sorry

Don't tell that to the people in the "Alternatives to iOS and iOS Devices" forum... you'll get eaten alive.

Why would you be in alternative iOS OS section on a mac rumors/fan site? lol. That's like the morons in the politics section who only post there and in no other sections.

if that is truly what you believe, I do not know what to say. They have announced IOS6 and features...probably the single most important piece of a phone these days...software! We have 5 other generations of iphones to go off of. Most of us own other apple products. I am assured a quality product that is top of the line and syncs with all of my devices.

If you really feel you have no idea what you are getting, I cannot even begin to entertain you with this conversation. Oh and past rumors with leaked parts have been 100% accurate 100% of the time.
iPhone 3GS was rumoured to have a matte finish - even the back cover was leaked. In the end, it was glossy like the 3G.

iOS 6 will be available on the iPhone 4S as well.

I think it's dumb and stupid if you pull out 600-800 dollar (possibly even thousands over the course of two years when you get it with a carrier) for a 'mystery product'.

I do believe the next-gen iPhone will be better, but I would never give them 800 dollars before they actually announced and showed it.

I would rather pre-order and have it on launch day and then if I did not like it, return it. Sucks wanting it on launch day and having to wait. Based on the poll more people feel this way than not.

I would never preorder something without knowing for sure what it is. Being a working college student, I don't exactly have a plethora of money to throw around at mystery products.

Neither. I can't decide. Make an "I don't know" option. Probably wouldn't buy it though since I don't have the money ATM and my 4S is just fine.

You know what else sucks? That you'd rather spend 800 dollars on an unknown device, than to help an African family who have barely anything to eat for over a full year.

Expected response from you: "Why won't you donate 800 dollars so you can help an African family to eat for over a full year?"

Answer you can expect from me: "I'm an egoistic bastard. That doesn't mean I don't feel sorry for them (after all, I'm lucky to be born in a rich, wealthy country), but it simply means that - for some reason, somehow - I don't care enough to donate a lot of money to people I don't know and to people I'll probably never meet."

Nothing wrong with wanting something, and buying something expensive. It's just... odd... how you are willing to pay so much money for a product that has not been announced yet just so you can have it on launch day and (probably) show it off just for the sake of showing off.

If anything, you'd expect that anyone with common sense would at least want to know some facts about the device.

I think we have seen enough leaks to know what it looks like
And it is pretty certain the specs would be as good or better than the 4s
So most who are already set on buying would go ahead and get on the train and not risk waiting a month or more for a back order

Any other product I would say no, but having been a long-term iPhone owner and based on what MacDawg has said above, I say yes.

Edit: Oh, and I LOVE the gun metal 2-tone look.

----------

You don't even know what the device looks like. For all we know, this (the leaks) is a new iPod touch design.

So they're going to make the Touch thicker? Yeah...don't think so.

I'd bet a paycheck on it at this point. The preponderance of evidence is overwhelming.

again, I cannot even entertain this conversation b.c you are clearly closed minded to the idea. It is not like I am blindly buying a product that I have zero knowledge about or expectation as to what I will get. I would do the same thing with a new appletv or mac.

oh and about the first part....I really do not care about people in another country =/

I'm sorry, but that's not the best argument I've ever heard. So not only you are willing to blindly buy a new iPhone without knowing what it looks like (rumours and leaks aren't always correct) and what it can do, but you say it's alright because do the same for Macs and the Apple TV?

oh and about the first part....I really do not care about people in another country =/
Yet you're in an argument with me - someone who is most likely from another country. You say you can't 'entertain this conversation' and that you do not care about others, but here you are in an argument with me.

All I'm saying is that it is stupid to decide to give a company 800 dollars without knowing when the product is released, what the product will look like (even though there is speculation about it) and what new features it will offer.

What an odd response and argument
I 100% agree.

Who said that? I myself have actually been to an African refugee camp to do some work....and still own an iPhone. I don't think the 2 are mutually exclusive.

That would be true if we had never seen a single iPhone before. But after 5 generations of iPhones, we have a certain amount of assurance of how the product will work and what the quality level will be. The appearance is really not that important.

thank you. I really do not understand how he does not comprehend what I am trying to say. We are not buying a totally new product, we are buying something with a HISTORY. There is the word that will hopefully bridge the gap....HISTORY, something that is a good gauge for the future.....history 101.

Yeah, but in the completely preposterous scenario proposed in the original post something very different is happening - the completely preposterous scenario. In this fictitious world Apple has apparently changed radically and is now offering for sale something about which they are telling you nothing. Who's to say, in this weird and extremely unlikely world, that past Apple products are a reasonable guide to new products. Perhaps the new iPhone is made of cheese, that's about as likely as what the OP proposes. :)

are we talking swiss, pepperjack, gouda...

lololol more people would blindly preorder something not knowing what it is because of who makes it.

suhweeet.

everyone was so sure that last year, the new iphone would have a quadcore chip, lte, and 1gb of ram bigger screen etc.. yet we were so wrong.

i know there is more part leaks this year.. but still.

I guess another thing to seriously consider, personally, is when was the last time apple let you down? I feel like all of their products that get an upgrade are worth the upgrade.
