Do you think they'd replace this? I dropped it on it's back to carpet 2 feet below and it appeared. No texture impact, it seems to be under the glass.

It will be up to the Apple store. Since it is accidental damage, they don't have to replace it for free. If they charge you $250, it's still cheaper than buying a new one though the replacement may be a refurb or new.

I dropped mine from ear height onto asphalt.

It had a case but where it hit was not protected (upper right corner.

The screen and the whole unit still function flawlessly with no screen cracks of any kind.

I think you just caught a bad break (no pun intended) with how it landed.

half you guys who replied did not read my last post....

Apple replaced it for free!!!! no questions, just went in and said look at my phone, he said no signs of impact, its covered. Handed me a new phone!!!!!

So, it's Apple's opinion that screens crack spontaneously for no reason at all?

The iPhone is designed to withstand impacts from a certain height. However, if there's a flaw with the screen it's going to crack when dropped from a height it's designed to withstand, hence defective in Apple's opinion.

I'm thinking you can't convince me you dropped it from 3 feet or 6 feet by handing it to me. Either way it can still be filed under the abuse clause of the warranty. If people are being rejected for corner dents in the metal I don't think you can convince me they think the metal is less strong than the glass.

I'm not saying it makes sense. Apple can use whatever criteria they want. Their justification appears to be if there's no visual impact on the outside of the phone, you didn't drop it high enough so if the screen cracks it must be defective.

I really hate dealing with Apple geniuses. This guy gets a replaced phone free because it didn't have a dent from the fall it took. I've got a slight dent in the back of mine and they won't hardly help me at all anymore when I have problems. I've been in tons of times telling them that my signal strength is weak and I'm sick of the dropped calls. Each time all I get is "well, AT&T coverage does that sometimes". I guarantee if I crack my screen, they'll point to that dent in the back and say "250 bucks please".

Grrr. I work for AT&T. Insult my company and perhaps I'll start insulting yours.

cracked screen

You are more likely to get free service or a free phone/iPod touch, if you go into the store instead of calling apple. Too many potential customers could be easily put off of their products if even one returning customer was unsatisfied. They would lose the money from those potential consumers. Would you buy something knowing that somewhere down the line you would be spending half of that to replace the part that is the easiest to break? If they don't give in, raise your voice and eventually you will get the service that should have been covered in the warranty to begin with.
