If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

My list might not be all rock;)

Bob Marley......He speaks the truth
2Pac.....When he wasn't angry he couldn't be matched.
Janis Joplin....Loved her voice

Bless

*goes off to add some blind melon to the shuffle*

edit: i'd also like to add roy orbison – a very  cat indeed.

If I only had one vote it would be for the two guys that didn't survive the plane crash.

Ronnie Van Zant
Steve Gaines

...too early for them to go.

Katie Reider

Katie Reider

In retrospect, I see that my post was scarcely more than one word. I apologize.

Please give a listen to Katie's music. You can find it on iTMS.

Most of the guys in her basically killed themselves so I my view that doesnt count, baceause they had a shot and wasted it...

So I still Think Randy Rhoads is a tragedy in the same level as SRV and john Lennon comes to mind.

Randy comes first because he only had one shot at recording his amazing talent as a musician... the other actually have tons of records

As states earlier in this thread, I agree with you.

I was thinking about this after I posted, but if Freddie had not died then would we have the current incarnation of Queen + Paul Rodgers? I was never lucky enough (or born earlier enough) to see Queen live and there was every possibility that Queen would have split in the 90's and they would not be performing now.

Now I know what people think about the Queen + Paul Rodgers debate but I think they are great. Paul Rodgers has a fantastic voice and adds a different dimension to some great Queen classics, plus some of his own work is great.

Queen + Paul Rodgers ain't Queen, but it comes a close second.

Are you going to any of the shows later this year?

As far as Queen breaking up, I doubt they would have. As most Queen fans know, they did have their share of arguments, but I've heard them say that it only made them stronger as a group and that as long as people kept buying their music, they would keep making it.

I bought "Return Of The Champions" on iTunes and I think Paul does a pretty good job on the Queen songs, but it's just weird to me to hear someone other than Freddie singing them. I actually just got into Queen recently (but I do have almost all of their albums already. I'm addicted.) I was never really into Bad Company, but my Mom was and she thought it was really cool that Paul was working with Queen now.

I am definitely curious to see what the new album will sound like. I love "Say It's Not True" and "C-lebrity." I think I'll like him on the new material better than on the older Queen songs.

Sorry to hijack the thread. Big Queen fan here.

Duff-Man says...none of them - it'd only spoil the illusion. Most would only have trod downhill anyway and others were probably overrated due to their early deaths anyway - Jeff Buckley is a prime example as far as I am concerned - if his last name was not Buckley and associated with another early death he'd have been ignored or forgotten from day one - easily one of the most over-hyped "artists" ever and his death was a great career move...oh yeah!

John Lennon, obviously :)

Besides him Johnny Cash, Nick Drake, Ian Curtis, Keith Moon just for the zest he added to life (or is that pharmaceuticals, I don't remember). Honourable mention to Cab Calloway too.

All those dead punk boys - love them to bits, but I can't help but think they went out how they should have done - dirty, young and tragic.

Jeff Buckley - the only song that I ever really hear played is Leonard Cohen's anyway, it's a great song and a great version, but Lenny does it best...

In general, thinking about it if it couldn't be John Lennon then I'd save the card for Cohen or Bowie. Possibly apply it now and return them to younger days...

Having heard Leonard recently he's singing better and generally all round is better than his younger days.

P.S. you not the most prolific poster are you.:)

I'm going to see him next weekend, I'm looking forward to it - a teensy bit of an understatement.

I'm probably not the least prolific either, I post a couple of things over a couple of weeks, then just read for a while. If I have something to add that no-one else has said, then I'll post. Everything in moderation, after all.

Just had a look at the results so far, John Lennon in third, John Bonham from Led Zepp in second and Elvis has the most votes at the moment.

I would've thought John Lennon would win this no problem? Freddie Mercury is in forth place, Hendrix is in fifth and Kurt Cobain in sixth.

With a lot of these, you really have to wonder how many of these deaths couldn't have been helped.. I mean, think about it...

Presley, Joplin, Morrison, Vicious, Slovak, Bonham, Scott, Hendrix, Clark, Entwistle, Denver.. all Drugs (I'm equating drinking with drugs; whether they are or not is another debate altogether! :) )

Hester, Cobain, Hoon.. suicide.

Those could have been helped, especially if someone were there to see the signs..

Rhoads, Vaughan, the Van Zants, Karen Carpenter, Mercury, Tupac, Lennon, Gaye, Roger Troutman, Dimebag, Harrison, and many more all couldn't have been helped. Those sick enough to kill them should have.. well.. I'll leave that to your imagination.. disease took Mercury (AIDS), Carpenter (bulimia), and Harrison (cancer).. most were just the common things that plague us all.. heart attacks (Orbison), old age (calloway, armstrong, Dizzie Gillespie, Bo Diddley, etc.), list goes on and on..

I guess my point is that some gave into their demons, whether they could control them or not. a lot didn't that we never had a chance to see, because we either were too young or not born.. I just couldn't equate some of them that threw what they had away to someone who did something with what they had, yet someone or some other thing took it away (like equating Cobain's work to Lennon's.. total BS).
