• Mini (car, not Mac)
• Mini skirt
• British road signage
• Penguin paperback
• Sgt Pepper album cover
• Power, Corruption and Lies
• Catseye
• Routemaster bus
• Supermarine Spitfire
• Tomb Raider
• Dyson vacuum cleaner
• World Wide Web
• Underground map
• Verdana typeface

Why Grand Theft Auto and the World Wide Web can be in there and no Mac products strikes me as a little odd, especially given Jonathan Ives' recent awards... maybe it's the 'Designed in California' thing.

Verdana but no Gill Sans?

My vote? Tough choice... probably Underground Map, with Anglepoise Lamp and Penguin not far behind... ooo, but wait wait... Lara Croft too.

Nice find Blue... ;) I'd agree on the Underground Map and Anglepoise Lamp, though I'd also throw in the Catseye. ;)

Ooh, I'd almost agree - I'd agree with Tube map and Penguin, but the road signage is pretty damn good. :)
