There's no reason to endanger anyone, even if it's only the slightest chance.

Just being out on the road endangers others, by the "slightest chance". There is no situation with zero risk. For example, there's a turn in the road, on a busy street near my home. I've watched so many cars fail to stay in their lane when going through that curve. So, being in the next lane, and completely following the traffic rules, is not sufficient. To reduce risk of an accident, I have to ensure that I'm never adjacent to another vehicle at that point. But, I can't stop someone from being next to me, I can just try to avoid it.

Ok, I'm rambling. The point being, there's no line with risk on one side, and no risk on the other.

So its safe to drive at excessive speeds on country roads......

I know it does not mention excessive speeds, but something must have happened for the cars to collide head-on.

I really hope those who read this story and think of those kids left without parents have a second thought about driving excessively.

Please

i forget that the people here on macrumors have done nothing questionable in their lives...

Yes I have done plenty of things that I class as questionable, the one thing I would not do is put other peoples lives at risk just to get a few kicks, especially when there are perfectly legal and safe alternatives, i.e. track days.

That's crap. Talk about fear-mongering. It must have been speed related because........you want it to be, as it would serve to prove your point?

Maybe it is fear-mongering, but you have to ask how two cars collide head-on on a country road?

And maybe it is more of a general point, people have been killed in a car crash and excessive speed is associated with a large percentage of deaths, especially on country roads, around 30% from that latest figures. So hopefully this will make people think.

If it makes you feel any better, I got a speeding ticket for going 40mph in a 55mph zone... Actually it was for going faster then conditions permitted and crashing, but I plan on fighting it.

The police are there to ensure the laws of the land are abided by. You're facing a ticket for doing that? Umm...interesting.

Everybody knows you don't speed on the country roads, you do it on the highways at 3 am where there is nobody in sight.

I wonder how many of these people against speeders don't mind when a cop does it for no reason other then that he can. Or the cops that will flash the lights just to go through a stop light.

first off when i say country i mean county highways in the middle of no where with 2 lanes late at night. not the gravel roads with only one lane... i never drive my car on gravel unless i have to
also these roads are FLAT and STRAIGHT so I can see cars coming well before

Granted I dont do this all the time, in fact its pretty rare when i do it

i dont get this whole peoples lives at risk thing. EVERY TIME YOU DRIVE you put your life and others in risk. Id say its alot more dangerous say driving on I-25 to denver at 65mph with a gazillion cars around than going 100mph with NO ONE around (no houses no cars no nothing)

in fact id be willing to bet its safer when i speed and am paying full attention to my car with NO ONE around than some idiot who texts/does makeup/talk on phone/whatever while going the speed limit but having a ton of people around. not trying to condone my actions but stating what i am certian is a fact

so are you saying you have never ever sped even if you didnt mean to?
