Jeff Buckley - a genius of songwriting, performance and also had arguably the best voice in rock music. Grace was such an incredible album, and I'm sure a complete follow up would be equally, if not more amazing.

Wow.. too many that I'm really thinking of.. and it's kinda sad.. :/

Anyway.. Paul Hester. I would have loved to see Split Enz and Crowded House play live. I still can for Crowded House, but I don't know how they are with their new drummer..

BL.

If I could bring back just one Dead Rock Guy, it would definitely be Hendrix. I think we only saw hints of his true potential in his too-short career. The silly psychedelia doesn't really reflect the depth of his talent, in my O, and it's a crying shame that we never got to hear him as a mature artist.

Tough call on Freddie Mercury, though. Dude was an amazing, amazing performer and easily one of the best singers pop music has ever produced. His was a relatively long and full career, though, and I don't get the sense of wasted potential that I do with Hendrix.

Jim Morrison, on the other hand, did not die soon enough.

Freddie Mercury, hands down.

Queen are my favorite band and as others have said, Freddie was one of the greatest performers/singers in history. THE best, IMO. He kept right on working until like a month before he died, too. He had a lot left in him.

R.I.P., Freddie.

As states earlier in this thread, I agree with you.

I was thinking about this after I posted, but if Freddie had not died then would we have the current incarnation of Queen + Paul Rodgers? I was never lucky enough (or born earlier enough) to see Queen live and there was every possibility that Queen would have split in the 90's and they would not be performing now.

Now I know what people think about the Queen + Paul Rodgers debate but I think they are great. Paul Rodgers has a fantastic voice and adds a different dimension to some great Queen classics, plus some of his own work is great.

Queen + Paul Rodgers ain't Queen, but it comes a close second.

Are you going to any of the shows later this year?

Freddie Mercury

Bob Marley

Jerry Garcia

John Lennon

Barry White :D

No to Kurt Cobain, he killed himself, to me that should exclude him. Similar reasons for Jim Morrison, Janis and Jimmy - whilst I love their music they sort of squandered their mortality.

Many good choices have already been listed. Tough to say.

For me, I think the King (Elvis)

I would like to hear how his music would have changed over time.

Seems to me you just have something against rock stars who were 27 when they died :D

I thought of that too ["I'm hating on the 27 club"] but as much as I understand drugging up and 'enjoying' life as it comes, it sort of leaves a bitter taste in my mouth that they 'wasted' their talents... at least in terms of theoretically brining them back.
</took this too seriously :p>

Oh... If their next album is as regrettable as their last album...

Cliff Burton. Trujillo and Newsted are great, but a lack of a bassist clearly showed in Metallica's St. Anger.

BL.

Regardless of the new album's quality I'd still say resurrect Cliff Burton. Cliff brought so much more to the band than just bass skills and the balance and direction in the band forever shifted after he died.

Some might suggest that's exactly what Freddie did do though.

Good point, maybe it just seems different in my mind for him having to suffer a long painful death whilst he still seemed to really give it his all on stage. <shrug> ('the show must go on' attitude)
