this is a hoax. if you go to apples UK store there is a product called the eyeHome, which isn't even made by apple, but it is in the apple store. here is the link: http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObj...vQL3kAopXwozn/0.0.11.1.0.6.21.1.8.1.0.0.0.1.0 Let me know what you think.

Plus, don't you think apple would have the common sense to put the image flipped the correct way when the box is standing upright? with the handle towards the sky. In his picture the image would be upside down when the box is sitting in the correct posistion.

fake fake fake fake fake. no video output port, although there is a port on the back that looks like either firewire 800 or VGA/DVI out like on the 12" powerbooks, but the question goes, why would apple require a proprietary adapter to hook it up to a tv or whatever, if its sole purpose is to hook up to a TV? also i'd think if they were to make something like that, it would (a) not be made to compete with the airport express, (b) have DVI (for HDTV), component, s-video, and/or composite video out on the box, and (c) wouldn't need a modem port. the ports look like they were taken from a laptop.

Exactly! Imagine a row of these boxes sitting on the shelf. Lol. :D Notice the other boxes in the first photo are all designed so when n their normal upright position, you don't have to turn your head, no matter whether you are looking at the front or side.

To those who say Apple would include an adapter for S-Video and VGA... again... why make it harder for the NEW Mac (oops, I mean Home) user to setup. Apple's philosophy is plug and go. A windows user is going to look at the back and say "There's no where to plug my monitor in! I better read the manual."

I hope this is a fake because it leaves me feeling let down. But I'd prob still buy one and put up with all the mistakes "Apple" have made with it.

And could one of the people who think it's real, please justify WHY Apple would call this a "Home" and not a "Mac"?? iCenter or iHub would make a lot more sense if they wanted to get away from the Mac brand.

Umm guys. Can I ask one thing? Where the heck is the video suppose to be plugged in?

The ports on the back side as far as I can tell are Ethernet, modem, couple Firewire, couple USB, don't know what that little port is (Power?), and prob audio out.

Well since all of these ports are on its back if it lays flat on the desk does the video comes out of one of the sides? That seems stupid and down right clumsy. And since it's been stated in a number of rumors that this system is suppose to be able to be placed vertically (Think PS2.) would you have the video actually coming out of the top of the box when set up vertically? I also find it strange that of all the pictures they didn’t bother to take pictures of the side which would show the video out.
Maybe its just me but if I’m going to take pictures of this thing I would take a dozen of them as fast as humanly possible at every conceivable angle. I was pretty convinced this was BS after first seeing the pictures but after spending some time looking at them its pretty damn obvious. Esp with:

The side of the damn box the thing is encased in is crumpled! In fact I'll bet cash that whoever did this took a picture of his iBook's ports, did a little Photoshoping, printed it out, taped it to a box, and viola. Instant headless iMac.

Thought I would go back and try and find the fake iMac photos from August.

And for the record, I agree the "iHome" is likely fake. Why would apple need an 8" deep box for a 2" product?

Well to be fair we don't know what accessories are in the box? A stand? Power cables. Wait a sec. Would Apple actually ship a Mac without a keyboard? This box is way too small for a keyboard. No way in hell they are going to skimp that far.

Unless it runs a special edition of OS X that runs off one of those cool gyro mice, and maybe a 12 in powerbook style keyboard....

BTW: I, personally, think its a fake. I'll only believe it when Steve Jobs is up there talking about it (except in the case of iPod socks, when I didn't believe him...)

It is fake....but

thankyou Mr. Someone for the laugh.

It was mentioned in a post eariler I believe, but you can see that on the supposed computer, there is a piece of paper on top of it with the words printed on it. In one of the photos, you can see the diffrent colors between the computer and the paper.

Look close and you can see the edge of the paper on the pictures with the computer at an angle.

Cheers...

but I still would like it to be real....

Yeah, I agree with the flaws people have noticed. Also: since when does Apple slap the name of the product across something? You don't get a Powerbook that says "POWERBOOK" or an iBook that says "iBOOK" or anything ... the iPod, yes perhaps, but that's far more subtle.

Ya, I'm going to have to go with "fake," sadly. Four more days, though. :D
how about the iMac G5?

Ya ya ya, thanks, we covered it, a bunch of other people pointed out what I did and then a bunch of other people reminded us of the iMac. ;)

Anyway, I <3 Macrumors. Without you guys, I would let my desire for hot spy pics overtake my rationality and lucid thought. :)

Thanks to the person who posted the "iMac spy pics" from a few months ago ... it looks like a different elevator, but the same ploy. :D

A pretty good job, but upon further inspection no longer looks real.

