They put up an unstoppable pop up with a scary warning, and old people in there 70’s don’t know better. So good for you but you are the minority
Falling for these scams involves believing someone purporting to be a business asking you to provide multiple gift card codes as “payment” for an amount likely in the thousands of dollars, having to go somewhere to buy multiple said gift cards (since none that I know of will let you load a single card with an amount as high as scammers often ask), actually buying them, paying for them, and providing them with the codes. If someone does all of that without a second thought, frankly, they deserve it. Bet they won’t fall for it a second time.

That is one of them, there are also the IRS. scams and others pretending to be law enforcement. When your in your 70’s think you’ll still be on top of your tech game.

Side loading will have little to nothing to do it’s this. Elderly are far more susceptible to email and text.

Sideloading is how, AFTER having contacted folks by email and text, the malicious actor would get the user to install the malicious code on the device. A user can’t install malicious code from outside the App Store unless sideloading is an option.

If this was true we would see rampant use of this on Android. I have been unable to find any recent numbers that even allude to this.
