Yeah like I live a half an hour drive from Hilton Head (Savannah) and Hilton Head has LTE. I've got a good feeling Savannah won't make any sudden appearences on where LTE will be coming. LTE for me just isn't worth it.

Great.

What could you possibly need 12Mbps to 52Mbps for on a phone?

Come on man.

I know we all want the iphone to be the best, but don't start the rationalization game.

We all know that faster data speeds on phones is one of the most important things. Why else would AT&T users put down the Verizon 3G network?

Its all about speed. Downloading websites, viewing videos, etc. If it was instant vs waiting for it to load, thats a big deal and you know it.

Won't run any faster because your processor is slowing you down. It's like driving a toyota (3g) and ferrari (LTE) in traffic. They both go the same speed for web browsing.

But the Ferrari you look good doing it and you get a piece of mind of being part of something exclusive.

With LTE it's good for streaming netflix and high quality videos, maps and online gaming, and tethering.........

Right? You must live in a small town. I am in Southern California, I travel to Dallas Fort Worth 2 to 3 times a month, BothVZW LTE areas. And the LTE is FAST! I can get anywhere from 12Mbps to 52Mbps in Both Dallas and Los Angeles depending on time of day.

How fast is your att iphone getting LOL! :D

Your epeen must be huge.
Compensation?

Those who try to say 4G LTE is not a big jump are kidding themselves. The average review of these VZW LTE phones has them averaging over 10Mbps downloads. That's better than many wifi offerings!

To make it sound only marginally better than 3G (which someone said above) is a complete joke. Apple will be behind the times as far as mobile tech goes until they release an LTE device. All the manufacturers are beginning to release their LTE devices, and Apple will likely be the last.

When you add to this equation the fact that VZW is about to switch to tiered pricing, it makes sense to take the LTE leap soon (before summer is up) so that one can lock oneself into unlimited data while its still available. Even if you have unlimited 3G, they might not let that transfer to unlimited 4G. (though we just don't know...)

So same web browsing speed but worse battery life just to show off something that isn't even tangible? Be my guest.

I don't know about you but 3g with good connection does pretty much all that you've mentioned just fine.

Read my analogy above. You're clueless.

I don't even care about LTE. I just got 3G coverage where I live, and it's fast enough for me compared to EDGE that I had been using for the last 3 years.

I can appreciate the desire to want LTE. My 3G coverage in Dallas is solid, but I'm so used to using wifi, it makes 3G look like dial up. So I'm used to not using data while I'm out unless I have to. And even then, I always look for a wifi connection.

Maybe with LTE that'll change. But I do see the carriers using that as an excuse to charge more, for less.

While I like having the latest in technology, LTE is not among those. I am perfectly fine with my iPhone 4 on AT&T's 3G network as it stands right now. I am more interested in what iOS 5 will bring than when Apple will introduce a LTE capable iPhone.

People upgrade their technology everyday for only marginal upgrades in speed. Look at the jump from intel's first generation Core processors to second generation. For most of your everyday tasks, the jump is only marginal at best. However, the jump from 3G to 4G LTE, especially for VZW users, is a monumental jump. A phone like the Droid Charge is said to last over one day with typical usage. That's just as good if not better than most 3G smartphones on the market right now.

You're basically saying that the ONE downside (decreased battery life) makes the monumental increase in speed not worth it. For some, I'm sure you're right. But that does not apply to all. Sometimes you have to make small compromises in order to have a specific product (see: MBA or any 'closed' iOS product).

And there is a big difference between a 3G product doing a task "just fine" and a 4G LTE product doing the same task exceptionally fast.

Ok, maybe for the people that only stream high def movies, they can skip to a part faster. For those who browse/do maps, whatever, as long as the 3g speeds aren't slow, you won't notice a difference LTE/3g.

For example, try using a slow netbook or something connected to 3mbps and a 20+ mbps wifi and try loading a webpage. They'll be the same speed.

