Apple has, what...7% market share, leaving a boat-load of Windows notebooks and desktops, most still equipped with USB-A ports, and until that large market share moves to USB-C, the market for USB-A will be high and USB-C will continue to grow very slowly. People just don't want a device that lacks full compatibility with everything.

I spent a whopping $10 for a USB-C to USB-A 3.1 cable. Works great. Though today I see they're $7. Wah...

Yes on the Apple site they have changed up the speaker system and sure hear more bass. Deeper sound and yet to me it surrounds the MacBook Pro.
[doublepost=1531536955][/doublepost]

“MacBook Pro has beautifully balanced, high‑fidelity sound that takes listening to new levels with wide dynamic range and more bass for maximum boom. And the speakers are connected directly to system power, enabling greater peak amplification. So you can mix a track on the fly, edit video on location, or enjoy a movie on the go.” (from the Apple site )

Gotta love marketing. There’s nothing hi-fidelity, or wide dynamic range about any laptop speakers. Of course some are better than others, but in the end, they’re still just laptop speakers.

Apple “it’s a small percentage of people being affected.” Bs. They think apple fans are stupid....(not 100 percent....false?)

Old keyboard system (even ignoring the reliability problem, the new keyboards feel gross to type on. the new ones are still super loud, too.)

The old, smaller trackpad (new one is too big - lots of accidental input)
2/3 reasons I care about the MBP, the last being the screen. No other laptop gets this right. And they threw it away.

I understand why they tried to change the keyboard (thinner and sleeker), but why make the trackpad oversized? I don't get what they were thinking there.

Also something I noticed when I had the 15" MacBook Pro 2016 model that the keys made a place on the display. They have fixed this issue at least with the 13"

This is funny to me as I recall the same thing being said about the keyboards on the 2012-2015 models as being inferior when they were first introduced compared to the 2011 and earlier non retina models.

Same here - I really loved the old PowerBook keyboards. It took me about a day to get used to the 2009-2015 keyboards, and about a day to get used to the current keyboards. I have a 2013 mbp at home and a 2017 mbp at work. I vastly prefer the keyboard on the 2017 - it’s faster to type on and typing is more precise, but it is incredibly loud.

What good is a short throw keyboard if it takes the same amount of force to move the keys?

Typing this on a 2017 MBP 13'.... It doesn't take the same amount of force to move the keys. It took quite a bit of retraining for me to get used to the reduced amount of force to use this keyboard. Only then did it become easier to use, and my speed increased significantly on it. Trying to type on this keyboard as if it was a normal keyboard or even 2015 keyboard will result in problems and fatigue as your fingers expect normal feedback. Using reduced force is using the keyboard how it was designed to be used, then you'll fly on it.

The audio recording in the last news post showed this - whoever was doing those audio recordings was hitting it way too hard. You have to use easily 1/3rd the force. Once you do, you use much less "effort" to move the keys. Only then, imo, will a user adapt to the keyboard. Other 2016+ owners I've talked to have reiterated this. Adapting isn't easy. Especially when, like me, I program on a windows machine all day with a Dell keyboard, then come back to this during my off hours.

Terrible? I don’t think anyone who owns these think that at all. Time to turn in your Apple card and move along. I hear Acer has Alexa built into their notebooks now *thumbs up*

I'm really getting tired of this here. It has become very popular to hate on Apple. You can tell especially when cliche anti-apple statements are regurgitated consistently. Post history shows that the user is only here to bash Apple. I have to wonder what motivates people to join an <insert product name here> forum just to bash on that product day in and day out. It really gets old. .... Terrible. lol. So terrible they sold how many million laptops this last quarter?

So terrible that 3.98 million laptops were sold in ONE quarter in 2017 alone. 3.98 * 4 = 15.9 million TERRIBLE laptops. Man, I can't believe Apple is forcing people to buy that many terrible laptops. Bad Apple! </sarcasm> https://www.macrumors.com/2017/08/15/trendforce-apple-macbook-sales-q2-2017/

@Abazigal says it perfectly here:
Apple's Q2 2017 MacBook Sales Increase 17 Percent Over the Previous Quarter
"Fortunately, Apple's consumer base extends far beyond an increasingly vocal (and whiny) minority on Macrumours."

Oh no...

If you listen closely, you can hear the sound of thousands of tech divas on Twitter, blogs, YouTube, throwing out the scripts they were writing to FUD people about the keyboard...

... just to make new ones spinning this around...

iFixit is the first. It's a "cover up" now... according to them...

Apple: damned if you do, damned if you don't.

If I were Tim Cook, I would drop the battery replacement costs from $29 to $9 and shut them down for good.

Let's face it. You gotta thank them for it. It's this kind of exposure that Apple takes action and fixes their issues.

Amazing that Best Buy can get them in stock but the retail Apple stores can’t.
Yes, I tried the Apple Store on Thursday and then I was watching the Best Buy online and noticed they started showing up in stores. I went to the Lexington Store and they had two. So I bought one. I am glad I did!

I would think they will be in stock at the Apple stores by Sunday. I hope so as I’ll be in Oregon and can save about 250 in tax.

Yeah. I vastly prefer the 4X thunderbolt 3 ports: I literally have compatibility with everything and can mix and match accessories as my needs require. I can use the ports as usb A, FireWire, SD cards, external displays, or some combination of the above. Cables and dongles, while annoying now, are a relatively cheap and very functional solution. I can finally use both of my FireWire audio interfaces, FireWire hard drive, and an external monitor at the same time. This wasn’t possible on any of the previous MBPs.

If it indeed turns out that the 2018 models no longer suffer from the Butterfly keyboard's issues... then I guess I'll be selling my 2017 MacBook Pro and scrounging another $1,000 up to get a new 2018. I keep my machines for the long haul, I don't need to be worried about keyboard failures. Especially when I'm spending $3,000 on the d*mn thing in the first place. My 2017 already had a failed keyboard in April of this year. I bought it last July. That's not a good start.

Of course, if I'm going to drop three G's on a new laptop... I'm inclined to, you know, not buy another Apple machine and buy something like an XPS 15. A machine that gets me similar specs for way less money and doesn't have keyboard flaws. ;)

Sure, I hate Windows 10 compared to macOS. But I hate companies that do s*itty engineering and then use brand cachet as an excuse for their ****ty engineering even more.

The Apple Store in Lexington KY told me they thought they would have in store on Saturday

Because the Dell XPS 15 is so problem free, it could be defined as a perfect laptop. (I realize this is a 2 year old thread, but... https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/3spvho/list_of_known_issues_with_the_xps_15_9550/)

My brother got an XPS 13 this year. He can't play a intensive game on it without it shutting off on him from overheating. Dell won't do anything about it so he has to use a laptop cooler and hope his laptop doesn't restart in the middle of a game.

Only Apple laptops have problems.

That said, our office did buy a nice XPS 15 - Costco had them on serious sale a month ago? or two. Specs are nice. Screen, build quality, overall feel not so much. But I could see myself living with it, especially at the Costco discount price.

Just swallow your pride and go back to your great design!

Quite a few people actually prefer the butterfly switches.

Hang out in a mechanical keyboard enthusiasts' forum and you'll find that people have really wide ranging preferences for how they want their keyboards to feel and many of them are convinced that the one they prefer is the one that everyone should prefer.

Hmm. Wonder how well a plastic condom over the keys is going to work in 3 to 5 years. Talk about placebo.

Oh that right. We are supposed to buy a new $3,000 to $5,000 laptop every couple of years.
