I'm intrigued. With Belkin ******** the bed with Wemo, I need to find some replacements for those light switches, before the end of the year.

As a swede it is always fun to think how non swedes pronounce them and if they have any idea what they mean. IKEA is usually pretty good at naming their products with something that is related to the product. This time not so much...

I just happened to see this right after your post and I’m both intrigued and surprised to hear they were actually real terms! Fascinating, indeed.

I had a few of the old tradfri series, but they were pretty cumbersome to install and maintain (needed a dedicated ikea switch for every smart plug), light quality was terrible and changing colors stuttery/not smooth. Eventually replaced all of them with philips hue for 4x the price but peace of mind. (Light quality/spectrum in the hues is not great either but much better than the ikea ones).

For the price I'll probably try a bulb (I still have space for one), but I won't have high hopes. I wonder if they'll also bring out new matter-connected smart shades.

Reminds me of the first gen iPod, which had a scroll wheel on the front and was intuitively usable.
I think it it depends on the size. The smaller, the more difficult it is to operate on the front. I have a microwave oven with a scroll knob for the time, about 1 1/4” in diameter, that can be pushed in so that it is flush with the surface, or pulled out for easier operation. It’s difficult to operate in the flush position, despite moving with almost no friction.

The thing that is awkward with that kind of control is that the direction of movement changes under your finger, without your finger rotating in the same way, and that effect is stronger the smaller the radius. There are variations of such wheels that have a second, smaller integrated wheel to place your finger on, to decouple the larger wheel’s rotation from your finger.

For what it’s worth, their current humidity/temperature/air quality sensors work quite well. I even have some automations on HomeKit using the humidity levels and so far no complaints.
They require the Hub, but I expect the new ones to work with any thread hub (such as the Apple TV)
I actually have that air quality sensor (Vindstyrka) but I'm using it standalone, and it's pretty nice. My only "problem" with it is it's missing the CO2 sensor which the new sensor will have.

Will check this up, with IKEA hub.
As long as I don’t need Apple’s HomeKit with Siri. I’ll be really happy.
As a Swede I naturally have some IKEA already

Right, but this isn't your microwave. It seems to be designed for one-handed use. Think of that first iPod - the idea is you hold it in your hand and scroll by rotating your thumb on the scroll wheel. Or hold it in your hand and rotate the scroll wheen with a finger from your other hand. Or, as it seems in some of the media images from iKea, it can be mounted on a surface and you just put a fingertip on it and make circular motions to scroll.

I didn't realize that Thread operated at 2.4GHz. For the past while, I thought 2.4GHz was being phased out. The last few internet modem/router units that I received from my ISPs only broadcast on 5GHz, making it difficult to connect some IoT devices that I have. I've resorted to daisy-chaining an AirPort Express router, which broadcasts its own network on the 2.4GHz frequency, and that works fine.

2.4Ghz is the frequency that Thread operates on. It has nothing at all to do with 2.4Ghz WiFi.

You don't need HomeKit, these will work with Ikea's hub or any other Matter compatible system like Alexa.

My wife wasn't that enthusiastic about smart home devices until she noticed that the most reliable ones we have are IKEA. Now, she recommends opportunities to add more IKEA smart devices!
