i sold my iPad in part because it was too big for what it did. i mainly used it to read books, and some little other things. the size was just too big for the functionality i needed. a smaller one would definitely bring me back to using an iPad.

I am very happy with my iPad size so I won't switch to the iPad mini UNLESS.... ... ... ... ... Nah... The current iPad size is just perfect for mobile browsing, emails, reading, drawing, quick Office docs editing and gaming. Apple can make the iPad even thinner but I can't imagine it's display size getting any smaller.

I won't switch but I will buy one to replace my iPod touch. The iPad mini will be perfect for games and music. Also when I'm on the road, watching a movie or streaming, it's nice to have a secondary device to just surf and what not.

I generally like the idea of a smaller iPad. My husband just got a 7" tablet and I think the size is quite nice. For my work purposes, however, I need the extra screen size so I won't personally be switching.

I don’t believe it’s true at all. If it is just a 7.85″ display with a 1024×768 resolution running regular iPad apps, the interface will be too small to use.

If a third size were being introduced (iPhone/iPod, iPad and now mini iPad) I think we would have heard something about it at WWDC so that developers could get apps ready for it.

The interface wouldn't be too small. All icons and text would be just as big as on an iPhone. ;)

If one were released I'd probably pick one up. But. I wouldn't give up my new iPad either. I might read (iBooks, Kindle) more often on a 7" device.. But that'd be the only advantage for me. I prefer the bigger screen for games, magazines, comics, web browsing, iTunes U, Video, etc. A smaller iPad would be a very small part of my own Apple ecosystem.

Had a 7" tablet before (playbook). The size was too small to be useful, and too big to be portable or convenient.
So I won't be switching. Though I will definitely be getting at least 1 for development.

No chance at all. Too big to fit in my pocket, and if I'm carrying it around otherwise I'd much rather have the larger screen size.

Now, a 5" iPhone.......

Also, you are kidding yourself if you'd think it'd be $200. The 8gb iPod Touch launches at $200, and really we should be at the point where 16 gb is the minimum. If it exists, maybe $300 if Apple really wants to push it.

Dam, it's a good job Apple did not release the original iPad1, and subsequent models in a 7" form factor.

Listening to what most people on this forum are saying, hardly anyone would of bought it, as they say it's the wrong size and Apple would have looked really embarrassed with egg on their face as their new tablet failed big time in the marketplace.

I wouldn't put any stock on what people say on here, just look at kindle fire sales. & the excitement over the nexus

Remember all those " returned my 10th ipad 3 bad screen threads, you never heard about this problem in the media except here

An ipad mini would be a huge seller, specially for kids who have ipod touch , i have 3 nephews all with ipod touch 4th , they want this ipad mini, the ipad 3 is just too expensive

Im sure if you went back to 2010 people here said the same thing about the ipad

I technically won't switch because I have never owned an iPad. I prefer the 7 inch form factor over the larger iPad because of portability issues. That said, I have been waiting to see if the rumors of a 7" iPad were true. If Apple releases one, I will check it out along with the Kindle Fire 2 and the Nexus 7.

I have an iPad 2

I'd ante up for a smaller iPad at about $250. Must be under a lb though. It would become my default reader for books and maybe gaming as often Airplay games get tedious with a 1.4lb "controller"

Retina will come to the iPad mini when it's feasible (read affordable). I have problems having multiple sizes for iPads. iCloud is going to make keeping data in sync across these devices trivial.

A $250 iPad Mini is wishful thinking. An iPad Mini with a Retina display is laughable. :p

Won't "switch" but I'd prolly add one to the stable if it comes in under $300.:D. I know my kids will each be saving for one for sure to replace aging iPods if it becomes a reality.
