Windows Phone has an elegance that I'm not sure even iOS has. Of course, I've used only iOS since 2008.
I'm fascinated by Windows Phone as well. When it first came out it looked really ridiculous and thought Microsoft blew it, but then I played with the HTC Titan a month ago and since then I've been thinking that if Microsoft just adds more features than iOS and refines the interface some more to allow more information to be displayed at any given moment, it would be a better alternative to iOS than Android.

I am not usually an app freak, but when it comes to smartphones and making them more powerful to use, I still do need them. And this is where WP still lacks in. Apps like Pandora, ClickTheCity (Philippines app), Equibase (horse racing app), Sportacular, and Crackle is nowhere in the WP Marketplace. Neither is a decent Craigslist app or a hidden storage app to hide all the naughty photos/videos. Surprisingly, Android has those apps just like iOS. Even has an NBATV app that iOS doesn't have. If it comes to app development, it seems iOS will get it first. Then a few months later, Android will get it and sometimes even FREE. And then WP would get it even later or none at all. They are at the bottom of the totem poll since the installed base just isn't there yet for developers to waste their resources to a platform not alot of people have. To top it off, the WP Marketplace charges more for it while being released far too late.

If you want brains over beauty, go Android. More customization and functions.

If you want beauty over brains, go WP. More stable and silky smooth.

That's why it wasn't just so easy to say WP because Android is more practical even if it isn't as pretty, consistent, or stable. Where WP beats Android when it comes to apps is games since they have their own in-house developer and their sync with Xbox Live.

I am stilll looking into the Samsung Galaxy Note here in the Philippines. I can get it FREE with a 2000 peso postpaid data plan for the carrier SMART which translates to $45 U.S. dollars per month. That could become my mini-tablet and it is upgradeable to ICS and has a memory slot. I think if I sold my Focus to get a Lumia 900, I wouldn't see a huge difference with the exception of a better build quality and a front-facing camera. Windows Phone is fast enough for even single core 1GHz phones. At least the first Focus had a expandable memory slot. The thing with Android is it gives us more options. Unlike with WP. Once you own any Windows Phone, it is pretty much the same experience all across the board. Eventually, that gets stale too just like iPhone's same GUI since 2007. There is more danger with Android and its malware, but it can get adventurous if you can pick the right one and right customization and apps for you.

Windows Phone 7 is the only OS that is refined and polished as iOS. I'd definitely take it over Android.

No, not really IMO.
All you have to do is hold an HTC smartphone in one hand and a Samsung smartphone in the other to see that Samsung isn't using great materials for the exterior of their phones.

The only companies that REALLY make high quality feeling phones these days are Nokia and Apple. Google is going to be sorry that they didn't partner up with Nokia because while Samsung makes good internals, their handsets feel like toys.

I was thinking of upgrading my iPhone 3GS when the SIM-only contract runs out this summer.
If no major iPhone OS and Hardware upgrade, then I would probably go for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, should be a it cheaper to buy in a few months and will hopefully get OS updates for a few generations.
I'm not too keen on leaving the Apple ecosystem however, with all the Apps and integration with my iPad and Mac.

If for any reason I could no longer use my 4S or iOS, Id be onto the Nokia Lumia 900, it looks stunning, and I find the WP7 OS beautiful.

Before, Ive always felt Android looked too cartoony and cobbled together, (Not a fact, just my opinion of Android) when playing with high-end Android phones in stores, even they lagged and juddered simply navigating the homescreens, and this has always kept me away from it, to me it just felt unfinished, however more recent developments for Android have closed the gap in my eyes.

Android 4.0 for me feels like Android has finally "matured", and feels complete, unified, sophisticated. And I really like how it looks. I'd still go for WP7 in the end, but Android has made some real leaps and bounds in my eyes with 4.0

I wanted to make something with a comprehensive poll. The thread to end them all.

You know this pisses off the Apply fan boys. LOL! It reminds these people that they have REAL competition now.

I could, with ease, go to my SG2 but am really interested in the new Nokia ACE with Windows. I will get one the second one shows up on eBay

i already use iphone 2g but i would like to use iphone 4s and i really like and good apps

Why Windows? Wmobile is truly truly terrible...Honeycomb beats it into a pulp? Just asking?

