I would sell my new ipad & use the money to buy 2 ipad minis , if the price is around $200-250

How about you guys?

Oh and only if the screen is retina

Well in 200-250, no doubt worth a buy and Definitely Yes : if someone is into too much I-Reading:), as it is going to be less in wt.

I have an addiction I would buy it in a second if they came out with a new iPad twice a year I would buy it

If the storage were at least 16gb, I could see selling my iPad 2 and picking one up. I would think Apple would be kind of working backwards by not including a retina display on a 7 inch iPad. Safe to say, all iPhones and Regular size iPads are going to have a Retina display, or whatever is better after it, so why would they put out a 7 inch iPad w/out it?

I did a poll of the entire USA population and 89% state that anything smaller than the current sized iPad is pointless/useless/stupid. The other 11% said they would buy a smaller iPad.

So that settles it.

I would, however, like to see a larger iPad...say 13".

I have an iPhone and iPad and love both. I use my iPhone more as I always have it on me, the iPad is never very far away but I'm to lazy to get it. I don't think the 7.85" iPad would change this for me. If the price is 250$ I will pick one up for my kids, not because it's better than the 10". I'l get it just to save money. What I would really love is a 5" iPhone like the note.

I would assume this would start at $299 for an 8GB... I doubt Apple will match the Nexus 7 price point. Apple will come up with new and creative uses for a mini iPad which will make the nay-sayers think twice.

i would be more likely to sell my iPad 2 for an iPad Mini than sell my iPhone 4S for the iPhone 5 w/ a 4" screen

what i want to see though, is a built-in "bridge" mode between all iOS devices that allow wifi iOS devices to connect via a wireless bridge to the iOS devices with a data plan. RIM did this for their Blackberry phones and the Blackberry Playbook. you don't need to pay an extra $20 / mo for a tethering plan or jailbreak your device.

since unlimited plans have been phased out (they're in the processing of phasing out grandfathered plans), wireless carriers have no justification anymore for charging you extra for each method of connectivity to your data plan. if i buy 5GB per month for $50/mo, i should be allowed to use that 5GB however i want to, and not pay extra per method of connectivity. we are already seeing this with the Verizon "Share Everything" plan structure where they dropped the $20/mo tethering fee. however if i want to use a 3G/4G device on my Share Everything plan i must shell out an additional $10/mo for that tablet. obviously going with a wifi tablet and tethering with your iPhone will be free with this new plan though.

anyways, as stated above, i want to see a wireless bridge mode between iOS devices. i love my iPad and i love my iPhone, but sometimes i wish the two could talk with one another more efficiently than iCloud sync

You guys forget that 7" would be perfect for gaming

Most on here are thinking of reading , but younger kids will be wanting this for gaming

I was never against the idea of an iPad mini but at the same time I'm very happy with mine. There's advantages to both I think so when it's time to replace my current iPad I'll evaluate both of them and decide. :)

I don't see it priced that low if it's retina also. The 7.85" isn't half the product of a 10".

Well apple is obviously going to get the price as low as they possibly can (assuming it exists) because it's sole reason for being created is to compete with talets of that price range.

Indeed, as I said elsewhere.
Customer base is the only thing that matters long term.

Apple are stupid if they repeat the mistakes of the past, be all snotty and say we don't wish to appeal to people on lower budgets, and again, as happened before watch the mass market select something else in the much longer term.

If they are clever, they should make a smaller device and take very very little profit, to simply get the mass population into their system, buying apps, loading personal content onto it, and take the entire mass market.

If they don't, then someone else will in the long term.

I don’t believe it’s true at all. If it is just a 7.85″ display with a 1024×768 resolution running regular iPad apps, the interface will be too small to use.ImageImageImageImage

What you are saying makes sense, but Apple has such an amazing system currently, with so few resolution changes.

One major complaint I see with android devices are their heavily varied resolutions, and I find it doubtful that apple would dump a third resolution for developers to handle, especially on a product like the iPad mini. I see the device simply as a way to bring apple products to another income level, and they are going to try and make it slide through with as few complications as possible, similar to the iPod touch.

Take the iPhone, slice it up, and sell it as an iPod touch at half the price. That's what the iPad mini will be, if anything.

The resolution will either be non-retina and equal to the iPhone (which does have a massive display), or semi-retina and equal to the iPad 1/2. If they do decide to make it ipad resolution, apple will most likely leave the heat from the small buttons and similar problems on developers, but I'll take any wagers saying that apple will add a 3rd resolution. That's of course, if the iPad mini even exists.

I wouldn't switch. A smaller screen would be impractical for what I want a tablet for. Basically, an alternative to my laptop. I use my MacBook as my main machine and don't like the idea of carrying it around all the time, to and from university etc. so my iPad (once I've found a decent case) will cover me for word processing, presentations, small graphic work, portfolio etc.

Now, if I wanted a smaller tablet, I'd probably go for the Nexus 7. Having an Android phone already means I have my apps already. I'd use that for books, games, films etc when travelling. Plus I'm betting it will be cheaper than the iPad 'Mini'. Could be wrong, though.

My current iPad has totally replaced my Netbook + Laptop, and I use it everyday.

Though I would more than likely buy a 7'' iPad, which would be used to take to meetings and when I'm in the office, plus would be a perfect compact size to take about when campaigning/ canvassing out on the streets. I often feel that the current iPad is just too big for things like this, I'd rather a smaller device, yet one which is bigger and more comfortable to use over longer periods of time than my iPhone 4.

It's something I've been asking myself for the last couple of days. Would I want to go down from 9.7 to something smaller with (if the rumors are true) no retina display?

I don't think so. I read a lot of magazines and news on my iPad and I watch a lot of video on the train. If I want small and compact, I just bring my iPhone. Since I have pretty much replaced my laptop with my iPad, I don't see a reason to shrink it.

Also--I just shudder to think what it would be like to go back to non-retina. The iPad retina display is the killer feature for me.

I love the size of the current iPad, but I could see buying the iPad mini for my kids, depending on the price. I bought my daughter an 8 gb touch last year, but there really is not enough memory. So, it would have to be at least 16gb. The most I would be willing to pay would be $299 list.

I have a kindle fire which I used while I was waiting for the new iPad to come out. It was nice that I could easily fit it in my purse, but I really prefer the larger size.

Not a chance. I like the size of the current screen and wouldn't want anything smaller. That said, I hope they're working on slimming down the iPad. Reducing the size of the bezel would be nice too.
