If the iPhone 5 has no "WOW Factor".....

That's stupid obviously, sure they could.

But I remember when people want phones to be as small as possible and I still think that is a good idea, if I want a huge screen I can buy a Fire or iPad mini.

Anyway, for me the WOW Factor is in the build quality (which was excellent in 4/4S already in contrast to 3G/3GS) - but again you can say that is only what they want to make us believe.

Mate I completely agree.

That design is incredible, I'd love that for the iPhone.

I'm generally quite happy with the iPhone 5, even if it lacks the wow factor. I think it will be very "functional" and let's face it, the shiny toy aspect of phones disappears after a couple of weeks anyway.
 
it is awesome reading all these responses of guys being totally disappointed with the new iphone. After checking the posts the result is that most are just pissed that there is no redesign and not an even bigger screen. The only other feature missing that most guys can name is the LED notification light and I give you that it would be a nice feature to have.
Other than that it seems that they did pretty good since design is subjective and not everyone (including me) wants an even bigger screen.

How does external storage limit that or enable that? You're talking nonsense. My entire MP3 collection is from another source. Try again.

Agreed, but IIRC it was just late last year that they started producting a single 128GB flash chip and the iPhone only takes a single flash chip so I suspect they are just not available yet in large enough quantity (or price or power) to make it feasible yet.

Correct. The distance you neeed to be from even a large HD screen to see 1080p is a whole lot closer then you would think it would be.

Can I ask you what is the WOW factor for you? Coming from iphone 3g to Iphone 4 I was WOW'd!!! A longer iphone 4 got me interested, had a look at the pics etc, but far from WOW! I just confirmed that tech has moved on in two years, but alas, ideas have not.

Thank you, very well stated. Nobody will be able to tell the difference between 720P and 640 on a 4" screen. Arguing for it is just chasing after numbers for the sake of having them. It's like adding a loud exhaust to your car....makes more noise, but is it there any usable power gain? Nope.

There is, ou know the adapter to the 30 pin connecter that allows you to insert a camera memory to see themphotos on the ipad/iphone? Its that same one but was cydia you could use it as storage.

lol, i dont work for apple, but I do own an iphone 4 and own a few hundred shares of apple stock that i purchassed around $40 a share. So, as an investor in the comapny, I sit here and read all this "non wow factor garbage" about the iphone 5 and I cant help to wonder what sort of expectations people who are bashing the phone had. Are the haters exactly that, haters? Will the phone and the company do very well or will it be a dud?

To be honest, it seems like the people who were not "wow'ed" were expecting the iphone to not only be a mini computer / phone, but perhpas they expected apple to invent a time machine and integrate it into their phone as well. What else can be put into a phone that would wow people? If the phone gets much bigger, it will be a mini-tablet, how many other features can a phone / mini computer get....I dont know, but I was just curious what the phone was lacking for all those who are not "wow'ed".

So that killed the second point I listed which I was already questioning myself. But the rest of it stands.

Depends on the set up. Just a muffler or even a cat back, perhaps not. However a header on back or a downpipe on back for boosted cars, yes, you will see a gain. ;)

Not everyone wants a wider display. I would've skipped iPhone 5 and 5s. =P
I find anything wider than the RAZR M hard to use. Either too small or too big.

HD display, you'd either have to squeeze more pixels in the current dimensions or increase width. Squeezing more pixels would be pointless investment, for now. And 326ppi is far more pixels than your eyes can decipher. So what difference would it make if they squeezed more pixels?
Plus, think about this..if you watch a lot of movies on your iPhone, you'll probably-maybe buy an iPad. More money for Apple, and which company doesn't like selling its products and earning some money? Every company in the world.

SD slot will never come to an iOS device unless Apple releases their own storage drives, which will be costlier (or end up making the base more smaller) than the $100 bucks you spend for the next level of disk space. Mainly because, as Gecotech said:
"1) Speed of external storage is much slower
2) File system - Apple would have to update their file system to mount external storage (I'm not an expert on this but think I read it somewhere long ago)"


Although, one thing I am disappointed at is the fact that the camera remained the same. Was hoping for a 10MP. But glad they updated the front facing one.

EDIT: And a higher capacity, with 128GB being the highest. =/

a 4.8 inch display? I would advise you to get a tablet... or a television. It's a cell phone dude.

That's the one thing I don't understand. Everybody always talks megapixel, be it on a phone, a compact camera or an SLR. But they don't mean anything. It's a bit like the retina display, once you get to a certain value it's all the same. With my phone I take snapshots, my SLR has just as many pixel, and the pictures are worlds apart. It's the lens and the options (focal lengths and aperture mostly for me) that make a camera, not the pixel.

Well I like to take pictures, but I don't always (Like 5% of the time) carry my DLSR with me. So, sometimes there are events that just take place, and you're left with your phone. So you'd want a higher megapixel camera so that you can take a great shot and then have it printed afterwards. I'm sure you understand all that. One of my best picture ever is taken on my iPhone 4, and I really wanted to get a large print, but, it started to get distorted. =/

I get that they might have had trouble making a lot of pixels fit in the sensor, but still, it's the camera I have with me, and I'd like to have more detail on my images.

On an SLR, I would understand that more pixels don't mean much. Cause they have a good sensor to begin with.
