Compared to my 7.1 mac pro. My 16 /5600m, my m1 mini connected to lg5k the 13inch m1 air is just meh.... the screen is terrible. Is it not bright enough? What's with the large bezel? New design please.

I needed a laptop that can handle being on battery for a 10 hour shoot. For email etc... so I don't have to be tied to a plug. But this thing is garbage.

Can't wait for the new 2022 air.

Well, I love my “garbage”, screen is great and battery lasts 18+ hrs… but you’re entitled to your opinion.

Why did they have that huge bezel? And why the dim screen? The air is still expensive if you get more ram and storage. It's not cheap.

It's like a great cpu in a old pc laptop.

Have to ask... do you know how to adjust screen brightness and/or background picture in system preferences? We just bought 6 of them and the screens are great. If you really have a problem take it to the Apple store and have them check it out.

They reused the chassis design from the past several years, so idk why you're expecting it to be different? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Love the tapered design myself and will be sad to see it go. I agree the bezels are a bit big, but it's not distracting. The screen brightness is a little low, but since I use my laptop inside all the time, I have no issues with it. Battery life is great on my end. You may be using certain apps that drain battery like Zoom and other apps that are using Rosetta 2.

What I don't understand is why you bought the 2020 M1 Macbook Air knowing that it has the exact same design? Why not hold off until the redesign that is supposedly coming next year? Don't be surprised if comes with a price bump too.

If Apple silicon MacBook is garbage, nothing else is not, including all iPhone and iPads.
Just because they have big bezel doesn’t automatically make them garbage or unusable. Yes, higher storage tier is expensive, but it’s Apple we are talking about.

I love both my M1 Air's! They're great computers, and I don't really care that much about a design update, I still think the Air (and the rest of the Macbooks) look great.

Also the build quality is stellar, I can't think of any other laptop (especially at the price point of an Air) that comes even close.

Large bezels, yes. But I'm not really looking at them. Sure, I wouldn't mind smaller bezels, but it's not by far a deal breaker.

Battery life is great. Sure, I won't get 18 hours doing my normal things, but perhaps 12. It's way way better than the Macbook Pro 15" 2017 it replaced.

I mostly like mine but I do have some mixed feelings. I wish it had the battery of the Macbook Pro. I honestly would have gotten the Pro if it weren't for the Touchbar. I have always hated that thing. If I could fix two things on the Air it would be to increase the brightness and the battery. I do LOVE not hearing a fan.

And why the dim screen?
Are you using it outside in the sun? Inside my M1 MacBook Air is so bright at max brightness that I can't look at it for long. I'd imagine outdoors you might want the M1 MacBook Pro with the extra 100 nits of brightness.

I needed a mac laptop off battery that would last 8 hours for a shoot. I bought it just for the day. And now have it at home.

I just want a newer air. With better screen. Isn't this what this place is about? Complaining about the macs?
Of course there's nothing wrong with wanting more. People here are absolutely clamoring for the new MBPs lol. Your post just comes off like you were expecting the current MBA to be more than it is when it's very clear what it is: the exact same product it's been for the last few years except with the M1 chip in it and sans a fan. Most people seem to agree that it's the best value for price in the Macbook lineup, and I agree, but it's an entry level laptop and isn't gonna work for literally every use case. And we know the redesign is coming next year.

I see. Well, the battery life claims for the M1 Macbooks is always exaggerated. Like, sure, maybe you can get 18 hours if you're reading a blog site on the lowest brightness, but in practice it's more like 10-14 hrs. If you're constantly doing intensive tasks like photo and video editing, especially on rosetta software, it will naturally be even less... In that case, a M1 MBP might've been better choice. The M1 MBA is still very impressive compared to the intel MBAs.

The M1 MacBook Air is exactly what many were looking for. A portable powerhouse that is really efficient and doesn't cost a fortune. It blows away anything around its price point. I paid $1079 with a student discount for a 16GB of RAM base M1 MacBook Air...what else for less than $1500 is a better bang for buck? It's incredible fast, efficient, portable, well built, and priced well. I'm confused on why you're ranting when you knew ahead of time what the M1 Air was about.

Lol he’s just making a discussion about shortcomings of the computer. Leave it to the Apple forum to shut down any discussion about Apple hardware.
Okay let’s have the discussion. One of three things happened here:

1. OP bought a computer knowing exactly what it was, same screen, big bezels and all, because that information is very much available prior to purchasing, but is complaining about it anyways, presumably for attention because why else would someone embarrass themselves like that?

2. OP lives in a bunker with no access to the outside world and has never seen any version of the MacBook Air but somehow purchased one blindly, and is now disappointed with it.

3. OP doesn’t own a MacBook Air at all, and is just a troll.

You guys are such fanboys. Lol. I had this air for 3 days. I've been reading here how great it is. It's better than the 16. Etc... it can replace your desktop.

I had an old air 2015 as well. I liked that one. But it was not touted by every fanboy to be this messiah laptop.

The battery did last longer than 8 hours just with light use. So that is very good. It serves It's job.
