You know it isn't going to happening... On the other hand... a UMPC from china; hackintosh... 😇.

I know - it isn't a new device (i actually ha one vaio ux many years ago), and the OS is a older one...

You're probably right about a Mini OLED

Maybe a future version of the Lenovo Legion Y700 will have an OLED option?

I just want OLED -- so used to it on my phone and TVs -- everything looks very "meh" in comparison

The 120Hz OLED display on the iPad mini 8 should be a bigger delight.

For some, perhaps. I honestly have zero issues with my Mini 7's display. As I mentioned in previous posts, the contrast is excellent - blacks are black.

I suspect *if* Apple goes OLED on it there'll be a price increase. I have a feeling Apple won't change the display as the Mini is kind of an entry level iPad.

It looks like that: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interlaced_video ///but i think the GPU su**s. Maybe apple found out, that a change to a new display needs another GPU. And a new GPU needs a CPU plus new mainboard with more power; on and on... So they decided, fu** them, they buy it anyway...
This has nothing to do with the Soc IMO. It's purely on the display controller and panel side. There is also no relation to interlaced video. The "steps" in my photo are a function of the speed of scrolling.

Is there a technical reason why the iPad mini 5 either has no jelly scroll, or it wasn't a big enough issue like the mini 6? And if the mini 5 didn't have this, what caused the regression moving forward with the mini 6 and 7?
Try turning it to landscape. My understanding is that Apple moved the display controller to the landscape posiition in the iPad mini 6, which shifted jelly scrolling from landscape to portrait. I’ll bet it does have it but since nobody scrolls a mini in landscape, no one noticed it. Minis are generally used in portrait. Anytime it’s in landscape, it’s usually because the user is playing a game or watching a video, in which case there is no scrolling going on. I think this is why iFixit is baffled as to what Apple did to reduce it in the 7 since the display controller was not rotated back to the landscape position.

Anybody saying jelly scroll doesn’t exist is simply not sensitive to it.

Please define 'sensitive to it.' I think that's overused and an example of the weakening of personal fortitude. I am 'sensitive' to arsenic. That would kill me. I am 'sensitive' to bullets through my heart. That would kill me. Heck I am 'sensitive' to poison ivy because it causes a rash on my skin and irritation. But 'sensitive' to something that I can avoid by simply not looking for it? That's diluting the meaning of the word. Stop whining. Look away. it's as easy at that. Nothing is perfect. Not even a Lamborghini at $300 K. Ever tried to sit in one?

You are making a mountain out of a molehill. It's as simple as that. I would say if you don't like it, don't buy it, but the truth is you never were going to anyway and just want to complain on jelly rolling as validation.

Me? I don't look for it, and am enjoying my iPad mini 7. Love the form factor. Glad they kept the price down.

My guess is that Apple did something in software, not in hardware, to lessen the jelly scrolling effect. Moving the display controller to portrait transfers the jelly scrolling problem to landscape, but doesn’t do a thing to lessen it. It probably wouldn’t be noticed as much since minis are generally used in portrait so I am surprised Apple didn’t rotate it.

Apple probably did some synchonization via software using technology similar to GeSync or FreeSync, since jelly scrolling really is nothing more than screen tearing where the frames are being transmitted to the screen faster than the screen can handle it so the screen is technically showing half of the current frame and half of the previous frame. Basically that would mean slowing down the speed by which the graphics engine sends frames to the screen to no more than 60 fps.

Ok, if the jelly-problem can be somewhat fixed with software correction...I bet Siri is the villain here, that causes the jelly-ride 🙃
And I've had her turned off for a long time, on all my devices.

Saw it in Best Buy - it’s still a terrible screen because of the refresh rate. Maybe the jelly scrolling is better but that low refresh rate stutter is a show stopper.
The stutter is not so much due to the 60hz display but rather they’re using 30fps animations which is half of what the display is capable of. Go watch any 60fps content on YouTube and it has the “soap opera” effect….yet apples own animations don’t. It’s because they are , for whatever reason, limiting the frame rate of animations to 30fps On the standard iPad displays. Maybe to show such a stark difference for the pro motion displays. Hell even standard iPhones have smoother animations than the non-pro iPads. And iPads many years ago had smoother animations than they do today day. This is artificial limiting.

My Mini 7 doesn’t seem to have jelly scrolling, but it has spontaneously restarted about half a dozen times since I got it. Has anyone else experienced this?

I am very sensitive to PWM with OLED and also on the iPad mini 6 the jelly scrolling. My eyes are just sensitive to these items. I have had the iPad mini 7 since Friday and I don't see any issues with the 7 and jelly scrolling. And I agree with an earlier posting, the display seems a bit better in terms of contrast or clarity. It is hard to describe but the mini 6, with the jelly scroll, also had this non clarity/dullness to the panel. The 7 doesn't seem to exhibit that for me. They state it is the same panel, but it seems a bit better to me. To each their own as some are not sensitive to the PWM on OLED, but being sensitive to both, I can say the mini 7 is overall a good device. Should there have been more updates..that is a different discussion and yes I think some additional items would have made it great, but it's not horrid.

iPad: I don't think you're ready for this jelly.
I don't think you're ready for this,
'cause my body too bootylicious for ya, babe.

I've had the Mini 6 for years. I've never detected the jelly-scroll everyone seems up-in-arms about.

That's not to say people haven't, but I question if it's as widespread as people have made it out to be.

It's a form of gaslighting that some people use to justify taking a swing at Apple.

Wasn’t the horizontal orientation improved for jelly scrolling and vertical not?
Why did they only show and test vertical then?
Most people use iPads horizontally but the mini is ok vertical also just more so used horizontally.

It was a minor upgrade to a product people and users love, but probably doesn't move the needle much at apple. If we got a better screen and performance it would've been a game changer. Its a great device just with an underpowered screen and processor that didn't prove much with this upgrade. Tim Cook and the team blew this one😔
You might watch some YT videos benchmarking the 7. 8gb memory, 10GB USB, pencil pro, WiFi 6E. Macrumors hyperbole has become boring and laughable. Geeks just can‘t process not everyone gives a crap about stuff they nitpick and agonize over.

Mini 5 jelly-scrolls in landscape. Other 60Hz LCD iPads also jelly-scroll in landscape (Air, base iPad). The Mini 6’s screen implementation causes the refresh to be visible in portrait, this coupled with the Mini’s higher pixel density makes the effect more apparent to more people.
