Wait, didn't Apple start the use of the computer mouse? In which case I would be trying to find out a way to improve moving the cursor on the screen.

Probably FreeBSD or a variant like PC-BSD as my main desktop, along with a secondary machine running OS 9 or whatever was latest for music and video stuff. That was my setup prior to 2002 - FreeBSD as the primary machine, and a Power Mac 7600 with OS 8.6 for occasional music and movie editing.

Of course, I got my Power Mac G4 with 10.1.2 in 2002 and never looked back. The FreeBSD machine has stuck around in various hardware incarnations as a headless server, but it's about to be retired this weekend. The new Mac mini is taking over functions of both the G4 and the FreeBSD machine, all in a much smaller package.

Nice! I like to keep a headless server around for those times I want to put my Mac to sleep while server is still busy doing its (web/ftp/file/etc.)-server job. Whenever I get a new machine, the old desktop becomes the new server and the old server gets donated. Servers have been FreeBSD most of the time; however, recently I decided to give Ubuntu Server a try.

I'd probably be dual-booting Linux and XP.

I use OS X now because of the quality of the apps. For me, the 'there's more apps on Windows' argument has always been a bit nonsensical. I don't care if there's more software for Windows -- the software I want to use is on OS X (Mail, iCal, iPhoto, Yep!, Pages) ... I want to write AppleScripts, not DOS batch files or VBS files...

So I'd use the OS which has the best software. Linux desktop apps have come a long way in recent years. Windows desktop apps tend to annoy the crap out of me. So I'd probably be splitting my time between Ubuntu and XP, depending on which had the best app for the area I want to work in at any given time.

Well, Apple at least invented FireWire.

Not entirely true.... Apple may have initiated the firewire project, but it was a collaboration of many companies and groups that made firewire.

I would most likely use Vista or Ubuntu. I like the flexibility of Ubuntu and it's fun to show off, but you just can't beat the compatibly that Windows has with most commercial software.

Suse linux or Novel desttop linux(leaner suse) i use them currently for other machines and suse has always been great though i am putting a lot of work into programing a better window manager than kde.

I'm not a huge fan of either KDE nor GNOME. If you get something good in the works, let me know :D

No doubt I would be using Ubuntu also, I'm seriously considering going back to using it for my main desktop os, and staying with mac's for my laptop. I hate not being able to upgrade my hardware. I just love the stability of Unix like operating systems and going back to windows just isn't something my sanity can take anymore.

Do not be afraid to do it. It is your choice. Do whatever you like. :)
