My macbook was purchased on black friday from apple.com and I got it as a gift for christmas and i was pissed i had i'life 08. So I called and they told me they where gonna charge me ten dollars for the upgrade and then I got transfered and when the total came due I owed nothing. So its gonna be here feb. 5 they said. So id give that a try.

You still bought it on Black Friday way back last year. Regardless of when you open the box and start using the computer, you still bought the computer in November. You should'nt get anything and you should be happy they're offering the $10 upgrade and not charging you full price.

I want a Unibody Macbook Pro to replace my Early 08 one I got in June. It's barely half a year old! I should also get iLife '09 and iWork '09 with it since I never used the '08 stuff when it was 2008 and Apple owes me a Christmas present.

Yea "entitled" to software for a laptop it costs a fraction of the price to make then what they sell it for. That sounds absolutely absurd your right. Well keep letting them hit you up for money while I bitch and get what I want. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

The good news is that if you keep living your life with that mentality, it WILL catch up with you. Life is funny like that.

Even if it's not, you should expect to see an iLife 09 installation disc inside the laptop box. That's how Apple did it with the release of Leopard.

Anyway, for some people who are already complaining... if this attitude continues in a few decades we'll probably see "ZOMG!! I bought this laptop two years ago it came with iLife '29 IT WAS JUST TWO YEARS OLD!!! I DESERVE THE NEW ILIFE '31

Hopefully, but I don't mind paying £7.95 to get the newest features.

What is with all this talk about how this is just another way to make money for Apple? Have you forgotten Apple's thing, along with most other companies is to MAKE MONEY. They aren't a charity.

So wait...if I ordered a MBP today, would it come with iLife 09 installed or I buy it for $10 at a later date?

Yeah, I didnt feel like reading all of this crap.

Looks like it depends...you may get the installation cd for iLife 09 in the box, or you may have to pay $10 through Apple's Up-To-Date program.

Ummm...

I called my local Apple store to ask the same question because I bought a MBP less than 2 weeks ago. I was on hold for 2 hours and finally hung up. Ridiculous. I never even spoke to a human, and apparently there were only '5 calls' ahead of me.

They were busy helping customers that were in the store. If you want to be helped right away, get your ass down there.

Who sits on hold for two hours?

Dumb

I didnt buy it, it was a gift so i didnt get it till christmas. Therefore within two weeks of me owning it I had outdated software. So I dont consider myself lucky, I think its ridiculous they release new software right after the holiday season anyway. Its retarted!

You're software isn't outdated, it still works.

Doesn't Safari have spell check?

My ship date was Jan. 30 when I pre-ordered this weekend. I got an e-mail a few hours ago saying it had shipped and would be here later this week (I think the 29th). Considering I had iLife '06 on this when I got it, I'm stoked to check out the new features. I was hesitant at first to fork over the $100 (family pack), but when I saw the demo of Faces, Places, and the extra movie editing tools, not to mention Sting & FOB doing music lessons, I was ready to dole out that money.

As to the dude who whined all over this thread, you must have never bought a Mac about 5 weeks before the next revision. I did this twice. I said "ah, that sucks." But I still had a darn good computer. Tech crap is outdated the minute you buy it. However, you'll notice in a poll I started about how long people's Macs have lasted that some people have decade-old computers still working. You have a good computer. Shut up and pay if you want the upgrade.

I recently bought a car, but then they came out with a newer model, with a faster engine! So I went to the dealership and demanded them to upgrade me!

[/sarcasm off]

Yes, by your logic, it is also a scam when the dealers try to sell you a new 2008 car for a discount when 2009 and 2010 models are on the lot.

Except Apple isn't selling models without iLife'09 for discounted price, but charging the very same amount and additional fee.
