If the iPad was not an option I likely would have gotten a new laptop. Either that, or an iPod touch while waiting for the new iPhone.

If hypothetically the iPad would not exist, none of the other tablets would either. They are all a direct response to the success of the iPad.
I agree with this. If there was no iPad there would be no iPad like tablets.
Worthless poll.
it's fun to speculate. why is everyone hung up on the wrongheaded idea of no ipad=no tablets?
the ipad didn't just magically spring into existence out of steve's fragrant feces (allusion here to ancient japanese mythology). the tablet concept can probably be traced back more than a hundred years, with more recent predecessors being star trek equipment, microsoft tablets in the early part of this decade, and so on. in terms of operating systems, android was in development well before the ipad.
yep. the ipad magically sprang forth out of steve's fragrant feces and we all were awed yet again by apple's ability to fertilize yet another new crop of unprecedented, flawless tech gadgets...
or, the more logical possibility that tablets have been under development for decades, and however extraordinarily far ahead of the competition apple's ipad was, there were actually tablets that existed when it came out.

I like the Touchpad.
Hopefully, they'll improve the hardware/software integration and it'd be great and not just good^^
If the iPad didn't exist, the biggest response to the "What sort of tablet would you use" would be "None."
If we were to enter some sort of alternate-reality universe where the iPad had never existed, I doubt, sincerely that any of the other devices listed in this silly poll would exist either, seeing as they all - to a greater or lesser extent - essentially copy the iPad's form factor and physical characteristics. I never had the slightest interest in buying one of the various "Slate" tablets powered by Microsoft Windows. I guess the closest might have been either the Amazon Kindle or B&N Nook, which at least provide unique reading capabilities in a price and form factor that is appealing.
