WooooooooooooooW!

I'll wait until September when I'm eligible for an upgrade on one of my phones on my family plan. NO way I'm spending that much RIGHT now.

uh, according to this site the prices will be:

"The iPhone 3Gs is $199 for 16GB and $299 for a new 32GB version. It's coming on June 19th, including to the UK.

The old iPhone 3G will be available at $99."

did u read the title...the prices u state are only available to pl who are eligible for upgrade. This thread talks about the price for people who arent eligible for upgrade

THese are only if you are due for an upgrade.

If you want to upgrade early, you have to pay the 599 and 699.

If you go through the get started process on the iPhone site it shows this on selecting the rate plan:

Review iPhone pricing.

As a valued AT&T customer, AT&T can offer you an early iPhone upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee. You may qualify for a standard iPhone upgrade on 03/12/2010.

* $299.00* — 8GB iPhone 3G (black)
* $399.00* — 16GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)
* $499.00* — 32GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)

AT&T

What about this scenario:

You just bought a 3G 15 days ago. They give you 30 days to return it. The 3GS comes out on June 18th. That is still less than 30 days....

Do you think I should:

A) Return the phone this instant. Get charged the restocking fee, giged the activation fee, and have to gp through the whole process again on June 18th.

B) Keep the phone until the 18th and see if there are any special circumstances for idiots like me who Googled "new iphone 2009" after they bought it. Perhaps I can simply swap the 8GB 3G for the 16GB 3GS at the same price/contract term

In any event, shouldn't I at least be able to get $100 back now that the 3G is $99?

Clearly I'm not as "valued" a customer as you are... f*ck at&t.

LOL @ people thinking they deserve different treatment under AT&T's upgrade rules simply because they own an iPhone.

What's the big deal? These aren't iPods, these are cell phones. They get subsidized when you start a new contract. The low price point is suppose to draw in new customers, why would a company extend that price to customers that are already locked into a contract?

It's the same old story with any other company. Take RIM for example. Just because you're a blackberry curve user doesn't mean you're entitled to a subsidized price for a new curve or a new bold.

If iPhone 3G users were eligible for the new contract pricing who is stop them from buying the iPhone 3G and then upgrading to a iPhone 3GS a week later?

Do you think Verizon is going to let people who bought the Blackberry Storm buy a Blackberry Storm 2 for the "new" pricing"? Or T-Mobile let people who just bought the T-Mobile G1 get the G2 for "new" pricing? Or will Sprint sell someone who just bought an Instinct 6 months ago a Pre for the new pricing?

Heres what AT&T is giving me if i choose to upgrade before 7/13/09
Obviously wouldn't make much sense to do

That's actually what is going on with me right now. I bought it May 28th. I got it to replace a phone I had since it broke.

You know, I still have a 2G and I chose last summer to wait because I thought the 3G wasn't that much of an upgrade. So all of you guys who are whining, you have less than a year old phone, maybe even less than 6months. This is the price you pya for upgrading technology: eventually, you can't afford to upgrade it so quickly anymore. I will probably buy the new one now, and understand fully that I will have that phone for 18 months, minimum, as well as a 2-yr contract. Next year, when the thing is as thin as the Touch, has a front video camera, and a 10MP camera, I'm sure I'll be wishing I could have it, but I'll be happy knowing that I was happy when I bought the 3GS.
Same goes for the MBP I just bought at the end of March: yes, the new/better battery, screen, and SD slot is something I really wanted in this sucker, but I am REALLY happy I got the MBP when I did, and I love this thing.

Exactly Eso, and I remember all the people selling their 3G's for $400.00 thinking it would cover the cost of their upgrade...

So funny! Especially those claiming that I, and others like me, didn't know what we were talking about when it came to upgrading the iPhone!

FIRST-GEN iPhone owners whose 2-year contracts have expired can be eligible to upgrade for only $199/$299, I believe.

For that price I can go buy a nice compass and a HD camcorder at Best buy. Maybe even have enough to pick up a Palm Pre. ATT is very turdy!! and I don't like turds!! :mad:

LOL @ people thinking they deserve different treatment under AT&T's upgrade rules simply because they own an iPhone.

I bought my Blackberry Bold to replace my broken iPhone and I paid $650, but I didnt have to sign a new contract. Something is fishy here.

I'd say we'll see a lot of people canceling their AT&T contracts for the prorated ETF price which will still make it about $200-300 cheaper than the full retail price. The only downside is that you would lose your number :(.
