No voice assistant on these is the one major downside. Otherwise they’re a good addition to the Sonos ecosystem.

I might add them to my setup somewhere!

That really holds me back. I'll wait for Apple's next move on HomePod. I love my HomePod in the living room but it's way too powerful for a bedroom. I'd love something like a BeatsPill portable HomePod or a GoogleHome mini type Siri speaker. I want to be able to talk to Siri anywhere in my home but HomePod is a bit of overkill both in sound and price.

I'm assuming you can use the SONOS app on any platform (Apple, Android, Windows, etc.) to play music to this, in addition to using Airplay 2?

Yes, I have lot of SONOS kit and the bottom line is it just works. Great results from the Connect feeding line in to my Hi-Fi system.
Looks cool but I will stick to high fidelity wire speakers.

I get great results from a SONOS CONNECT feeding my HI-FI System. Streams FLAC/AAC/MP3 brilliantly from a NAS controlled via phone or PC.

The Sonos ecosystem spreads like cancer. Why would anybody spend so much on speakers that are so horribly locked in? There is no reason for this high amount of lock-down other than vendor-bondage.
locked in? they are now pretty flexible. you can use airplay and outside apps can stream to them. compared to apple it is like a free for all.

Aside from a used Airport, is there any dongle out there that supports Airplay 2 > 3.5mm out and doesn't cost a gazillion dollars? I have a bunch of Echo Inputs I'd love to replace with Airplay 2 devices. No need for Siri.

That's a really lame product demo(video). Looks like the switch is ready to break off too.

Second all this. I have a turntable that I use CONNECT to add into my SONOS speaker system. It took nothing to set up, and I can just drop a needle and it plays - no messing around with my phone, no flipping switches, no talking to an assistant. Just drop the needle, and it plays over the speakers.

And when I want to stream Spotify / Pandora / Apple Music / whatever on those speakers instead and don't feel like pulling out my phone I can ask Alexa to do that for me. I've had scads of bluetooth / wireless speakers, with and without Airplay, and NONE of them are engineered as thoughtfully as SONOS.

But what happend to the Home Pod? I have been waiting for them for two years here in Sweden. Now I will start to use Sonos instead.

I have found alexa is less then stellar on our sonos speakers google assistant is a bit better.

Love the idea and push from more companies into technology! But after listening to them in the store today I was really surprised about the sound quality - it is not very good... nowhere near the Sonos quality. I’m no expert in sound... but it was surprisingly bad!?

Then again I guess most people won’t hear the difference and love the price.
I'm hearing the same thing from YouTube reviews. :(

Great, Now we'll have every appliance in the household that can listen to music from... *rolls eyes)

Its good this stuff exists, but it's just eye candy as a convenient way. Whats wrong with not pushing people ? Companies don't have to keep up. sometimes it's good to be different. You'll still get peple who wanna buy a "lamp without any tech at all" after the trends ticks over, and when that day comes, won't you be glad a store still exists ?

(Well,, actually, i think i'm asking the wrong people )

The garage!

I almost stuck a HomePod in the garage. Then I realized anyone could stand outside and shout "Hey Siri, Open the garage doors".

So in went an Airport Express mk2 and an old soundbar instead. It sounds OK, but the soundbar turns off and has to be reset whenever we have a power outage. This ikea bookshelf thing looks perfect.

Judging by the other stuff that IKEA peddles, they will be complete and utter junk.

Because Siri is as dumb as a rock?
I have numerous Apple devices, so I feel free to agree Siri is dumb as a rock. It’s incredible how Apple ceded assistants to Amazon. Apple missed on maps as well, but did a great job catching up. I’m a big Apple Maps fan. Maybe Siri will catch up one day.
