Didn't have one on my iPad 1 it had three faint scratches after ten months use. And it lived in a good case.

iPad 2 has a screen protector on, I don't notice it.

The screen protector was royally pissing me off because the case kept making it bubble up around the edges and it was really hard to clean off. Today I had enough. I was trying to read on the train and couldn't even concentrate because I kept looking at that stupid screen protector. When I got to work, I took it off and threw it out.

I was having the same problem. Instead of taking off the screen protector, I removed the TPU case on the back, and installed a skin. It was from phantomskinz, matte (non glossy). I just got it on today, and will see how it'll work out. I like the near-naked feel (without a case) when holding it in my hands. But there's zero shock protection, which kind of worries me a bit...

For some reason, I'm just not worried about it on my iPad. I'm super super picky about my iPhone 4 for some reason, but on my iPad it just seems like it's worth it to go without the screen protector. The screen really seems to be fingerprint resistant and cleans off easily. And I don't have to look at any unsightly bubbles or lint trapped under the protector.

The informal poll I've been doing over the last day has come out WAY in favor of NOT putting on a screen protector. Most people I've asked have picked up no scratches, but have also claimed that they treat their iPad much more carefully than they would their iPhone or any other cell phone. If my iPad picks up a scratch somewhere, I will definitely be upset, but I think I'll get over it.

Tactility is extremely important for me with electronics, and screen protectors get in the way of that. Likewise, these colored plastic case thingies that people clip on their phones or Macbooks get in the way of it too. Of course without all this mumbo-jumbo, equipment is going to develop hairline scratches and wear over time but it's crazy to obsess over it. You're supposed to be using the gear, not ogling it like a masterpiece in an art museum.

I take appropriate precautions like using a laptop sleeve (Waterfield, as it's the only one that fits well enough to provide protection in a bag in which I'm carrying other stuff as well), but that's as far as I'll go.

Update on this:

When doing my daily wipedown of the screen last night with a microfiber cloth, I notice a tiny little mark on the top left corner that would not wipe off. It is definitely some sort of blemish on the glass, probably just in the coating.

I can't imagine this is from anything I did--my iPad has barely gotten any use yet and has mostly been in its case. This appears to be something that was probably there when I got it. It's not so much a scratch as it is just a little mark and is very hard to see except in the exact right light.

I will still go screen protector-less. I refuse to be OCD about my iPad. I have enough mental problems from my iPhone 4.

I went "nude" for a while before finding a scratch on my screen. No idea how it got there, and it really annoyed me. The smart cover was always covering the screen when not in use and in general the iPad has been treated quite carefully.

5 minutes after finding the scratch a screen protector had been ordered.

I've got an SGP crystal film on there now and it applied perfectly with no bubbles whatsoever.

It's just peace of mind tbh, and with higher quality films you hardly notice they are there.

Ok, here's the deal:

I'm pretty anal.

Well, we all have our preferences.

All I can suggest is to always maintain a good hygiene regime, and always use plenty of lube, taking things nice and slow and never forcing anything, just give it time and things will stretch to accommodate.

It's good that you are able to talk about this openly, that is a healthy attitude.

I'm starting to worry about picking up scratches again. But I want to get a screen protector that will not peel up on the edges with my back protector on. I was thinking about finding a cheap protector somewhere and trimming the sides, top, and bottom off so that I can apply it without taking off my back case. If I do it just right, I can have my cake and eat it too--there will be screen protection, it won't look 100% like garbage, and I don't have to mess with the back at all.

Any opinions?

I have a screen protector. It's the anti-fingerprint and anti-glare kind. Works like a champ. That's why I have a screen protector.

+1