If your talking about the "international league pass" app aka NBA.TV yes it is on ios app store but your not going to find it on the USA store :)

Wow. 34-34 deadheat as I type this. Just shows Android and Windows Phone each have their advantages and quirks. Trust me, I use both on a daily basis and neither one is perfect. It wasn't exactly a no brainer for me personally since I've uses both for months. But they both have their pluses that even surpass iOS. This is like Larry Bird vs Magic Johnson. Lakers vs Celtics. Today, I may like WP a tad more. Next week, I may change my mind and pick Android. Or you pick one and I pick the other. The gap isn't huge here. Like splitting hairs. I think WP is the better written OS, but my internet services revolves alot on Google. And you can personify it more to your liking while WP you can only change the theme color and such. You will grow tired of WP's same look the same way you will grow tired of Android's unstability and inconsistency.

You haven't used Windows Phone yet, and you don't even know the difference between a tablet OS and a phone OS.

I would begrudgingly go back to Android, but I wouldn't be happy about it. I've yet to see 4.0 in action, though.

I'm also very curious about WP7 and would not turn down the opportunity to use a 7.5 device. It appears to be crazy smooth and is becoming an excellent alternative to Android. But deep down, I think I like it because it would be all new to me, once the novelty wears off, that's where the true test would begin and who knows or not if I'd be craving to go back to iPhone or Android.

Every time tapatalk crashes on me in iOS diminishes the reason I use it over android. So I'd vote android I prefer the Linux based system for it power and openness most the time anyway.

I like how I can google search xxxy.apk and download an app from the phone off the web for free. Then if I like it buy it from the market.

I like how apps are cheaper and a lot of the time free since their isn't an apple tax.

I like a larger screen even though I have good eyes I get eye strain.

I like replaceable batteries and removable memory.

There is a lot I don't like too but for a geek like me I think it's a great alternative.

I'm going to say Windows Phone. I think. I'd definitely take it over pre-ICS Android. But now that Ice Cream Sandwich seems to have more or less fixed Android's ugliness problem (heck, Google even released some Human Interface Guidelines to ensure a certain degree of prettiness in Android apps), it's not quite such a simple choice for me. In any case I think Windows Phone and Ice Cream Sandwich are a lot prettier than iOS these days. If I were to go with Android, I'd get a Nexus phone - no carrier crapware, no customisations from the manufacturer - just pure Android (it also gets updates on time, too). If I were to go with Windows Phone, I'd probably get a Lumia 800; or, more likely, wait for the Lumia 900. What can I say? I'm a sucker for good design.
One of the biggest problems I have with Android is its security, or lack thereof. I'm sure Google will deal with that over time, but for the moment, it's really not a very secure OS. That said, the openness of the whole system does have some appeal for me.

All in all, I'm not 100% sure, but I'm probably leaning 75% Windows Phone and 25% Android. I'd probably have to play with them both in person at the same time to make a final decision. Either way I'd happily buy either of them over an iPhone, regardless of whether iOS existed or not.

I'm so tired of the app debate. That's a moot point most apple apps are over priced and Busch league. Looking at the featured apps there are tons of terrible games a couple stock market apps and that's it. I'm severely let down by the app store and much prefer androids market.

I partly blame apple since apps can't access the os functioning then you severe limit them. Android has some amazing battery saving apps, keyboard replacement apps, file manager apps, etc. Aside from brightness I can't adjust anything about my iPhones screen! Going from android to iPhone I was excited but it feels like a large step backward in time. My employer is paying for my phone and service and I still plan on shelling out the money for a different phone.

When people say a lot of apps don't even work its ALWAYS an app apple doesn't have because of their restrictions. It was never the case for me either everything alway work and just like my iPhone if it didn't I needed to uninstall and reinstall it.

Hmm might regret that rant... Lol

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 4.0.3; en-us; Xoom Build/IML77) AppleWebKit/534.30 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Safari/534.30)

Good poll. :)

I do expect Windows Phone 7 to do well as it's the most iOS like smartphone OS I've used for performance. As much as I prefer Android for personal use, I can see (and have experienced) the appeal of Windows Phone 7. I may have to jump on one of Nokia's Lumia phones soon.

We're very lucky to have the 3 platforms on offer. Things have definitely changed since my days as a Symbian S60/UIQ/Windows Mobile user.
