And if it was needed for better waterproofing which is a tradeoff to you? old style click button that lets water through or this?I hate it because now you feel the click in the back of the phone. The whole implementation just feels so Android.
I guess I'll get used to it but it's not natural at all. And similar to the headphone jack removal, it's a solution to something that was never a problem.
You want to see something weird? Use a Magic Trackpad 2 on a iMac then shut off the trackpad. It's like voodoo magic it feels so real.
I envy you , my friend. Winter is coming soon for us. Hate winter, hate to store my bicycle in basement. Skiing ? COLD!!!!!!Good thing for me that I live in Southern California.![]()
Lmao, I spent 15 minutes playing with that the day I realized it didn't actually move!
That's the thing, for me. It doesn't feel like vibrations to me. It feels like a click, which is what I find fascinating. It certainly is different. It is awkward feeling the bottom of the phone vibrate instead of just feeling the button. But it is perfectly functional and something that I will quickly get used to. Not Apple's best but not an issue for me.

Question about the home button: if my 6s is laying on a table, I usually press the home button to turn the screen on and check notifications. Is that still possible without picking the phone up?
This is why Apple did it, 100%.I think its to prep the next year or whatever model that does away with the home button all together and built into the screen for smaller form factor.
I heard a reviewer refer to the iPhone 7 as a "bridge" release leading to many new features and technologies in the next few years. I think she is right. The new Taptic Engine will be a big part of coming features.I think the original button was problematic. Would get gunk in it, and become "gritty," and inconsistent. I'm glad for the change. It helps the water resistance rating, too, I wouldn't doubt.
Well, it's no wonder you disliked it and didn't find it intuitive if it wasn't vibrating... The haptic feedback is what makes the new idea work. Obviously something was wrong there.I had a quick play with the 7 Plus yesterday and found the new button very off putting, it is one of them things that def takes a bit of getting used to.
For some reason the one I tried did not vibrate so I think the haptic can possibly be disabled for it. I would def not recommend as it is just not intuitive.
I mean, I use it when I'm going to pick my phone up. I prefer to keep my phone on my desk if I'm just checking to see if I have any notifications. No point in picking my phone up just for that, when I can turn the screen on for a few seconds via the home button without having to pick it up.You dont use raise to wake? Hitting home to check that stuff is pointless now. If you want to see the time, notifications, texts, raise to wake makes hitting home obsolete in general
Just read on Daring Fireball...
Home Button requires skin contact to activate.
I just tried it. T-shirt over button and it doesn't work. That means gloves won't work. I guess its good that the lift to see notification function exists, but we'll see in winter what other positive/negative things this introduces.
I also love the new home button. It's easier to press on the 7 Plus than 6s Plus and more consistent.
All in all, iOS 10 on the 7 feels like a different OS with the additional Taptic feedback. I love it!
Except you canSeems ridiculous that they're wasting their time changing the home button when you still can't attach files to reply emails
