iVid will be included in iHome

This is from Max, back in june. I believe he works for Apple.

*********
"The Video iPod is an unprofitable proposition. Viewing video on a 7 inch screen or less is not a profitable mass market device. The consumer support for such a device is very limited. What is profitable and will be developed is the ivid video store where consumers can "one click" to download movies (rentable or purchaseable) using pixlet technology and beam them using "airvid" from their ipod/powerbook to their Apple "ihome" device to watch on their 30 inch cinema display with 5.1 digital sound "in the screen" speakers. Now that's Apple technology."

and with the handle of the box where it is (as seen in picture "Photo-0003.jpg") , you would carry the box upside down walking down the street..

fake fake fake

Wow...you guys cracked this case pretty fast!

Another thing to add to the fakery: Apple always, always, always, has product shots on each side of their computer boxes.

Looking more and more at the iHome pics, especially the video, the thing looks to be made of cardboard.

I hate "spy" pics and the discussions about them, I quit.

Good work all. That is fake as hell.

Plus with all the lawsuits such because of "trade secrets" one would think ole Steve would have everything new surrounded by armed guards.

(Or at least Phil Schiller with a pellet gun.)

ihome.com domain

I just got confirmation that today apple paid for the rights to ihome.com domain. Actual transfer of domain does not take place until macworld starts

Where did you find the confirmation?

Come on, this is the best part of the week before macworld ;) - the fake wannabes, with their hideously flawed fakes - i must say, this one had me convinced for a few mins tho.

Macworld week wouldnt be the same without these!

(Or at least Phil Schiller with a pellet gun.)

Lol, thanks for making me spit my tea out :D :p

And the video the box seems too light to have computer-contents too. Just my impression.

But honestly I don't know what to believe. I mean.. if they just registered ihome.com? I'm thinking it's a fake. But it's the best fake i've seen so far.

No problem...anytime.

And you are right. This is part of the fun of "pre-macworld". If someone wants to go to the trouble, then by all means! go ahead. I'll take a look. doesn't mean I'll believe it though.

This "headless" iWhatever supposedly allows you to mount it vertically.

If you did that with this, you'd either have the optical drive facing down on your desk or the logo would be upside down.

fakery.

this seems a bit odd - if ihome.com was just a parked domain it would seem normal, but it seems to be a business that's been operating since 1995...

I dont think anyone would give up a name they've had for 10 years without informing their customers well in advance...

I was thinking the same thing

That thing looks way too light when he is handling it in the video. He is only using his thumb and a couple of figures to hold it up. I can barely do that with my 12'' powerbook and he moves it with little effort.

The more I look at the pictures, the more it looks like a cardboard box with paper on the outside; It doesn't look square at times and certain edges don't fit right.

But it is still one of the better scams I have seen yet. Props to the person who made them.

why the coinicidence

It seems that every "spy pic" is with cameras that are just out of focus, and they just document enough to make it look real. Anybody on this forum (or any mac person in general) would be sure to get absolutely clear pictures, pictures of all the interesting things, plenty of closeups. I know if I walked in on this thing with a camera I would photograph the heck out of it, the specs, the box, closeups of everything.

I congratulate someone for their valiant effort and putting a smile on everyone's face.

See you all next week at the keynote.

Fake.

Typeface is wrong.

It's the system version of the font, and not the pro version which apple uses for their packaging.

I knew being a type geek would eventually one day pay off, errrr, or something like that.

Fake-a-rooney

So, to sum up and add my thoughts:
1. Spelling of 'centre' vs. 'center'
2. Ventilation holes look printed-on
3. Ports look printed-on
4. Massive 'iHome' text on top of the iHome - Apple would never do something that ugly
5. The font on the massive 'iHome' text looks like Myriad, but I don't think it is Myriad (the other text is)
6. The polythene looks like it's been taken from a bigger product
7. Why is the guy feeling it up? (Photo-008.jpg) :O

Though having said that, the polystyrene container doesn't look much like an iBook or PowerBook one.

