One of my other issues, which may be strange to some, I did my 6S on a 24 month payment plan. If I don't upgrade my cost / month will go down but then when I would upgrade a year or ?? it would seem as if I'm paying a lot more. Won't be the only reason but I'd sore of like to keep costs similar and not go down and then back up again.

There's no doubt about it, a 4th year of looking pretty much the same isn't appealing at all. But at the same time, I'm not going to look for another phone just because of the design if it has the features I want.

Features likely develop with the maturity of iOS and what changes the hardware bring. So that is variable and likely to offer something new every year. Take 3D Touch for example, that was new technology that was implemented into the iPhone 6s over the iPhone 6. It was incremental, but still Was something new if you will.

I'm not concerned with what features will come about, because that will happen one way or the other. What I do want to see Apple do, is bring the appropriate changes with the form factor. It's just time to get away from the redundant physical form factor and start revamping the iPhone, because the competition has made some nice strides recently in their redesigns. (Which I will prefer iOS regardless.)

I already upgraded to the Galaxy S8 from my iPhone 7. So the only upgrade I want next is a bezel-less Touch ID in display iPhone. An iPhone 7S wouldn't do anything for me. I've got wireless charging which i dont use anyway.

My best guess would be a 7S and 7S plus with the same body as the 7 with an iPhone edition launched at the same time with all the new tech and styling. 8 and 8 plus would then follow in 2018 with the same look as the edition model.

That's my guess too.
And if "edition" will launch at an higher price I may wait until next year and buy the S version of the new model, hopefully at the standard price.

I think we're very likely to get a new design this year. The question is what features will change and what happens to Touch ID. I can't see Apple leaving the current design for its flagship phone any longer. Maybe relegated to the SE level but not as the current top model.

One feature I think we will see with the iPhone this year that has grown in popularity with the 9.7 iPad Pro, is Tru-tone display. I think that's going to make its way into the iPhone line and has its advantages when used in various environments.

Which will adapt to the color and intensity of the display matching the lighting conditions.

I'm on the 6 which is a great phone. Wanted to upgrade to the 7 but missed the early deals so now
I'll just wait for whats next. Almost upgraded to the 7 a bunch of times..the 7 is great but would I like
the phone being the size of the 7 but it's display having the same size as the plus? Hells Yeah!

I can't see Apple releasing a higher priced Edition/X model this year and then reducing the price of the equivalent next year. Doesn't really make sense.

It really depends on the features the 7s offers. I do want to get the plus model, but I'm currently content with my 7 and SE at the moment, so if nothing earth shattering was announced by Apple, I would stick with my current devices.

I would agree. I think this hopefully will be the year we are going to see some changes finally altering the appearance. Rather the changes be accepted or not by many, I will accept any changes at this for the next iPhone metamorphosis.

How much different can it look? Gone are the days of *gasp* phone's actually having a distinctive appearance. Pretty soon all bezels, home buttons and 3.5mm jacks will be gone and all we'll be left with is a 5+ inch screen.

As someone who buys sim-free so I can upgrade whenever I please, there is a strong possibility I will buy the 8 partly just because I'm already bored of my 7. If it is to the 7 what the 7 was to the 6S though there's no chance. Smaller bezels isn't enough, revamp iOS too.

Maybe

Things that will make me consider upgrade from my 6S+ to a 7S+

A11 processor with 3GB of RAM
A S IPhone feature(bring something new Apple)

I think they're going to keep their standard prices even this year with a 7s model.
Next year hopefully all their line up will be bezel free, so at current iPhone 7 price we'll have something similar to this year edition. Then, if they keep selling an "edition" model every year they'll add some features to that model only.

2018 I expect to be a year that the iPhone lineup will be all OLED across the board, without any production issues with OLED . And I would also imagine at some point, the iPhone SE will see an update and or a refresh as well. I think this year will be three models, two of which will still be LED with the current form factor and minor physical improvements, followed by the larger 5.8 OLED being the new form factor.

The outer dimension is as important, the 7 has excellent dimension and if the new 8 and future iphones will be borderless, the 7 can house in a bezel free oled screen up to 5.8, the 7 plus dimension is guaranteed to hold anything up to 6.5'. But the 7 plus is a little hard to hold in one hand. For me 5.2 screen is perfect. Some of you like it larger. Since apple will make few sizes screens. May be the 5.2 would be the smaller among the family outside the SE model.

One handed use with the iPhone 7 Plus is very difficult. There initially was a rumor about a 5.1 inch iPhone that could've debuted in the fall, but that was phased out months ago. I think a 5.1 inch iPhone would've been a nice median for a lot of users. But then again, I don't think iPhone 4.7 would stay in existence and would have skewed iPhone line with a possible of four different models. As it stands now, it would be a 4.0, 4.7, 5.5 and allegedly a 5.8.

With the OLED redesigns they're not making the physical sizes smaller, unfortunately. I thought that would have been a great opportunity for them to do so.

This is the first rumor they have had recently about next year's (2019) display sizes (https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ay-sizes-in-2018.2046854/page-2#post-24601220), however I remember previous rumors providing similar numbers, so that's definitely what will happen.

4.7 inch iPhone will be phased out, same physical case size, but 5.3 inch display. Plus model will have the same physical case size, but increased display size of 6.5. SE model may get a display update to 4.3" or so, if I remember correctly from previous rumors.

Personally I think Apple should stop concentrating on their hardware designs and concentrate on their cloud/software designs. Imagine if iCloud had the power of Google/Microsoft they would be unstoppable. I think at some point the hardware is going to peak. Let it remain the same for a time until new technology arrises but concentrate on the software.

My prediction for 2017 IPhone :
Iphone 7S -4.7 inch
Iphone 7S+- 5.5 inch
Iphone 7S ( Premium edition ) - 5.8 inch display, OLED

Agreed. I read that rumor. I think the 4.7 iPhone is the perfect size for some, but I could see Apple retaining the iPhone SE as it stands, maybe rounded edges with reduced bezels with a slightly larger display.

I agree with your size factor line up. The naming you have currently for the iPhone I do not believe it will be labeled the 7s. I think it Might be labeled the iPhone 8 and the larger OLED model will have some name to differentiate it from the smaller models.
