That kind of insult to someone for basically wanting an improved product is what should warrant at least a warning. I've gotten warnings on Macrumors for much less than this, but to flat out slam someone for their hope of a better product? The mods removed all the MJ comments (thank god) but not this offensive drivel?

I suppose one could assume that anything short of blind faith towards apple should be thrown out, ridiculed and told to shut up and get off mac rumors?

Is the need or even want for a better iPhone not one of your priorities? Or would you prefer to see the market become stagnant and accept whatever Apple would like you to accept?

That said, you should reconsider telling someone to 'get the ****** off our site'. Its not your site, its public and its free. You have no business telling anyone what to do. Youre not a mod nor an admin.

Read the forum rules while youre at it.

The post said he (you) wanted the iPhone to "revolutionize" or he (you) was going to buy an Android. It did not say he/you would like an improved iPhone. Hence my statement.

Are you saying I insulted someone? Because I find that insulting. Did you refer to my post as drivel? I believe that is a "slam" on me, correct? So by your definition, would someone please reprimand this person?

Of course I'm kidding. Free speech is valued above most other things in my mind so feel free to call me what you want or describe my posts in any way you see fit. I don't get insulted by comments on an anonymous forum.

I stand corrected! Man he looked frail in those final years. RIP Steve.

Actually he was much better in 2010 than 2009... in the September 2009 iPod event he was even weaker than when he was in WWDC 2011.

His cancer started to attack him again in late 2010... c.f the "back to the Mac" event in late 2010.

This comment brought to you from the department of, "no, duh".

Why would you upgrade every year? The iPad to iPad2 was not a huge transition, nor was the iPhone4 to iPhone4s. But skipping a generation or two is worth while. Going from the the 3GS to the 4s is a pretty big jump, and the same will be true for the iPad3. Computers will get you a couple of generations before upgrades are required. iPhones and iPad will get their eventually but right now skipping a generation is about the right upgrade cycle.

Besides very obvious design change, internally iPad to iPad 2 was a huge transition.

It's like from the 3GS to 4S.

The original iPad uses the A4 chip which is basically the same CPU as the 3GS (with higher clock speed) plus the same amount of RAM (256MB).

The iPad 2 has the same dual core A5 cpu as the iPhone 4S.

The 3GS didn't have the A4, the iPhone 4 did. I would say the original iPad is a "3GS v2" as it has the upgraded cpu but the same ram.

Expecting the ifixit crew to sucessfully power up a potentially prototype retina display is rather like expecting a car mechanic to write some software to reprogram the microchips in a cars ECU.

There has to be some workaround. Powering a display with a different connector doesn't seem like the hardest task in the world for people used to tinkering with that sort of thing. At least it doesn't seem like it should be impossible... then again, I know all of nothing about rigging electronics, so who knows.

Her "quoting" the "iPad 3 display" got old and annoying "real fast".

"Facepalm".

Quoting is annoying, but what about her mouth? I got sick of her crooked mouth in the first iFixit video I watched. Prior to that time I only read the articles/manuals. Now I'm back to only articles/manuals...

It's plausible and nothing we didn't already know. I'm just waiting for capacity on March 7. I'm going to buy it ( Gave away my 2 to a buddy and am suffering a feeling of "somethings missing" ) :)

Good question, not easy to answer.

In a sense yes the API supports the higher resolution. Drawing in iOS is with physical dimensions so text and vector drawing will benefit immediately. This means text will be far crisper and more detailed.

However as far as apps go, if they are made up of excessive numbers of bit maps it could take developers awhile to deliver viable updates. Bitmaps are tied to screen resolution and thus will suffer some on the high resolution screen.

So in the end it depends. It depends upon the app, some of which will need little updating. Others may need a major overhaul.

Does the API already support hi-res or will I have to wait months after release for my apps to take advantage?

Come on frigging iFixit amaterus, hire a serious electronic engineer and power it up already!

First off the I/O on the connector pins is likely a secret right now so trying to connect it up to another port would be a waste of time. Why waste of time, because current iPads aren't capable of driving the screen. It isn't like hooking up an auto syncing monitor to a PC.

----------

It is after all nothing more than a case. As such it should concentrate on functionality and not the desires of tweakers.

As to the battery don't knock more capacity. You will want that capacity if you are a 4G user. That is if the the unit is actually thicker due to the battery.

She says the iPad 3 display is .6 oz lighter the iPad 2's and that it's the exact same size.

If the iPad 3 is thicker than the iPad 2, can we assume that it's just because of a bigger battery? Not that battery life isn't important, but I would have expected Apple to make the iPad 3 at least as thin as the last one, they are pretty obsessive when it comes to thinness and I thought they wouldn't want the case to appear like a downgrade.

EDIT: It may also be because of the rumored dual LED backlighting, but this rumor comes from DigiTimes so...

Ahhh, gotcha. I shouldn't have assumed the worst anyhow. We (that's me in the video) are extra careful not to "confirm" things that are not confirmable by us. Sure, it's probably true, but it's not our business to say one way or there other if it is. Sorry for jumping to conclusions! <3

Didn't realize I was replying to you! That's what I get for not reading user names I'm replying to. Didn't mean to refer to you in the third person. I always enjoy your videos, and had no problem with your delivery. You made a point of being very tongue-in-cheek with your explicit rumor-stating.

(And now that I dig in through your profile here, I must say, cute kiddo you have!)

Well you must have way more money than I do, and I do fairly well for myself. I switch out every couple of years because otherwise it would cost to much.

I thought the I fixit team had more skills. A real electronics tech would have found a way to make it work. lol

I don't get why some of you are going all gaga over girl in the video. Judging from the ring on her finger, she appears to be already taken and she is a "geek". Her mannerisms and appearance is very geeky.

I would get really annoyed by her voice pretty quickly.

You think geeks deserve something other than a cute geek?

There is a credit card for that

I plugged it in, there are an infinite number of pixels, looks pretty good
