Anyone on this threadhave the light bleeding or any defects? If so are you happy with them

False. People love Apple hardware because of the simplicity, like fine art.

I've had all of the devices you're listing. The Prime doesn't deserve to bo on that level for many, many reasons (no working GPS, weak wifi, poor sound, ect..). The note is an ok device, but android is lacking.

I highly disagree that apple is not the very most high-end tablet. Even android fanatics will say it is. Price being the driving factor here.

Apple products are far from high-end or innovative. My Win 7 64-bit custom PC runs circles around Macs. Apple has seldom held top spot on specs for long, they were just innovative with the ipod, iphone, and ipad. Heck, Android had LTE over a year ago.

Apple is renowned for its simplicity and that is why the majority of normal people that are not whining about light-bleed or yellow tint are buying the product. Unlike the 50 or so complaining on here, they have a life, so they're not going to waste their time and money on this idiocy.

PS The original ipad was actually my first apple product, so I'm definitely no fanboy.

I totally agree with this comment. But at the same time, there are times where you don't have to look for problems...they are just that clear.

Ignorance is bliss I guess.

If you are not happy return the thing. I went through 6 iPad 2's. The bleeding was noticable at any level of brightness. The 6th only bleeds at full brightness and that's ok with me.

I had light bleed issues with my first iPad 2 and got it replaced. My iPad (3rd gen) has a flawless screen. It's the first thing I checked. I literally can't see any bleeding at all. If I turn my iPad on its side and look between the glass and the screen at the top in a dark room I can barely see a white light but it doesn't bleed on to the display.

You mean like increasing the brightness to 100%, going into a dark room, loading up a black image, and holding the device on an angle that absolutely nobody will ever hold it at.

Hey, who doesn't sit there and stare at blank images right...

Did you just say this in the same post? Lol.

It's clear you're not an apple fanboy, I agree. But dude come on, there will always be a better computer with better specs. That's not the point of this thread. It's defects that people should live with, or not.

They are innovative in the form factor but apple is certainly not some hardcore tech company. After all, it's not apple designing all of the chipsets they are using. Heck, even their original coding was scrapped for an Apple flavor of Unix.

My point is that if you look hard enough, you will always find something wrong. Like I said about my iphone 4, until I looked at this today, under the ridiculous conditions mentioned earlier, I never notice the visible light bleed.

People need to relax and enjoy their product, than stressing out about something miniscule. If we are going to devote time to bashing something, at least focus on bashing cell carriers, who are deliberately and systematically shafting us.

No, like watching a movie in a dark room (you know most movies nowadays have borders on top and on bottom, right?) and seeing light bleed above and/or below your picture.

It doesn't have to be 100% brightness, though if you want to set it there then that's ok as well. User preference. Let's not get ridiculous with the types of problems that can be seen. We all know people don't stare at blank, black screens. But a test like that can be good if you watch movies in a dark room.

Well, you may be seeing a bit of it because the screen is higher than 1080P res, so there will be black lines. However, with typical usage, I guarantee you that most people would not even notice the light - even if it was significant.

After all this is not the Mona Lisa, in 12 months many on here will have a new iPad. If Apple goes AMOLED, problem solved. However, I am sure something new will pop up for people to complain about.

I've used a lot of products over the years and Apple products have the fewest amount of defects. In fact, it's the #1 reason I like their products. Waiting months for the next update to fix x or being forced to implement 101 patches just to get a feature going correctly got old.

After the crap I have been though over 15 years of tech, light bleed and yellow tints are a joke.

If you watch movies in the dark you're just looking for trouble.

And I absolutely agree with this post. This is totally true. The problem with this forum is that people are overly OCD and that's causing people to become bitter at them. Then when a post like this, or other "terrible light bleed" threads pop up people bash them for being too OCD. I know most LCD's have light bleed but honestly dude most people who post up have devices with a light bleed defect.

This is not a defect

And most of what I've seen is Photo #2. People with photo #1 are the ones saying that light bleed is not an issue and that they have it too.

I'm on my 4th iPad3..

All have screen defects. First was horribly yellow, the last 3 have dead pixels.

Fun. Probably have to call it a wrap and return my last one and wait for the bad batches to sell out and then try again in a month or two.

I suggest a solution for you.

Buy 10 of these ($50 each, cheaper in bulk):

Throw away any that don't meet your requirements of perfection. Keep the remainder. Call it a day.

Someone like you will be happier in the long run.

Solid advice. I'd recommend making this a sticky and updating the Buyer's Guide.

There is nothing wrong with wanting a product with no defects. If it doesn't meet your expectations then return it,that is your right.

I totally agree with you elmz you pay alot of money why settle for defects. I had light bleed on my first one got a replacement the one i just got has the same thing so now apple is sending me a replacement through the mail hope all is good

If you buy a brand new $200,000 Ferrari (car equivalent to iPads being expensive over competition) that has a single 10-inch scratch on it, maybe not too deep, maybe under the rear bumper where it's not visible unless you look for it, maybe inside on the leather seat right where you sit down and cover it up... You know it's not supposed to be there, you know it doesn't effect your driving it. Do you keep it just the way it is because you'll never get in an accident because of it? Of course not. You get it fixed/replaced/price marked down/ect because its a defect. You don't settle for something like that.

In my experience, people who buy luxury cars don't act they never owned one before.

As I mentioned earlier, the iPad is made to certain manufacturing tolerances. It appears those tolerances are too lax for your standards. Given that, you have two alternatives:
  1. Return it for a refund (NOT exchange).
  2. Live with it.
Option 3 of swapping iPad after iPad looking for one within your specs is not a realistic alternative, nor is it fair to the company.

I think he'll find one. I have no desire to rip off a company but since when is returning a product that is faulty not fair to the company selling it. I feel like this site is in bizarro world sometimes.
