My iPad mini 2 has a cracked screen, and a broken home button(I had to set up a virtual home button)...and I still use it a lot! I love that thing. It’s the perfect size iPad to travel with. My 9.7” is going to my bro, and I am waiting for my 11” iPad Pro to arrive. If Apple had released a new iPad mini with pencil support, I might have gone with the 12.9” iPad Pro for art at home and a new iPad mini for when mobile...but I couldn’t wait any longer. Sometimes ya just gotta take the plunge.

Having said that, Ming Chi Kuo does say a new mini is coming. I will definitely be interested to see what they do with it. Will it finally get Pencil support? Will Apple redesign the next 9.7” and iPad mini with flat edges & slimmer bezels like the new iPad Pro design so they can use the new Apple Pencil? But without pro motion? I would assume that if a new mini is coming, it will be updated alongside the 9.7” iPad in March. But who knows.

Thinking about getting the 2018 iPad! It has an A10 and only 2GB RAM and 128GB storage. Should I keep waiting for Mini 5 like it “Waiting for Godot”?

Decide to give Apple till the end of March 2019 to release a new redesign iPad Mini!
Make sure you set that as a hard-n-fast deadline, otherwise when there is no updated Mini in March 2019, there will be rumors of an announcement at WWDC in June... and then because you've waited THAT long you might as well wait 2+ more months. :) ...and when it doesn't happen then, October is "only" 4 months way.

When the 2018 iPad was announced this past March, I knew that there would be no Mini released this year, and am pretty confident that there will be no updated Mini forthcoming in 2019. I don't say that with any glee since I most definitely was looking for an updated Mini with Pencil support.

That is why I upgraded from my 1st gen 12.9 Pro to the 2018 iPad (128GB). It has been my "workhorse" tablet and used with the Pencil far more that I used the Pencil on the 12.9 Pro. My Mini 4 is on my side table in the living room and gets used nightly for reading and casual gaming... reminding me that I'd still like an updated model. :)

Well, I caved in and purchase a brand new Mini 4 but to save money; with no LTE! I like it! It same color space gray and is seems a little thinner; has a nicer home button and seems a little lighter in weight too. So I am now hoping for a no update on the Mini since my new Mini purchase! LOL!:)

Enjoy! There were some very good sales going on right now and if one NEEDS the smaller form-factor then now would be the time to buy one.

Thank you for buying the Mini 4... thereby guaranteeing an updated model in 2019. Thanks for taking one for the team! :D

I still use mine quite often and love it.

Yeah okay, with that logic, th MacBook Pro isn’t really a pro, it’s just a macbook with a gimmick.

Correct. It is just a name and that thing was called the PowerBook before. Not that it had that much power, but it was a funky name back then. Simple marketing.

Never know, Apple could skip the updating of the Mini for 2019 and/or discontinue it in the North America marketplace but offer it for sale elsewhere in other countries like India and China.

I have both the Mini 4 and the Pro but I find that I reach for the Mini and hardly ever use the Pro.
Is it still that way(see above) or have you moved on to something else as you main content device maybe an iPhone X’s Max or a bigger iPad now?

Apple just has no love for the iPad Mini it seems! Not been updated really since 2014! Has the A8 inside from Mini 3. Mini 4, Apple double the RAM to 2GB but still keep the A8, It is going on 2019 and still no new Mini!
Not true. The mini 3 has the A7 that was carried over from the mini 2. The mini 4 has the A8, which was only introduced with the mini 4, which was introduced in 2015, not 2014.

And 3 years later. Hmm.

But the spec differences between a 2015 iPad Mini 4 and iPad Pro are simply not as Pro/non-Pro as the differences between a MacBook or Air and the MacBook Pro.

It is real how the Apple iOS runs on the iPhone, iPods and iPads. Apple can make older machine last for a long time as shown in iOS 12! I think that Apple was force to show it’s “goodwill” to worldwide governments to improve the speed of their devices and make them run efficiently for Apple’s customers!

You be amazed at how many people get sucked into the naming. Just Last week there was someone on here convinced the 2018 iPad wasn’t for him because apple marketed it as the educational iPad, therefore it wasn’t meant for the average consumer lol.

That how marketing works! Selling to the educational marketplace means that it is low budget and cheaply made not that the 2018 iPad is either of this.

Yup, don’t think it was the right thing to market it is because this is far from a budget tablet, it’s the cheapest iPad they’ve made but it’s far from being cheaply made. Curious how it did in sales compared to the 2017 model

I think the 8" form factor is perfect for media consumption like magazines and news. I really wanted an updated Mini as I am loath to buy old tech, but I gave up waiting.

In its place, I got a Huawei MediaPad M5 8.4" with LTE. I don't like the aspect ratio as much as the mini, but its fast, light and pretty smooth with Oreo. Would have rather had an updated Mini, but so far I'm pretty happy with it.
