I have two intel macs, one is a 2008 macbook and a late 2009 mac mini both of which i have purchased here in MR market place.

I have the macbook for work to run windows software on parallels.

I have the mac mini as my media center. And probably just to function to try out mountain lion when it comes out.

But work duties, I got my powerpc macs to do that.

I am once a developer of software for computers to run factories and automated machines. And I believe in KISS. "Keep it simple and s2pid".

Most of the modern softwares being released are full of iCandy/eye candy which doesn't add up to the value of the function.

If I will be staying with powerpc macs? Sure, I will be.

I really wish I could do the same, but since my word processing career didn't take off and I somehow ended up in the world of 3D rendering I can't stick to the hardware I really love.:apple: :-(

One of the reasons I decided not to pursue a career using computers, the rat race for current technology is just not my cup of tea. When I find something I really love, I tend to stick with it until I can no longer. In this case, that would be PPC tech with OS X 10.4, and I most likely wouldn't be able to use this setup in such a field.

Yes there are still those people out there. I just don't have the time, but if I have the luxury of the time I would definitely participate.

Aren't there such people out there now?

Here's one group doing something to preserve apps for the PowerPC platform, even though Mozilla is leaving us in the lurch.

I've tried it, it's an improvement in certain areas, but it's a work in progress and needs a few more tweaks.

I'm sticking with both. My early 2009 MacBook as my main machine, but I still use my 1.42 GHz eMac for any applications that do not work on Intel Macs, and my PowerMac G4 QuickSilver for running any "classic" programs from when I was younger. Eventually when my eMac's time comes, I may replace it with a 21-inch iMac, but if the QuickSilver conks out, I'll probably find one of the best newer MDD models as a replacement.

And your point is… (other than being smug)

Welcome to MacRumors forums, where smugness doth abound.....actually smugness is about the least of it. Somedays the blood can really fly in here. Speaking of which, has zen.state fallen off the face of the earth or what?

Speaking for members of the board ( if I may be so bold) zen.state is pretty much unknown to most of the members.

zen.state has been feuding with axd264 (not sure about that person's name, but whose avatar is the G4 logo). zen is currently in time-out for some remarks he made. I hope he can stop fighting for his knowledge of PowerPC Macs is one of the vastest on the forums.

zen.state is well know to most older member of the PowerPC forums. He rarely ventures outside of it anymore.

I use my copy of panther to keep old imac g3s alive and kicking with todays intel macs. by installing onto systems free of charge although I do accept tips

I am :). To me, the G3 iMacs and iBooks (The clamshells) have the nicest-looking cases I've seen. I'm glad that they're old. That means I can find them for $50 and use them for whatever I want, which really doesn't require very high specs. True, it's an unsupported OS now, and most modern developers ignore it, but it's not like using something like, say, SyllableOS or something. Developers made that a major platform for at least one point or another. So abandonware and open-source have been very useful. There's word processors, video applications, browsers, even webcam things that work great on it, whether it's outdated or not. And for me, that's fine. It's an old system, but it's a complete one, even by today's standards.

I make / mark on it with a pen every time I install it. I just counted 72 imacs that I put back in service with this software. I also whenever I can find an old pc for like $10 at a yard sale or something. Destroy The pc in some cool and unusual way. The less competition for the low end computer market the better.

zen.state is very knowledgable and helpful for new PowerPC users, as well as Intell. Both of them have helped me a lot in my experiments with G4 and G5 machines.

Though zen can be arrogant sometimes, he only gets that way when people are being ridiculous, or are redundant. Not all too much to tolerate for such a helpful contributor....

and I can respect that he gets mad when people are being idiots and asking if they can put a Power processor in a g5 motherbord for christs sake

He maybe blunt sometimes. I put it this way, he is just direct. But he is very much helpful.

Going back to topic.

PowerPC macs exudes certain character making it unique and above from other personal computers. Though they maybe old and slow compared to new macs but they can still be very useful.

Oh, I'm sorry! I really didn't mean to sound smug or something like that. Tenfourfox is mentioned in every other thread in this section, it's really really common. I added the smiley to clarify that I wasn't being serious.

That's character. Good to see that even though you didn't have rude intent, you've apologized. There's hope in this PowerPC forum, har har :D

Yep - Although I have an i7 MacBook Pro I hate using laptops so that's a work day machine in the office, the PM is my main/most used machine at home for everything from Photo management (iPhoto), music (iTunes and Spotify) to games (Quake 3&4, CoD, CivIV, Homeworld2, Amnesia, UT2004 etc), Skype video calls home (live abroad) etc etc. I love it. My PM ain't going anywhere ;)

Thanks for the clarification. It was more of a reaction to a previously ignored thread I'd started asking for asking for advice on an Imac failure to boot issue. The thread got no/little action or advice, but yet when I offered a bit of unsolicited, even if warmed over, knowledge on another thread I got what appeared to be, at first blush, an "your out of your league" response withing 10 minutes.

In this case it's probably me being too sensitive. I participate on quite a few boards which operate in the political/social arena and expect to get bitch-slapped with regularity on those — perhaps that made my retort a little too reflexive.

Old macs are great for retro gaming