3g vs LTE is just good marketing. Just like how manufacturers get us thinking that we always need more megapixels for cameras......

There might be a 12 step program for that. You should consider it. if you are jonesing for tech you are in a losing proposition already. Before it comes out in the marketplace it is already obsolete technologically.

I have apple because I like apple the company. I like the apple phone. I like the ipad. I like the desktop computer iMac. Thats why I have them. The imac is 4 years old and works amazingly well. I do not want to get new just because it's new.

That will make a pauper out of you and you will never be happy until you learn to appreciate what you have and keep it long enough to appreciate it.

That was probably the most beautiful lines I have ever heard from an apple fan. And I completely 100% agree.

Same here. Awesome post mate! ;)

If these carriers are limiting your usages, what the heck is the point of LTE? It's like you are driving a Ferrari, but you have no gas in your car.

Carriers will make people to give up their unlimited data plans. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but they will force users to abandon their unlimited data plans.

Good luck with your LTE 5-12 Mbps plan. Enjoy your 2-5 GB limit.

Why do you need LTE? It's no fundamental paradigm shift in mobile technology - just a faster version of what's already in your iPhone 4. The 4G tag is a misnomer.

Given that most networks can't provide the bandwidth to backup the existing 7.2mbps modems over here I doubt ramping up the network speed would help any.
Agreed. Same concept with wifi they are rated for 54Mbps (G) or 108+ (N) but your never going to see that in real practice for a variety of reasons of which I'm sure people already know. LTE is cool and the 700Mhz part is really the highlight of my interest as I can bet if it says 4G LTE on my phone for now at least I know I won't have trouble with in building coverage, not that 850 or 900Mhz is bad or anything but I'm sure 700 is great. Curious about capacity issues with 700Mhz though. Either way the more people burning out LTE the less on EvDO or HSPA so I can possibly enjoy that better :)

How fast is your att iphone getting LOL! :D
Probably faster than your phone when its on EvDO 90% of the time. But say it again your self confidence might go up a tad.

Great.

What could you possibly need 12Mbps to 52Mbps for on a phone?
I'm not sure. Its cool and all but I do basic browsing. No biggy. And when I do watch YouTube itll admit its slow but I don't need 52Mbps...

As said i am usually in Somewhere in LA or Dallas Fort Worth and my phone stays in LTE, even if i drive to Vegas from LA 90 percent of the drive is in LTE!
I really don't see CDMA too much anymore..............

In reality, there should be an LTE iPhone announced at WWDC, with availability in 2-3 weeks. Even then they would be slightly behind the curve, but at least it wouldn't be a blowout like it is now.

All the signs indicate that it's not going to happen, so better hide all the sharp implements at your place...

My contract is up this year, I'm a tech junkie and don't like holding on to tech for too long. I just don't know if I can last another year on my IP4 and I really don't want to lock into another 2 year plan without a 4G phone. I really banking on this LTE thing.

Would anyone else switch to an Android phone just for one cycle until Apple gets their wits and comes out with an LTE phone?

I know, it's crazy. I hate Android, but I feel the need to have LTE. Anyone else?

I don't care about LTE to be honest. The speeds loading Twitter, facebook, loading weather, checking email on the phone aren't going to be that much different if I'm on 3G or 4G to be honest. I'd probably notice it only when I'm tethering ... which I don't do.

If you really want 4G, then you should go for it right now

Amen to that! Same story for me. Don't care about LTE, and battery capacity has not caught up with the increased power consumption. Apple is not going to release anything without continuing to guarantee 10 hours of battery life at least. That is one of the last big selling points they still have over their competitors.

WIFI more then sufficient. And what do you really need that fast speed for on a MOBILE phone that you shouldn't just do on your laptop/desktop?

Everything today is to be bigger and faster. Will, the bigger it is, the harder to go faster too due to your own weight slowing you down.

iOS and Windows and the govt have that problem, just keeps getting bigger and bigger, and therefore more inefficient.