Maybe it's a double-bluff set up by Apple to make us discredit this rumour before they introduce it? Or maybe that's giving the faker too much credit...

Or do we really care?

iSore

To the believers: are you guys blind?

That thing is a folded card board mock-up with photocopied/shopped panels glued on. This is hardly alien autopsy level scammage. A kid could do this.

Henceforth shall it be called, iSore

Hooray! FAKE SPY PICS! Now I feel like MacWorld is really here :D And in an un-sealed box in an ELEVATOR no less! MacWorld without fake spy pics--and debunking complete with close-ups--would by like Christmas without snow.

I tell you, it brings a tear to my eye.

It's just a shame they never QUITE get those little details right.

EDIT: MR servers bogged down on Friday evening? Get a life, you people! Who uses forums on a Friday night?

iMedia!!!!!

iMEDIA!!!!!!!! A MUST SEE!!!!

Found this pic floating around, looks like conclusive evidence to me!!!!!

Congradulations "photo experts"

I'm not sure who gave you all the forensic photologist certification test.

Look at the video, see the shine on the ihome twords the end of the video... that = plastic. not cardboard. Picture 11 also has shine on the right side.
The line on the box of the ihome could be where you open it in case you need to.
One of the ports on the back could be split using an included cable, to RCA or whatever.
It isn't as easy as ou guys seem to think to fake a box, packaging and device.

and it looks like a cubical not an elevator.

Congradulations [sic] spelling bee champ...

Or just a glossy inkjet paper finish out of a nice printer.

Uhm, s/he didn't have to fake a box. The box existed. S/he just had to PS up a few panels and glue them to the box, which is quite easy.

Only if you work pushing buttons and moving vertically in your job.

abrooks - a picture of a media device that includes SCART sockets may well look very plausible to us Brits, but I think our American friends will regard them as somewhat out of place.

Are you serious? Please tell me you are joking. It is a cardboard box. Don't need to be a "forensic photologist " to see that. Just open your eyes and look at the pictures. This was originally posted over at AppleInsider by someone in the UK who appears to be the same guy who posted the last elevator fakes just before the iMac G5 came out. This has got to be the most obvious fake I have ever seen bar none. If you believe this is real then I have some ocean front property in Kansas to sell you.

This is, of course, a fake. A few other things that I noticed:
  • The styropor interior of the box seems to consist of two parts next to each other, like someone had had some styropor piece and had to make it bigger to fit in the box
  • The housing looks like it was damaged, for example the CD slot is not a straight line.
  • Why does a desktop/home item have to have two iBook-style power connectors, on on the front side and one on the back side? Of course, one could be the power switch, but both look exactly the same. Does not make sense to me.
  • The device seems to have neither an ordinary VGA nor an ordinary DVI Output. While Apple could, of course, decide that you had to use an Adapter for both, it would make more sense to me if you could connect one of them directly to the device
  • Except for the double Firewire port it has exactly the same connectors and labelling on the connectors as an iBook. The second Firewire port seems to have been added with Photoshop before printing, because the two USB ports have only one Label, but each of the Firewire ports has it's own label
  • The way the Apple and the script are written suggests that both shine in the dark like the Apple on an iBook does (in fact, I think that this is taken from an actual iBook). It is not impossible that Apple is going to do something, but I doubt it.
  • There is no apparent way to connect a Kensington anti-stealing device to it. Of course, it could be on the sides (somehow we never see them in the pictures and there is hardly any detail in the movie), but it would be inconsistent with other Macs, which have that thing just next to the other ports. I do not think that it has been removed, because Apple even equips it's displays and the 21kg eMac (which no thief will want to carry away anyway :D) with it.

To say something positive: It is far better than the alleged iMac G5 just before the Paris Expo. And was thinking that the CD Drive was to wide, but after a few calculations (based on the assumption that the connectors have been taken from an iBook, just like the one I am currently using) I arrived at the conclusion that it was just right.

Oh, and somehow picture number 9 seems to be missing.
