Also none of the battery apps on the AppStore work anymore since iOS 10.

This is correct.

To get a real reading, have to plug into a Mac with coconutBattery or something like that. Even then, I've found the accuracy of this to have a much wider % variance with iOS 11 than pre iOS 10. :/ My iPhone now goes from 93% original capacity to 96% on coconutBattery (when plugged into my Mac). Oh well, 220 cycles and 96% - I shouldn't complain :).

The battery life app in the App Store still works.

They still work as in, they'll still run, but the amount of information they have access to was almost completely removed. They can't see charge cycles, they can't see a lot of stuff that they could see before to come up with accurate information.

Now to get all the information needed to be an accurate battery app, one has to plug into a Mac - so apps like coconutBattery on the Mac will have access to charge cycles, etc, etc...

Changing the subject because I don't want to start a new thread and I haven't been able to find an answer… And it's not that important to ask right now…if anyone is still here; Since the new phone will have wireless charging apparently, will that work if you put a case on it?

Any answer is speculation at this point, but the rumors are pretty solid... The short answer is, yes, it should charge with a case on it, as long as the case is electromagnetically "transparent" - basically, no metal. The typical plastics and leather would not be a problem.

The iPhone is expected to use the Qi wireless charging system. The system is designed to work when the phone is in close proximity to the charger; direct contact is not required. Practically speaking, "close proximity" is a matter of millimeters, but that's more than enough to allow for the thickness of a protective case.