The "artist" obviously used the ThinkSecret rumor as the basis for this unit, that's why it does seem pretty plausible.

For those that say a 3rd grader could do this, I bet it's actually not that easy to come up with something like this. The little details become obvious later, but probably not when you're busy trying to put the thing together.

What is this box?

It is obviously a fake.

Mmm... But I have a question, what is the box laying over the cinema display in the first picture? A replacement battery for a powerbook? I've never seen the boxes for them.

Well, surprisingly, my first inpression is that this is real, but there are 2 things that make me feel stand offish.

1. Centre not center, I know this is how it is spelled in UK and other places im sure, but i don't buy it.

2. Looks like the same elevator of the famed Aluminum 23".

Pretty convincing since they open up the box and show it off.

How do we know this isn't the UK model?

these pics were taken in the same elevator...

as the last hoax pictures.... can't remember what it was... I think they emerged a couple of days before last MW... but it was the same kind of thing... BS box and a hand reaching into the box...

need a new location guys! (ps. I wanna believe!)

Also (need to have new styrofoam.... notice all the creases in this stuff....

In the days prior to an expo, claimed "spy shots" always seem to emerge. No credibility or backstory available.

The little port is the iBook and PowerBook's mini-video out. You plug in a dongle with DVI, VGA, or RCA output on the end.

That makes it more likely it's an iBook Photoshop, HOWEVER, ThinkSecret does say 'via a dongle'.

not sure if anyone else mentioned this I gave up reading after 3 pages. But I think if apple were to do a "media center" device that it would fit standard component size of 17"~ wide. That way you can stack it with your receiver (with built in ipod dock of course) But Apple seems the type to go the extra step and make it the standard width for the a/v junkies (which steve seems to be)

I don't think they have ever changed a product name/description spelling for a specific country.

MOSR

I think the bubbles have officially stopped rising from MacOSRumors.

Their two big breaking items tonight are the iHome photos (with much more on this over the weekend!) and some celebrity who referred to the "iPod radio" (I'm sure some people call ALL music devices radios), thus indicating an exciting new FM radio from Apple!

Ah well, MOSR was fun and even useful once--I wish them luck in whatever they turn to after MOSR.

Please Respect the Apple!

Reading through many (pg 3 of 6) everyone has said that Apple does not put the product name on anything, for the exception of the "Holy" iPod and Awesome iMac G5, PLEASE give credit to PowerBooks, iBooks, although it's not directly seen at all times it is printed right below the LCD, Why wouldn't they put iHome on the product?
In addition to iBook and PowerBook on the top of the Box alongside specs, although granted its not the "centre" of attention.

But all that aside THIS IS A FAKE, Apple would never allow a product box to be upside down, yeah early Apple Computers (Laptops) had upside down Logo's on them but that was 10 years ago, (Powerbook 520c)

Thanks
Aldaris,
PowerMac G4 (2x 1.25Ghz 280Gb Combo+Super Airport)
PowerBook G4 (17-1.5Ghz)
iPod 4G 40Gb

(Edit) I would really like to commend the person/crew that threw this together, you truly captured the Mac community all (at least most) looking for spare change to get the new toy! Again Great Job ~

Thanks for the Laughs and Smiles MacRumors!

I was convinced by this at first, but a few things struck me odd at first:

1. No DVI out, apple would have included it so you would buy the now-cheaper Cinema displays with it, no?
2. Localized spelling, I'm Canadian so it seemed normal. And that was weird.
3. What everyone's mentioned thusfar, and what I've included in my attached image.

Mostly it's the typeface. I'm a first year design student and Apple does not letterspace their typography. It is the wrong shade of grey (too dark), it is horizontally stretched, Myriad, Apple used Myriad Pro Semi Bold.

The product could be real, but these photos are a fake. I'd be all for this product, I'd buy three. But where is Coax? RCA? DVI?

Also, from taking 3D design, it is very easy to construct something like this. We looked at examples where samples were made out of wood or cardboard for product mockups and were sprayed with a clear laquer finish multiple times to give it that shine. I can find some online examples if anyones interested.

It could be real. Could be fake. Who knows?

Green Box - not airport

artguy said:
is an airport card package. And again for those who missed it - the new iMac G5 DOES say iMac on the back in 2" or so high letters - dead center (or would that be "centre") :D

I have bought many airport cards and none have come in a box like that. Granted it has been 9 months since I ordered one, but all my airport cards have come in white boxes.

My extra power cord for my powerbook, however, did come in a box that looks exactly like that. I will see if I can get some pics. The box is at the office and really don't want to run to the office the weekend just to prove the point.
