I think the OP did the right thing. I doubt he'll do anything similar or show his face in the communal areas of the house more than necessary because he surely knows that he got a lucky break.

Of the few incidences of friends stealing from friends during my time at uni, the only 2 i remember are a girl who stole £1000s from her flatmates bank accounts and left uni in disgrace although I don't think the police became involved and a girl who was selling her flatmates' clothes on ebay, whose flatmates had to do exactly what the OP has chosen to do. Getting caught stealing from ppl you know or live with tends not to get you locked up but it does come with its own innate punishment of the social disgrace that goes along with it.

:eek:Well this sends the iphone back to ultimate numba 1 in this years MUST HAVE'S ..... Or musthavhis.

Its akward now the op has to continue living with the guy....But cant help feeling about how the blagger must be feelin.
Did he give a reason as to why he just had to hav your i.? Has he got previous? mybe he has compulsions...you know like ocd:(

I've had crap stolen from me at school before. The funny part was the pricks stole my Xbox...that had the red ring of death (I was waiting to go home to send it out for a repair). They also stole my roommates laptop...however, they did not take the charger...and the battery was in his drawer at the time.

I had my xbox serial flagged stolen with microsoft, and my roommates laptop was pretty old and fairly useless to anyone accept himself. Now if it was me...I would at least steal something I can make use of, which the pricks were unable to.

As a theft deterrent I picked up one of these:

...and I put some casters on the bottom of it. It looks like it means business, more so than those dinky footlockers, and its quite durable. Needless to say I have not had anything stolen since.

Am I the only one who is happy that the OP actually went and got his phone back instead of saying he knew the other guy had it but he wanted to wait for the police to help?

YAY FOR DOING THINGS OURSELVES. :)

Make some applescripts that shutdown his computer with a message that says "don't steal my phone again!" Replace the applescript icon with safari, itunes, ichat etc and replace them on his computer. That's always fun :)

This may have already been said, but I can't ready 100+ posts to find out.

To find out: waterboard!

My legal opinion is that it is not torture when and only if necessary to find an iPhone thief.

the guy locked himself in the room all day and all night after he got caught?

i bet he's planning on a revenge. i wouldn't eat that lunch he bought if i were you.

he's a threat to you now, eliminate it! over.
